dévāḥ kapóta iṣitó yád ichán dūtó nírr̥tyā idám ājagā́ma tásmā arcāma kr̥ṇávāma níṣkr̥tiṁ śáṁ no astu dvipáde śáṁ cátuṣpade

O Gods, whatever this sent dove sought, when it came as a messenger of misfortune, for that we offer praise and make atonement. May it be well for our two-legged beings and well for our four-legged beings.

Stanza 10.165.2

śiváḥ kapóta iṣitó no astv anāgā́ devāḥ śakunó gr̥héṣu agnír hí vípro juṣátāṁ havír naḥ pári hetíḥ pakṣíṇī no vr̥ṇaktu

May the auspicious dove, sent by the Gods, be a harmless bird for us in our homes. May Agni, the wise, be pleased with our offering, and may the winged destructive force (or creature) avoid us.

Stanza 10.165.3

Let the winged destructive force not deceive us; may it settle its place near the fire-altar. May it bring welfare to our cattle and to our people. O Gods, may the dove not harm us here.

Stanza 10.165.4

yád úlūko vádati moghám etád yát kapótaḥ padám agnaú kr̥ṇóti yásya dūtáḥ práhita eṣá etát tásmai yamā́ya námo astu mr̥tyáve

The hooting of the owl is in vain; it is meaningless. The fact that the dove makes its place by the fire is also so. To him, who is Yama, who sent this as an envoy, to that Death, let there be reverence.

Stanza 10.165.5

r̥cā́ kapótaṁ nudata praṇódam íṣam mádantaḥ pári gā́ṁ nayadhvam saṁyopáyanto duritā́ni víśvā hitvā́ na ū́rjam prá patāt pátiṣṭhaḥ

Drive forth the dove with hymns; rejoicing, bring food and cattle here. Barring all evils, may the swift bird, after leaving us, fly forth and grant us vigour.
