Stanza 10.164.1
अपे॑हि मनसस्प॒तेऽप॑ क्राम प॒रश्च॑र | प॒रो निर्ऋ॑त्या॒ आ च॑क्ष्व बहु॒धा जीव॑तो॒ मनः॑ ||
ápehi manasas paté 'pa krāma paráś cara paró nírr̥tyā ā́ cakṣva bahudhā́ jī́vato mánaḥ
O Master of the mind, move away, depart far from here. Keep misfortune distant. Perceive the mind of the living, which is indeed manifold.
This verse is a prayer or invocation addressed to the "Master of the mind" (Manasaspati). It asks this deity to move away and cease to influence the speaker, to keep "Nirriti" (destruction or misfortune) at a distance, and to acknowledge that the mind of a living person can be multifaceted and perhaps prone to distraction or wandering thoughts.

भ॒द्रं वै वरं॑ वृणते भ॒द्रं यु॑ञ्जन्ति॒ दक्षि॑णम् | भ॒द्रं वै॑वस्व॒ते चक्षु॑र्बहु॒त्रा जीव॑तो॒ मनः॑ ||
bhadráṁ vaí váraṁ vr̥ṇate bhadráṁ yuñjanti dákṣiṇam bhadráṁ vaivasvaté cákṣur bahutrā́ jī́vato mánaḥ
Indeed, they choose the good fortune, they choose the prize; they embrace the auspicious right hand. The vision of Vaivasvata is good. Truly, the mind of the living person is manifold.
This verse speaks about the pursuit of auspiciousness. It suggests that people choose and embrace good fortune and beneficial outcomes. The "eye" or vision of Vaivasvata (a solar deity, often associated with Yama or Manu) is also perceived as beneficial. The verse concludes by reiterating that the mind of a living person is diverse and seeks many things, implying a need to direct these desires towards beneficial ends.

yád āśásā niḥśásābhiśásopārimá jā́grato yát svapántaḥ agnír víśvāny ápa duṣkr̥tā́ny ájuṣṭāny āré asmád dadhātu
If, by praise, by blame, by imprecation, we have erred, whether awake or sleeping, may Agni carry away all our evil deeds, those not accepted, far from us.
This verse is a plea for purification. The speaker acknowledges potential wrongdoings, whether through spoken words, criticism, or curses, committed while awake or asleep. They invoke Agni, the fire god, asking him to carry away all such evil deeds and offenses far from them.

yád indra brahmaṇas pate 'bhidroháṁ cárāmasi prácetā na āṅgirasó dviṣatā́m pātv áṁhasaḥ
O Indra, O Lord of prayer, if we act with rebellion, may the wise Angirasa protect us from our enemies and from sin.
The verse addresses Indra and Brahmanaspati (Lord of prayer/devotion), acknowledging that the speakers might engage in harmful or rebellious actions. They pray that the wise Angirasa (a sage, often associated with Indra) will protect them from their enemies and safeguard them from sin or suffering.

ájaiṣmādyā́sanāma cā́bhūmā́nāgaso vayám jāgratsvapnáḥ saṁkalpáḥ pāpó yáṁ dviṣmás táṁ sá r̥chatu yó no dvéṣṭi tám r̥chatu
We have won today, we have obtained; we have become free from sin. Let the evil thought, conceived awake or asleep, seize him whom we hate. Let him whom we hate seize him.
This verse expresses triumph and a sense of having overcome difficulties or sins. The speaker declares they have won today and are free from guilt. They then invoke a curse on any evil thought or intention, whether conscious or subconscious, wishing that it should befall the person they hate, and that the person who hates them should also experience the same fate.
