Stanza 10.17.1

त्वष्टा॑ दुहि॒त्रे व॑ह॒तुं कृ॑णो॒तीती॒दं विश्वं॒ भुव॑नं॒ समे॑ति | य॒मस्य॑ मा॒ता प॑र्यु॒ह्यमा॑ना म॒हो जा॒या विव॑स्वतो ननाश ||

tváṣṭā duhitré vahatúṁ kr̥ṇotī́tīdáṁ víśvam bhúvanaṁ sám eti yamásya mātā́ paryuhyámānā mahó jāyā́ vívasvato nanāśa

Tvashṭar prepares the bridal procession for his daughter; thus, the entire world comes together. But Yama's mother, the great Vivasvan's wife, vanished while being led away.

Stanza 10.17.2

अपा॑गूहन्न॒मृतां॒ मर्त्ये॑भ्यः कृ॒त्वी सव॑र्णामददु॒र्विव॑स्वते | उ॒ताश्विना॑वभर॒द्यत्तदासी॒दज॑हादु॒ द्वा मि॑थु॒ना स॑र॒ण्यूः ||

ápāgūhann amŕ̥tām mártyebhyaḥ kr̥tvī́ sávarṇām adadur vívasvate utā́śvínāv abharad yát tád ā́sīd ájahād u dvā́ mithunā́ saraṇyū́ḥ

They hid the immortal woman from mortals, made a likeness, and gave her to Vivasvan. Saraṇyû bore the twins Aśvins to him, and then abandoned both pairs of children.

Stanza 10.17.3

पू॒षा त्वे॒तश्च्या॑वयतु॒ प्र वि॒द्वानन॑ष्टपशु॒र्भुव॑नस्य गो॒पाः | स त्वै॒तेभ्यः॒ परि॑ ददत्पि॒तृभ्यो॒ऽग्निर्दे॒वेभ्यः॑ सुविद॒त्रिये॑भ्यः ||

pūṣā́ tvetáś cyāvayatu prá vidvā́n ánaṣṭapaśur bhúvanasya gopā́ḥ sá tvaitébhyaḥ pári dadat pitŕ̥bhyo 'gnír devébhyaḥ suvidatríyebhyaḥ

May Pūṣan, the wise protector of the world whose cattle are never lost, lead you away. May he hand you over to the fathers and to the benevolent gods.

Stanza 10.17.4

आयु॑र्वि॒श्वायुः॒ परि॑ पासति त्वा पू॒षा त्वा॑ पातु॒ प्रप॑थे पु॒रस्ता॑त् | यत्रास॑ते सु॒कृतो॒ यत्र॒ ते य॒युस्तत्र॑ त्वा दे॒वः स॑वि॒ता द॑धातु ||

ā́yur viśvā́yuḥ pári pāsati tvā pūṣā́ tvā pātu prápathe purástāt yátrā́sate sukŕ̥to yátra té yayús tátra tvā deváḥ savitā́ dadhātu

May Âyu, the giver of all life, protect you. May Pūṣan protect you as you move forward on the path. May the god Savitar place you where the virtuous reside and where they have gone.

Stanza 10.17.5

पू॒षेमा आशा॒ अनु॑ वेद॒ सर्वाः॒ सो अ॒स्माँ अभ॑यतमेन नेषत् | स्व॒स्ति॒दा आघृ॑णिः॒ सर्व॑वी॒रोऽप्र॑युच्छन्पु॒र ए॑तु प्रजा॒नन् ||

pūṣémā́ ā́śā ánu veda sárvāḥ só asmā́m̐ ábhayatamena neṣat svastidā́ ā́ghr̥ṇiḥ sárvavīró 'prayuchan purá etu prajānán

Pūṣan knows all these directions. May he lead us through the safest paths. May the blessed, radiant, and heroic Pūṣan, ever watchful, go before us with wisdom.

Stanza 10.17.6

प्रप॑थे प॒थाम॑जनिष्ट पू॒षा प्रप॑थे दि॒वः प्रप॑थे पृथि॒व्याः | उ॒भे अ॒भि प्रि॒यत॑मे स॒धस्थे॒ आ च॒ परा॑ च चरति प्रजा॒नन् ||

prápathe pathā́m ajaniṣṭa pūṣā́ prápathe diváḥ prápathe pr̥thivyā́ḥ ubhé abhí priyátame sadhásthe ā́ ca párā ca carati prajānán

Pūṣan was born to travel the paths, on the paths of heaven and the paths of earth. Moving to and from the two most beloved places of assembly, he travels with full knowledge.

Stanza 10.17.7

सर॑स्वतीं देव॒यन्तो॑ हवन्ते॒ सर॑स्वतीमध्व॒रे ता॒यमा॑ने | सर॑स्वतीं सु॒कृतो॑ अह्वयन्त॒ सर॑स्वती दा॒शुषे॒ वार्यं॑ दात् ||

sárasvatīṁ devayánto havante sárasvatīm adhvaré tāyámāne sárasvatīṁ sukŕ̥to ahvayanta sárasvatī dāśúṣe vā́ryaṁ dāt

Those who worship the gods call upon Sarasvatî; they invoke Sarasvatî during the sacrifice. The pious have invoked Sarasvatî. May Sarasvatî grant wealth to the giver.

