Stanza 3.2.1

वै॒श्वा॒न॒राय॑ धि॒षणा॑मृता॒वृधे॑ घृ॒तं न पू॒तम॒ग्नये॑ जनामसि | द्वि॒ता होता॑रं॒ मनु॑षश्च वा॒घतो॑ धि॒या रथं॒ न कुलि॑शः॒ समृ॑ण्वति ||

vaiśvānarā́ya dhiṣáṇām r̥tāvŕ̥dhe ghr̥táṁ ná pūtám agnáye janāmasi dvitā́ hótāram mánuṣaś ca vāgháto dhiyā́ ráthaṁ ná kúliśaḥ sám r̥ṇvati

To Vaiśvānara, Agni, who makes cosmic order grow, we offer our pure, refined praise, like ghee. With our focused thoughts and prayers, we bring forth this offering, making him, our divine priest and messenger, accessible, just as a skilled craftsman shapes wood.

Stanza 3.2.2

स रो॑चयज्ज॒नुषा॒ रोद॑सी उ॒भे स मा॒त्रोर॑भवत्पु॒त्र ईड्यः॑ | ह॒व्य॒वाळ॒ग्निर॒जर॒श्चनो॑हितो दू॒ळभो॑ वि॒शामति॑थिर्वि॒भाव॑सुः ||

sá rocayaj janúṣā ródasī ubhé sá mātrór abhavat putrá ī́ḍyaḥ havyavā́ḷ agnír ajáraś cánohito dūḷábho viśā́m átithir vibhā́vasuḥ

Through his very birth, he lit up both the sky and the earth. He became a praiseworthy son to his parents. Agni, the bearer of offerings, is eternally young, content, unshakeable, the people's welcome guest, and full of radiant light.

Stanza 3.2.3

क्रत्वा॒ दक्ष॑स्य॒ तरु॑षो॒ विध॑र्मणि दे॒वासो॑ अ॒ग्निं ज॑नयन्त॒ चित्ति॑भिः | रु॒रु॒चा॒नं भा॒नुना॒ ज्योति॑षा म॒हामत्यं॒ न वाजं॑ सनि॒ष्यन्नुप॑ ब्रुवे ||

krátvā dákṣasya táruṣo vídharmaṇi devā́so agníṁ janayanta cíttibhiḥ rurucānám bhānúnā jyótiṣā mahā́m átyaṁ ná vā́jaṁ saniṣyánn úpa bruve

By their might and mindful thought, within the scope of their great power, the gods brought Agni into existence. I wish to approach him, who shines with brilliance and immense light, as one eager to win a race, seeking his favor.

Stanza 3.2.4

आ म॒न्द्रस्य॑ सनि॒ष्यन्तो॒ वरे॑ण्यं वृणी॒महे॒ अह्र॑यं॒ वाज॑मृ॒ग्मिय॑म् | रा॒तिं भृगू॑णामु॒शिजं॑ क॒विक्र॑तुम॒ग्निं राज॑न्तं दि॒व्येन॑ शो॒चिषा॑ ||

ā́ mandrásya saniṣyánto váreṇyaṁ vr̥ṇīmáhe áhrayaṁ vā́jam r̥gmíyam rātím bhŕ̥gūṇām uśíjaṁ kavíkratum agníṁ rā́jantaṁ divyéna śocíṣā

Eager to gain, we choose Agni, the friendly, the choiceworthy, the glorious! We seek from him the prize of the Bhrigus, the wise one with sage-like thought, Agni, who shines with heaven's own brilliant light.

Stanza 3.2.5

अ॒ग्निं सु॒म्नाय॑ दधिरे पु॒रो जना॒ वाज॑श्रवसमि॒ह वृ॒क्तब॑र्हिषः | य॒तस्रु॑चः सु॒रुचं॑ वि॒श्वदे॑व्यं रु॒द्रं य॒ज्ञानां॒ साध॑दिष्टिम॒पसा॑म् ||

agníṁ sumnā́ya dadhire puró jánā vā́jaśravasam ihá vr̥ktábarhiṣaḥ yatásrucaḥ surúcaṁ viśvádevyaṁ rudráṁ yajñā́nāṁ sā́dhadiṣṭim apásām

For joy and well-being, people have placed Agni, renowned for strength, here before them. With the sacred grass prepared and ladles ready, they invoke this brilliant Agni, the unified divine presence, the Rudra of sacrifices, who helps achieve the aims of their actions.

