इ॒न्धे राजा॒ सम॒र्यो नमो॑भि॒र्यस्य॒ प्रती॑क॒माहु॑तं घृ॒तेन॑ | नरो॑ ह॒व्येभि॑रीळते स॒बाध॒ आग्निरग्र॑ उ॒षसा॑मशोचि ||

The king, Agni, is kindled by homage and offerings; his face, smeared with ghee, is adored by men with oblations. Agni has shone forth at the very beginning of the dawns.

ayám u ṣyá súmahām̐ avedi hótā mandró mánuṣo yahvó agníḥ ví bhā́ akaḥ sasr̥jānáḥ pr̥thivyā́ṁ kr̥ṣṇápavir óṣadhībhir vavakṣe
Indeed, he is known as the very great Agni, the joyous priest of men, the youthful one. Spreading himself over the earth, he created light and grew with the plants, appearing with a dark hue.

O Agni, by what means do you embellish our hymn? What power do you wield when praised? When, O giver of gifts, may we become lords of wealth, and conquerors of difficult prosperity?
The worshipper addresses Agni, asking how he adorns their hymn with his presence and power. They inquire about the strength ('svadha') Agni exerts when praised and when he seeks to fulfill their desires. The verse concludes with a prayer to become masters of wealth and successful in obtaining prosperity, which is difficult to attain.

This Agni, belonging to the Bharatas, is widely heard. He shines forth with great brilliance, like the sun. He who stood firm against Pūru in battles, the divine guest, has blazed forth.

Indeed, abundant oblations are within you, O Agni. You become favorable with all your aspects. You are heard even when praised; O nobly-born, may you yourself grow in strength.
This verse states that many oblations are contained within Agni himself. He appears gracious and well-disposed with all his diverse forms and aspects. Even though he is already praised and heard, the poet urges Agni, who is of noble birth, to continue growing and expanding his divine form.

May this speech of ours, bringing hundreds and thousands, be born for Agni, the one of double strength. May it, when joyful, bring protection to the singers and the wealthy. May it always preserve us with blessings.
The poet offers this chant, which can bestow countless treasures, to Agni, born with immense power. This hymn is intended to bring well-being and drive away sickness and demons. The wish is that this prayer, when offered to Agni, will bring joy and protection to the singers and their community.

Now, O Agni, son of strength, lord of riches, we Vasishthas implore you, the ruler. You have brought food to the singers and the wealthy. May you preserve us always with blessings.
The Vasishtha sages address Agni, the son of strength and lord of riches. They implore him, recognizing his mastery over wealth. They ask Agni to bring nourishment ('isha') to them and to those who praise him and are prosperous. The verse concludes with a plea for divine protection and blessings for themselves, from Agni and other gods.