Stanza 10.17.8

सर॑स्वति॒ या स॒रथं॑ य॒याथ॑ स्व॒धाभि॑र्देवि पि॒तृभि॒र्मद॑न्ती | आ॒सद्या॒स्मिन्ब॒र्हिषि॑ मादयस्वानमी॒वा इष॒ आ धे॑ह्य॒स्मे ||

sárasvati yā́ saráthaṁ yayā́tha svadhā́bhir devi pitŕ̥bhir mádantī āsádyāsmín barhíṣi mādayasvānamīvā́ íṣa ā́ dhehy asmé

O Sarasvatî, O Goddess, who came with the Fathers and rejoiced with them, be seated on this sacred grass and be joyful. Grant us strength and food that brings no sickness.

Stanza 10.17.9

सर॑स्वतीं॒ यां पि॒तरो॒ हव॑न्ते दक्षि॒णा य॒ज्ञम॑भि॒नक्ष॑माणाः | स॒ह॒स्रा॒र्घमि॒ळो अत्र॑ भा॒गं रा॒यस्पोषं॒ यज॑मानेषु धेहि ||

sárasvatīṁ yā́m pitáro hávante dakṣiṇā́ yajñám abhinákṣamāṇāḥ sahasrārghám iḷó átra bhāgáṁ rāyás póṣaṁ yájamāneṣu dhehi

The Fathers invoke you, O Sarasvatî, as you approach the sacrifice. O Dakṣiṇā, bestow upon the sacrificers here a share worth a thousand, and wealth and prosperity.

Stanza 10.17.10

आपो॑ अ॒स्मान्मा॒तरः॑ शुन्धयन्तु घृ॒तेन॑ नो घृत॒प्वः॑ पुनन्तु | विश्वं॒ हि रि॒प्रं प्र॒वह॑न्ति दे॒वीरुदिदा॑भ्यः॒ शुचि॒रा पू॒त ए॑मि ||

ā́po asmā́n mātáraḥ śundhayantu ghr̥téna no ghr̥tapvàḥ punantu víśvaṁ hí riprám praváhanti devī́r úd íd ābhyaḥ śúcir ā́ pūtá emi

May the waters, like mothers, cleanse us. May the ghee-purifiers cleanse us with ghee. For the goddesses carry away all impurity. From them, I emerge pure and clean.

Stanza 10.17.11

द्र॒प्सश्च॑स्कन्द प्रथ॒माँ अनु॒ द्यूनि॒मं च॒ योनि॒मनु॒ यश्च॒ पूर्वः॑ | स॒मा॒नं योनि॒मनु॑ सं॒चर॑न्तं द्र॒प्सं जु॑हो॒म्यनु॑ स॒प्त होत्राः॑ ||

drapsáś caskanda prathamā́m̐ ánu dyū́n imáṁ ca yónim ánu yáś ca pū́rvaḥ samānáṁ yónim ánu saṁcárantaṁ drapsáṁ juhomy ánu saptá hótrāḥ

The Drop descended through the first days, following this place and the one before it. I offer the Drop, moving within the same place, through the seven rituals.

Stanza 10.17.12

यस्ते॑ द्र॒प्सः स्कन्द॑ति॒ यस्ते॑ अं॒शुर्बा॒हुच्यु॑तो धि॒षणा॑या उ॒पस्था॑त् | अ॒ध्व॒र्योर्वा॒ परि॑ वा॒ यः प॒वित्रा॒त्तं ते॑ जुहोमि॒ मन॑सा॒ वष॑ट्कृतम् ||

yás te drapsá skándati yás te aṁśúr bāhúcyuto dhiṣáṇāyā upásthāt adhvaryór vā pári vā yáḥ pavítrāt táṁ te juhomi mánasā váṣaṭkr̥tam

O Adhvaryu, whatever drop of yours falls, whatever essence shaken by arms falls from the press or filter, that, I offer you with mind and the cry of Vaṣaṭ!

Stanza 10.17.13

यस्ते॑ द्र॒प्सः स्क॒न्नो यस्ते॑ अं॒शुर॒वश्च॒ यः प॒रः स्रु॒चा | अ॒यं दे॒वो बृह॒स्पतिः॒ सं तं सि॑ञ्चतु॒ राध॑से ||

yás te drapsá skannó yás te aṁśúr aváś ca yáḥ paráḥ srucā́ ayáṁ devó bŕ̥haspátiḥ sáṁ táṁ siñcatu rā́dhase

Whatever drop of yours has fallen, whatever essence, whether from above or below the ladle, may this present god Bŕ̥haspati combine it for prosperity.

Stanza 10.17.14

पय॑स्वती॒रोष॑धयः॒ पय॑स्वन्माम॒कं वचः॑ | अ॒पां पय॑स्व॒दित्पय॒स्तेन॑ मा स॒ह शु॑न्धत ||

páyasvatīr óṣadhayaḥ páyasvan māmakáṁ vácaḥ apā́m páyasvad ít páyas téna mā sahá śundhata

The plants are full of nourishment, and my speech is full of nourishment. The waters are indeed full of nourishment. With that, along with me, purify me.