Stanza 3.2.6

पाव॑कशोचे॒ तव॒ हि क्षयं॒ परि॒ होत॑र्य॒ज्ञेषु॑ वृ॒क्तब॑र्हिषो॒ नरः॑ | अग्ने॒ दुव॑ इ॒च्छमा॑नास॒ आप्य॒मुपा॑सते॒ द्रवि॑णं धेहि॒ तेभ्यः॑ ||

pā́vakaśoce táva hí kṣáyam pári hótar yajñéṣu vr̥ktábarhiṣo náraḥ ágne dúva ichámānāsa ā́pyam úpāsate dráviṇaṁ dhehi tébhyaḥ

O Agni, with your purifying flames! Around your home, O priest, people with prepared altars surround you in worship. Seeking your service and friendship, they ask you, O Agni, to grant them wealth.

Stanza 3.2.7

आ रोद॑सी अपृण॒दा स्व॑र्म॒हज्जा॒तं यदे॑नम॒पसो॒ अधा॑रयन् | सो अ॑ध्व॒राय॒ परि॑ णीयते क॒विरत्यो॒ न वाज॑सातये॒ चनो॑हितः ||

ā́ ródasī apr̥ṇad ā́ svàr maháj jātáṁ yád enam apáso ádhārayan só adhvarā́ya pári ṇīyate kavír átyo ná vā́jasātaye cánohitaḥ

Agni has filled the earth, sky, and the great light of the sun. When he was born, active beings supported him. Now, this wise Agni, with a contented heart, is led along the ritual path, like a racehorse striving for victory and strength.

Stanza 3.2.8

न॒म॒स्यत॑ ह॒व्यदा॑तिं स्वध्व॒रं दु॑व॒स्यत॒ दम्यं॑ जा॒तवे॑दसम् | र॒थीर्ऋ॒तस्य॑ बृह॒तो विच॑र्षणिर॒ग्निर्दे॒वाना॑मभवत्पु॒रोहि॑तः ||

namasyáta havyádātiṁ svadhvaráṁ duvasyáta dámyaṁ jātávedasam rathī́r r̥tásya br̥ható vícarṣaṇir agnír devā́nām abhavat puróhitaḥ

Pay respect to Agni, the giver of offerings, the skilled performer of worship! Serve him, the household friend who knows all things. Agni, the charioteer of the great cosmic order, the perceptive one across many realms, has become the chief priest for the gods.

Stanza 3.2.9

ति॒स्रो य॒ह्वस्य॑ स॒मिधः॒ परि॑ज्मनो॒ऽग्नेर॑पुनन्नु॒शिजो॒ अमृ॑त्यवः | तासा॒मेका॒मद॑धु॒र्मर्त्ये॒ भुज॑मु लो॒कमु॒ द्वे उप॑ जा॒मिमी॑यतुः ||

tisró yahvásya samídhaḥ párijmano 'gnér apunann uśíjo ámr̥tyavaḥ tā́sām ékām ádadhur mártye bhújam u lokám u dvé úpa jāmím īyatuḥ

The immortal wise ones, desiring Agni, purified three energies for the great, wandering Agni. They placed one of these among mortals for their enjoyment; the other two entered a related realm.

Stanza 3.2.10

वि॒शां क॒विं वि॒श्पतिं॒ मानु॑षी॒रिषः॒ सं सी॑मकृण्व॒न्त्स्वधि॑तिं॒ न तेज॑से | स उ॒द्वतो॑ नि॒वतो॑ याति॒ वेवि॑ष॒त्स गर्भ॑मे॒षु भुव॑नेषु दीधरत् ||

viśā́ṁ kavíṁ viśpátim mā́nuṣīr íṣaḥ sáṁ sīm akr̥ṇvan svádhitiṁ ná téjase sá udváto niváto yāti véviṣat sá gárbham eṣú bhúvaneṣu dīdharat

Agni, the people's sage and lord, becomes sharp like an axe from their offerings. He actively moves through high and low places, ever watchful, sustaining the life-force within all these realms.

