Stanza 8.61.1

उ॒भयं॑ शृ॒णव॑च्च न॒ इन्द्रो॑ अ॒र्वागि॒दं वचः॑ | स॒त्राच्या॑ म॒घवा॒ सोम॑पीतये धि॒या शवि॑ष्ठ॒ आ ग॑मत् ||

ubháyaṁ śr̥ṇávac ca na índro arvā́g idáṁ vácaḥ satrā́cyā maghávā sómapītaye dhiyā́ śáviṣṭha ā́ gamat

May Indra, who is powerful and generous, hear both of these prayers from us. May he, with his might and wisdom, come near to drink the Soma juice.

Stanza 8.61.2

तं हि स्व॒राजं॑ वृष॒भं तमोज॑से धि॒षणे॑ निष्टत॒क्षतुः॑ | उ॒तोप॒मानां॑ प्रथ॒मो नि षी॑दसि॒ सोम॑कामं॒ हि ते॒ मनः॑ ||

táṁ hí svarā́jaṁ vr̥ṣabháṁ tám ójase dhiṣáṇe niṣṭatakṣátuḥ utópamā́nām prathamó ní ṣīdasi sómakāmaṁ hí te mánaḥ

For him, the self-ruling, strong Bull, Heaven and Earth fashioned for might. You sit as the first among equals, for your mind desires Soma.

Stanza 8.61.3

आ वृ॑षस्व पुरूवसो सु॒तस्ये॒न्द्रान्ध॑सः | वि॒द्मा हि त्वा॑ हरिवः पृ॒त्सु सा॑स॒हिमधृ॑ष्टं चिद्दधृ॒ष्वणि॑म् ||

ā́ vr̥ṣasva purūvaso sutásyendrā́ndhasaḥ vidmā́ hí tvā harivaḥ pr̥tsú sāsahím ádhr̥ṣṭaṁ cid dadhr̥ṣváṇim

Be invigorated, O Indra, rich in many things, by the pressed Soma juice! We know you, O Indra with bay steeds, as the victorious one in battles, the one who conquers even the unconquerable.

Stanza 8.61.4

अप्रा॑मिसत्य मघव॒न्तथेद॑स॒दिन्द्र॒ क्रत्वा॒ यथा॒ वशः॑ | स॒नेम॒ वाजं॒ तव॑ शिप्रि॒न्नव॑सा म॒क्षू चि॒द्यन्तो॑ अद्रिवः ||

áprāmisatya maghavan táthéd asad índra krátvā yáthā váśaḥ sanéma vā́jaṁ táva śiprinn ávasā makṣū́ cid yánto adrivaḥ

May it be thus, O truthful Maghavan, O Indra, according to your will and power. May we, O Indra with radiant appearance, gain wealth with your help, O thunderer, swiftly seeking it.

Stanza 8.61.5

श॒ग्ध्यू॒३॒॑ षु श॑चीपत॒ इन्द्र॒ विश्वा॑भिरू॒तिभिः॑ | भगं॒ न हि त्वा॑ य॒शसं॑ वसु॒विद॒मनु॑ शूर॒ चरा॑मसि ||

śagdhy ūā̀ ṣú śacīpata índra víśvābhir ūtíbhiḥ bhágaṁ ná hí tvā yaśásaṁ vasuvídam ánu śūra cárāmasi

O Indra, Lord of Power, help us with all your protections! Indeed, O Hero, we follow you like a glorious and wealth-finding (entity).

Stanza 8.61.6

पौ॒रो अश्व॑स्य पुरु॒कृद्गवा॑म॒स्युत्सो॑ देव हिर॒ण्ययः॑ | नकि॒र्हि दानं॑ परि॒मर्धि॑ष॒त्त्वे यद्य॒द्यामि॒ तदा भ॑र ||

pauró áśvasya purukŕ̥d gávām asy útso deva hiraṇyáyaḥ nákir hí dā́nam parimárdhiṣat tvé yád-yad yā́mi tád ā́ bhara

You are the increaser of horses, O God, and of cattle, a golden wellspring. Indeed, no one can impair your gifts. Bring us whatever we ask for.

