Stanza 8.77.1

ज॒ज्ञा॒नो नु श॒तक्र॑तु॒र्वि पृ॑च्छ॒दिति॑ मा॒तर॑म् | क उ॒ग्राः के ह॑ शृण्विरे ||

jajñānó nú śatákratur ví pr̥chad íti mātáram ká ugrā́ḥ ké ha śr̥ṇvire

Just born, Indra of a hundred powers asked his mother: "Who are the mighty ones? Who are famed?"

Stanza 8.77.2

आदीं॑ शव॒स्य॑ब्रवीदौर्णवा॒भम॑ही॒शुव॑म् | ते पु॑त्र सन्तु नि॒ष्टुरः॑ ||

ā́d īṁ śavasy àbravīd aurṇavābhám ahīśúvam té putra santu niṣṭúraḥ

Then Śavasin said to Aurṇavābha: "Son, these are the ones you must conquer."

Stanza 8.77.3

समित्तान्वृ॑त्र॒हाखि॑द॒त्खे अ॒राँ इ॑व॒ खेद॑या | प्रवृ॑द्धो दस्यु॒हाभ॑वत् ||

sám ít tā́n vr̥trahā́khidat khé arā́m̐ iva khédayā právr̥ddho dasyuhā́bhavat

The slayer of Vritra struck them all down, as spokes are hammered into the hub; the slayer of Dasyus grew mighty.

Stanza 8.77.4

एक॑या प्रति॒धापि॑बत्सा॒कं सरां॑सि त्रिं॒शत॑म् | इन्द्रः॒ सोम॑स्य काणु॒का ||

ékayā pratidhā́pibat sākáṁ sárāṁsi triṁśátam índraḥ sómasya kāṇukā́

Indra drank the Soma from thirty vessels in one draught, these vessels which were like pails.

Stanza 8.77.5

अ॒भि ग॑न्ध॒र्वम॑तृणदबु॒ध्नेषु॒ रजः॒स्वा | इन्द्रो॑ ब्र॒ह्मभ्य॒ इद्वृ॒धे ||

abhí gandharvám atr̥ṇad abudhnéṣu rájassv ā́ índro brahmábhya íd vr̥dhé

Indra pierced the Gandharva in the depths of the sky, to increase the strength of the Brahmans.

Stanza 8.77.6

निरा॑विध्यद्गि॒रिभ्य॒ आ धा॒रय॑त्प॒क्वमो॑द॒नम् | इन्द्रो॑ बु॒न्दं स्वा॑ततम् ||

nír āvidhyad giríbhya ā́ dhāráyat pakvám odanám índro bundáṁ svāā̀tatam

Indra shot forth his arrow from the mountains; he brought forth cooked rice and milk, and a prepared drink.

Stanza 8.77.7

श॒तब्र॑ध्न॒ इषु॒स्तव॑ स॒हस्र॑पर्ण॒ एक॒ इत् | यमि॑न्द्र चकृ॒षे युज॑म् ||

śatábradhna íṣus táva sahásraparṇa éka ít yám indra cakr̥ṣé yújam

O Indra, that arrow of yours, with a hundred barbs and a thousand feathers, is unique; you have made it your ally.

Stanza 8.77.8

तेन॑ स्तो॒तृभ्य॒ आ भ॑र॒ नृभ्यो॒ नारि॑भ्यो॒ अत्त॑वे | स॒द्यो जा॒त ऋ॑भुष्ठिर ||

téna stotŕ̥bhya ā́ bhara nŕ̥bhyo nā́ribhyo áttave sadyó jātá r̥bhuṣṭhira

Bring forth food with that for your worshippers, men and women, to eat, O Indra, strong from birth.

Stanza 8.77.9

ए॒ता च्यौ॒त्नानि॑ ते कृ॒ता वर्षि॑ष्ठानि॒ परी॑णसा | हृ॒दा वी॒ड्व॑धारयः ||

etā́ cyautnā́ni te kr̥tā́ várṣiṣṭhāni párīṇasā hr̥dā́ vīḍv àdhārayaḥ

These mighty achievements are yours, O Indra, and you have firmly established them in your heart.

Stanza 8.77.10

विश्वेत्ता विष्णु॒राभ॑रदुरुक्र॒मस्त्वेषि॑तः | श॒तं म॑हि॒षान्क्षी॑रपा॒कमो॑द॒नं व॑रा॒हमिन्द्र॑ एमु॒षम् ||

víśvét tā́ víṣṇur ā́bharad urukramás tvéṣitaḥ śatám mahiṣā́n kṣīrapākám odanáṁ varāhám índra emuṣám

Vishnu brought all these things, the one of great strides; Indra brought a hundred buffaloes and rice-milk, and slew the formidable boar.

Stanza 8.77.11

तु॒वि॒क्षं ते॒ सुकृ॑तं सू॒मयं॒ धनुः॑ सा॒धुर्बु॒न्दो हि॑र॒ण्ययः॑ | उ॒भा ते॑ बा॒हू रण्या॒ सुसं॑स्कृत ऋदू॒पे चि॑दृदू॒वृधा॑ ||

tuvikṣáṁ te súkr̥taṁ sūmáyaṁ dhánuḥ sādhúr bundó hiraṇyáyaḥ ubhā́ te bāhū́ ráṇyā súsaṁskr̥ta r̥dūpé cid r̥dūvŕ̥dhā

Your bow is powerful and well-made; your golden arrow is good. Your arms, O Indra, are warlike and well-equipped, increasing sweetness.