Stanza 3.2.11

स जि॑न्वते ज॒ठरे॑षु प्रजज्ञि॒वान्वृषा॑ चि॒त्रेषु॒ नान॑द॒न्न सिं॒हः | वै॒श्वा॒न॒रः पृ॑थु॒पाजा॒ अम॑र्त्यो॒ वसु॒ रत्ना॒ दय॑मानो॒ वि दा॒शुषे॑ ||

sá jinvate jaṭháreṣu prajajñivā́n vŕ̥ṣā citréṣu nā́nadan ná siṁháḥ vaiśvānaráḥ pr̥thupā́jā ámartyo vásu rátnā dáyamāno ví dāśúṣe

Agni, the immortal Vaiśvānara with vast power, awakens joyfully within various wombs, roaring like a lion or a bull. He generously distributes abundant treasures to those who offer gifts.

Stanza 3.2.12

वै॒श्वा॒न॒रः प्र॒त्नथा॒ नाक॒मारु॑हद्दि॒वस्पृ॒ष्ठं भन्द॑मानः सु॒मन्म॑भिः | स पू॑र्व॒वज्ज॒नय॑ञ्ज॒न्तवे॒ धनं॑ समा॒नमज्मं॒ पर्ये॑ति॒ जागृ॑विः ||

vaiśvānaráḥ pratnáthā nā́kam ā́ruhad divás pr̥ṣṭhám bhándamānaḥ sumánmabhiḥ sá pūrvaváj janáyañ jantáve dhánaṁ samānám ájmam páry eti jā́gr̥viḥ

Vaiśvānara Agni has ascended to the celestial heights, praised by those with pure thoughts. As he did before, he continues to create wealth for all beings. Always alert, he travels the common path.

Stanza 3.2.13

ऋ॒तावा॑नं य॒ज्ञियं॒ विप्र॑मु॒क्थ्य१॒॑मा यं द॒धे मा॑त॒रिश्वा॑ दि॒वि क्षय॑म् | तं चि॒त्रया॑मं॒ हरि॑केशमीमहे सुदी॒तिम॒ग्निं सु॑वि॒ताय॒ नव्य॑से ||

r̥tā́vānaṁ yajñíyaṁ vípram ukthyàm ā́ yáṁ dadhé mātaríśvā diví kṣáyam táṁ citráyāmaṁ hárikeśam īmahe sudītím agníṁ suvitā́ya návyase

We approach Agni, the righteous, the worshipful sage, praised in hymns, whom Mātariśvan established in the sky. We seek this brilliant, golden-haired Agni, shining with splendid light, for new well-being.

Stanza 3.2.14

शुचिं॒ न याम॑न्निषि॒रं स्व॒र्दृशं॑ के॒तुं दि॒वो रो॑चन॒स्थामु॑ष॒र्बुध॑म् | अ॒ग्निं मू॒र्धानं॑ दि॒वो अप्र॑तिष्कुतं॒ तमी॑महे॒ नम॑सा वा॒जिनं॑ बृ॒हत् ||

śúciṁ ná yā́mann iṣiráṁ svardŕ̥śaṁ ketúṁ divó rocanasthā́m uṣarbúdham agním mūrdhā́naṁ divó ápratiṣkutaṁ tám īmahe námasā vājínam br̥hát

Like a pure, swift, sun-like presence, the banner of the sky's radiance, waking at dawn – Agni, the head of heaven, unyielding! We approach him, the powerful one, with reverence and might.

Stanza 3.2.15

म॒न्द्रं होता॑रं॒ शुचि॒मद्व॑याविनं॒ दमू॑नसमु॒क्थ्यं॑ वि॒श्वच॑र्षणिम् | रथं॒ न चि॒त्रं वपु॑षाय दर्श॒तं मनु॑र्हितं॒ सद॒मिद्रा॒य ई॑महे ||

mandráṁ hótāraṁ śúcim ádvayāvinaṁ dámūnasam ukthyàṁ viśvácarṣaṇim ráthaṁ ná citráṁ vápuṣāya darśatám mánurhitaṁ sádam íd rāyá īmahe

We seek Agni, the joyful priest, pure and true, friend of the home, praised by all, beautiful like a splendid chariot. Established by Manu, we seek this radiant Agni for wealth and blessings.
