The king, Agni, is kindled by homage and offerings; his face, smeared with ghee, is adored by men with oblations. Agni has shone forth at the very beginning of the dawns.

Indeed, he is known as the very great Agni, the joyous priest of men, the youthful one. Spreading himself over the earth, he created light and grew with the plants, appearing with a dark hue.

O Agni, by what means do you embellish our hymn? What power do you wield when praised? When, O giver of gifts, may we become lords of wealth, and conquerors of difficult prosperity?

This Agni, belonging to the Bharatas, is widely heard. He shines forth with great brilliance, like the sun. He who stood firm against Pūru in battles, the divine guest, has blazed forth.

Indeed, abundant oblations are within you, O Agni. You become favorable with all your aspects. You are heard even when praised; O nobly-born, may you yourself grow in strength.

May this speech of ours, bringing hundreds and thousands, be born for Agni, the one of double strength. May it, when joyful, bring protection to the singers and the wealthy. May it always preserve us with blessings.