Stanza 8.61.7

त्वं ह्येहि॒ चेर॑वे वि॒दा भगं॒ वसु॑त्तये | उद्वा॑वृषस्व मघव॒न्गवि॑ष्टय॒ उदि॒न्द्राश्व॑मिष्टये ||

tváṁ hy éhi cérave vidā́ bhágaṁ vásuttaye úd vāvr̥ṣasva maghavan gáviṣṭaya úd indrā́śvamiṣṭaye

You, O Indra, indeed come for the worshipper! Find fortune for us to become wealthy. Be invigorated, O Maghavan, for acquiring cattle, and O Indra, for acquiring horses.

Stanza 8.61.8

त्वं पु॒रू स॒हस्रा॑णि श॒तानि॑ च यू॒था दा॒नाय॑ मंहसे | आ पु॑रंद॒रं च॑कृम॒ विप्र॑वचस॒ इन्द्रं॒ गाय॒न्तोऽव॑से ||

tvám purū́ sahásrāṇi śatā́ni ca yūthā́ dānā́ya maṁhase ā́ puraṁdaráṁ cakr̥ma vípravacasa índraṁ gā́yantó 'vase

You bestow many thousands and hundreds of herds as gifts, O generous one. We have brought forth the destroyer of forts, Indra, through the chants of the wise, for protection.

Stanza 8.61.9

अ॒वि॒प्रो वा॒ यदवि॑ध॒द्विप्रो॑ वेन्द्र ते॒ वचः॑ | स प्र म॑मन्दत्त्वा॒या श॑तक्रतो॒ प्राचा॑मन्यो॒ अहं॑सन ||

avipró vā yád ávidhad vípro vendra te vácaḥ sá prá mamandat tvāyā́ śatakrato prā́cāmanyo áhaṁsana

Whether a simple one or a wise one, O Indra, approaches you with this word, he indeed pleases you. O Satakratu, O ambitious one, O Ahamsana, we seek your favor.

Stanza 8.61.10

उ॒ग्रबा॑हुर्म्रक्ष॒कृत्वा॑ पुरंद॒रो यदि॑ मे शृ॒णव॒द्धव॑म् | व॒सू॒यवो॒ वसु॑पतिं श॒तक्र॑तुं॒ स्तोमै॒रिन्द्रं॑ हवामहे ||

ugrábāhur mrakṣakŕ̥tvā puraṁdaró yádi me śr̥ṇávad dhávam vasūyávo vásupatiṁ śatákratuṁ stómair índraṁ havāmahe

If the strong-armed, fort-destroying, great vanquisher hears our call, we who seek wealth call to Indra, the lord of wealth, the Satakratu, with praises.

Stanza 8.61.11

न पा॒पासो॑ मनामहे॒ नारा॑यासो॒ न जळ्ह॑वः | यदिन्न्विन्द्रं॒ वृष॑णं॒ सचा॑ सु॒ते सखा॑यं कृ॒णवा॑महै ||

ná pāpā́so manāmahe nā́rāyāso ná jáḷhavaḥ yád ín nv índraṁ vŕ̥ṣaṇaṁ sácā suté sákhāyaṁ kr̥ṇávāmahai

We do not consider ourselves sinners, nor miserly, nor foolish, if indeed, O Indra, we make you our friend with the Soma juice we have prepared.

Stanza 8.61.12

उ॒ग्रं यु॑युज्म॒ पृत॑नासु सास॒हिमृ॒णका॑ति॒मदा॑भ्यम् | वेदा॑ भृ॒मं चि॒त्सनि॑ता र॒थीत॑मो वा॒जिनं॒ यमिदू॒ नश॑त् ||

ugráṁ yuyujma pŕ̥tanāsu sāsahím r̥ṇákātim ádābhyam védā bhr̥máṁ cit sánitā rathī́tamo vājínaṁ yám íd ū náśat

We have enlisted the strong, battle-conquering, debt-claiming, unassailable Indra. The best charioteer, the victor, knows whom he will associate with.

