Stanza 7.33.1

śvityáñco mā dakṣiṇatáskapardā dhiyaṁjinvā́so abhí hí pramandúḥ uttíṣṭhan voce pári barhíṣo nr̥ŕ̥n ná me dūrā́d ávitave vásiṣṭhāḥ

O white-robed ones, with hair tied to the right, who inspire devotion, you have indeed attracted me. I proclaimed to the men, as I rose from the sacred grass: "The Vasishthas cannot help you from afar."

Stanza 7.33.2

dūrā́d índram anayann ā́ suténa tiró vaiśantám áti pā́ntam ugrám pā́śadyumnasya vāyatásya sómāt sutā́d índro 'vr̥ṇītā vásiṣṭhān

They brought Indra from afar with the soma libation, overcoming the powerful Vaiśanta. From the pressed soma, Indra chose the Vasishthas, rejecting the offering of Pāśadyumna, son of Vāyata.

Stanza 7.33.3

evén nú kaṁ síndhum ebhis tatārevén nú kam bhedám ebhir jaghāna evén nú kaṁ dāśarājñé sudā́sam prā́vad índro bráhmaṇā vo vasiṣṭhāḥ

Thus, indeed, with these hymns, they crossed the river. Thus, indeed, with these hymns, they defeated Bheda. Thus, indeed, in the battle of the Ten Kings, Indra, through your devotion, O Vasishthas, protected Sudāsa.

Stanza 7.33.4

O men, with favor, and with the prayers of the fathers, you have set our course firm. You will not suffer harm. For when you sang the Śakvarī verses with a great voice, O Vasishthas, you infused Indra with strength.

Stanza 7.33.5

Like thirsty ones looking to the sky, they were distressed, surrounded in the battle of the Ten Kings. When Vasishtha praised him, Indra heard and created ample space for the Tritsus.

Stanza 7.33.6

daṇḍā́ ivéd goájanāsa āsan párichinnā bharatā́ arbhakā́saḥ ábhavac ca puraetā́ vásiṣṭha ā́d ít tŕ̥tsūnāṁ víśo aprathanta

The Bharatas were like vulnerable sticks, stripped bare and defenseless. Vasishtha became their leader, and after that, the Tritsu clans spread widely.

Stanza 7.33.7

tráyaḥ kr̥ṇvanti bhúvaneṣu rétas tisráḥ prajā́ ā́ryā jyótiragrāḥ tráyo gharmā́sa uṣásaṁ sacante sárvām̐ ít tā́m̐ ánu vidur vásiṣṭhāḥ

Three entities fertilize the worlds with their essence; three noble beings lead with light. Three warm influences follow the dawn. All these, O Vasishthas, you have come to know.

Stanza 7.33.8

sū́ryasyeva vakṣátho jyótir eṣāṁ samudrásyeva mahimā́ gabhīráḥ vā́tasyeva prajavó nā́nyéna stómo vasiṣṭhā ánvetave vaḥ

Their brilliance grows like the sun's; their greatness is deep like the ocean's. Their movement is swift like the wind's. O Vasishthas, your praise cannot be attained by anyone else.

Stanza 7.33.9

tá ín niṇyáṁ hŕ̥dayasya praketaíḥ sahásravalśam abhí sáṁ caranti yaména tatám paridhíṁ váyanto 'psarása úpa sedur vásiṣṭhāḥ

They, with heart's perception, secretly approach that which spreads with a thousand branches. Weaving the boundary spun by Yama, the Vasishthas approached the Apsaras.

Stanza 7.33.10

vidyúto jyótiḥ pári saṁjíhānam mitrā́váruṇā yád ápaśyatāṁ tvā tát te jánmotaíkaṁ vasiṣṭhāgástyo yát tvā viśá ājabhā́ra

Your lightning-like, brilliant form was perceived by Mitra and Varuṇa. That singular birth of yours, O Vasishṭha, occurred when Agastya brought you from your lineage.

Stanza 7.33.11

utā́si maitrāvaruṇó vasiṣṭhorváśyā brahman mánasó 'dhi jātáḥ drapsáṁ skannám bráhmaṇā daívyena víśve devā́ḥ púṣkare tvādadanta

You are the son of Mitra and Varuṇa, O priest Vasishṭha, born from the mind of Urvaśī. As a divine drop, conceived in divine essence, all the gods placed you upon a lotus.

Stanza 7.33.12

sá praketá ubháyasya pravidvā́n sahásradāna utá vā sádānaḥ yaména tatám paridhíṁ vayiṣyánn apsarásaḥ pári jajñe vásiṣṭhaḥ

He, the thinker, knowing both realms, the giver of thousands, or always giving, destined to wear the boundary woven by Yama, Vasishtha sprang forth from the Apsaras.

Stanza 7.33.13

satré ha jātā́v iṣitā́ námobhiḥ kumbhé rétaḥ siṣicatuḥ samānám táto ha mā́na úd iyāya mádhyāt táto jātám ŕ̥ṣim āhur vásiṣṭham

Born at the sacrifice, urged by devotion, they both poured the same essence into the pitcher. From the middle of that, Mâna emerged. From that, they say, the sage Vasishtha was born.

Stanza 7.33.14

ukthabhŕ̥taṁ sāmabhŕ̥tam bibharti grā́vāṇam bíbhrat prá vadāty ágre úpainam ādhvaṁ sumanasyámānā ā́ vo gachāti pratr̥do vásiṣṭhaḥ

He carries the hymn and the chant; bringing the pressing stone, he speaks first. Approach him with good will, O Pratr̥idas, and Vasishtha will come to you.