Stanza 8.61.13

यत॑ इन्द्र॒ भया॑महे॒ ततो॑ नो॒ अभ॑यं कृधि | मघ॑वञ्छ॒ग्धि तव॒ तन्न॑ ऊ॒तिभि॒र्वि द्विषो॒ वि मृधो॑ जहि ||

yáta indra bháyāmahe táto no ábhayaṁ kr̥dhi mághavañ chagdhí táva tán na ūtíbhir ví dvíṣo ví mŕ̥dho jahi

From whatever we fear, O Indra, make us fearless from that. Help us, O Maghavan, grant us your protection: drive away enemies and adversaries.

Stanza 8.61.14

त्वं हि रा॑धस्पते॒ राध॑सो म॒हः क्षय॒स्यासि॑ विध॒तः | तं त्वा॑ व॒यं म॑घवन्निन्द्र गिर्वणः सु॒ताव॑न्तो हवामहे ||

tváṁ hí rādhaspate rā́dhaso maháḥ kṣáyasyā́si vidhatáḥ táṁ tvā vayám maghavann indra girvaṇaḥ sutā́vanto havāmahe

Indeed, you, O Lord of bounty, are the establisher of great wealth. Therefore, O Maghavan, O Indra, O lover of songs, we who have prepared Soma call upon you.

Stanza 8.61.15

इन्द्रः॒ स्पळु॒त वृ॑त्र॒हा प॑र॒स्पा नो॒ वरे॑ण्यः | स नो॑ रक्षिषच्चर॒मं स म॑ध्य॒मं स प॒श्चात्पा॑तु नः पु॒रः ||

índra spáḷ utá vr̥trahā́ paraspā́ no váreṇyaḥ sá no rakṣiṣac caramáṁ sá madhyamáṁ sá paścā́t pātu naḥ puráḥ

Indra is the slayer of Vritra, the protector, our best defender against the foe. May he protect us from behind, below, above, and in front; may he protect us from divine danger and unholy weapons.

Stanza 8.61.16

त्वं नः॑ प॒श्चाद॑ध॒रादु॑त्त॒रात्पु॒र इन्द्र॒ नि पा॑हि वि॒श्वतः॑ | आ॒रे अ॒स्मत्कृ॑णुहि॒ दैव्यं॑ भ॒यमा॒रे हे॒तीरदे॑वीः ||

tváṁ naḥ paścā́d adharā́d uttarā́t purá índra ní pāhi viśvátaḥ āré asmát kr̥ṇuhi daívyam bhayám āré hetī́r ádevīḥ

You, O Indra, protect us from behind, from below, from above, from the front, from all sides. Keep divine fear far from us, keep unholy weapons far away.

Stanza 8.61.17

अ॒द्याद्या॒ श्वःश्व॒ इन्द्र॒ त्रास्व॑ प॒रे च॑ नः | विश्वा॑ च नो जरि॒तॄन्त्स॑त्पते॒ अहा॒ दिवा॒ नक्तं॑ च रक्षिषः ||

adyā́dyā śváḥ śva índra trā́sva paré ca naḥ víśvā ca no jaritr̥ŕ̥n satpate áhā dívā náktaṁ ca rakṣiṣaḥ

Protect us today, tomorrow, and each following day, O Indra! O Lord of the brave, protect us and all our singers, by day and by night.

Stanza 8.61.18

प्र॒भ॒ङ्गी शूरो॑ म॒घवा॑ तु॒वीम॑घः॒ सम्मि॑श्लो वि॒र्या॑य॒ कम् | उ॒भा ते॑ बा॒हू वृष॑णा शतक्रतो॒ नि या वज्रं॑ मिमि॒क्षतुः॑ ||

prabhaṅgī́ śū́ro maghávā tuvī́maghaḥ sámmiślo viryāā̀ya kám ubhā́ te bāhū́ vŕ̥ṣaṇā śatakrato ní yā́ vájram mimikṣátuḥ

The crushing warrior, Maghavan, rich in might, is endowed with heroic power. Both your arms, O Satakratu, are strong, arms that have wielded the thunderbolt.
