Stanza 5.58.1

तमु॑ नू॒नं तवि॑षीमन्तमेषां स्तु॒षे ग॒णं मारु॑तं॒ नव्य॑सीनाम् | य आ॒श्व॑श्वा॒ अम॑व॒द्वह॑न्त उ॒तेशि॑रे अ॒मृत॑स्य स्व॒राजः॑ ||

tám u nūnáṁ táviṣīmantam eṣāṁ stuṣé gaṇám mā́rutaṁ návyasīnām yá āśvàśvā ámavad váhanta utéśire amŕ̥tasya svarā́jaḥ

Now, I shall praise their strong and ever-youthful band, the company of the Maruts. They who ride with great speed on horses; indeed, they are self-ruling lords of immortality.

Stanza 5.58.2

त्वे॒षं ग॒णं त॒वसं॒ खादि॑हस्तं॒ धुनि॑व्रतं मा॒यिनं॒ दाति॑वारम् | म॒यो॒भुवो॒ ये अमि॑ता महि॒त्वा वन्द॑स्व विप्र तुवि॒राध॑सो॒ नॄन् ||

tveṣáṁ gaṇáṁ tavásaṁ khā́dihastaṁ dhúnivratam māyínaṁ dā́tivāram mayobhúvo yé ámitā mahitvā́ vándasva vipra tuvirā́dhaso nr̥ŕ̥n

Praise the shining, strong, and swiftly-moving group, who bear armlets, are movers of joy, immeasurable in their greatness, magical, and bestowers of gifts. Praise, O poet, these men of great wealth!

Stanza 5.58.3

आ वो॑ यन्तूदवा॒हासो॑ अ॒द्य वृ॒ष्टिं ये विश्वे॑ म॒रुतो॑ जु॒नन्ति॑ | अ॒यं यो अ॒ग्निर्म॑रुतः॒ समि॑द्ध ए॒तं जु॑षध्वं कवयो युवानः ||

ā́ vo yantūdavāhā́so adyá vr̥ṣṭíṁ yé víśve marúto junánti ayáṁ yó agnír marutaḥ sámiddha etáṁ juṣadhvaṁ kavayo yuvānaḥ

May your water-bringing attendants come to us today, all you Maruts who stir up the rain! This fire, O Maruts, has been kindled for you; accept it, O young sages.

Stanza 5.58.4

यू॒यं राजा॑न॒मिर्यं॒ जना॑य विभ्वत॒ष्टं ज॑नयथा यजत्राः | यु॒ष्मदे॑ति मुष्टि॒हा बा॒हुजू॑तो यु॒ष्मत्सद॑श्वो मरुतः सु॒वीरः॑ ||

yūyáṁ rā́jānam íryaṁ jánāya vibhvataṣṭáṁ janayathā yajatrāḥ yuṣmád eti muṣṭihā́ bāhújūto yuṣmád sádaśvo marutaḥ suvī́raḥ

You, O worshipful ones, create for the people an active king, fashioned by the great craftsman. From you comes the fighter with his fist, swift of arm, the Maruts, and the hero with good horses.

Stanza 5.58.5

अ॒रा इ॒वेदच॑रमा॒ अहे॑व॒ प्रप्र॑ जायन्ते॒ अक॑वा॒ महो॑भिः | पृश्नेः॑ पु॒त्रा उ॑प॒मासो॒ रभि॑ष्ठाः॒ स्वया॑ म॒त्या म॒रुतः॒ सं मि॑मिक्षुः ||

arā́ ivéd ácaramā áheva prá-pra jāyante ákavā máhobhiḥ pŕ̥śneḥ putrā́ upamā́so rábhiṣṭhāḥ sváyā matyā́ marútaḥ sám mimikṣuḥ

Like spokes of a wheel, none are last, they are born continuously like days, not lacking in might. The highest sons of Prisni, full of fury, the Maruts firmly adhere to their own minds.

Stanza 5.58.6

यत्प्राया॑सिष्ट॒ पृष॑तीभि॒रश्वै॑र्वीळुप॒विभि॑र्मरुतो॒ रथे॑भिः | क्षोद॑न्त॒ आपो॑ रिण॒ते वना॒न्यवो॒स्रियो॑ वृष॒भः क्र॑न्दतु॒ द्यौः ||

yát prā́yāsiṣṭa pŕ̥ṣatībhir áśvair vīḷupavíbhir maruto ráthebhiḥ kṣódanta ā́po riṇaté vánāny ávosríyo vr̥ṣabháḥ krandatu dyaúḥ

When you have come with your spotted horses on chariots with strong wheels, O Maruts, the waters churn, the forests split apart. Let Dyaus, the bull of the dawn, roar downwards.

Stanza 5.58.7

प्रथि॑ष्ट॒ याम॑न्पृथि॒वी चि॑देषां॒ भर्ते॑व॒ गर्भं॒ स्वमिच्छवो॑ धुः | वाता॒न्ह्यश्वा॑न्धु॒र्या॑युयु॒ज्रे व॒र्षं स्वेदं॑ चक्रिरे रु॒द्रिया॑सः ||

práthiṣṭa yā́man pr̥thivī́ cid eṣām bhárteva gárbhaṁ svám íc chávo dhuḥ vā́tān hy áśvān dhury āā̀yuyujré varṣáṁ svédaṁ cakrire rudríyāsaḥ

At their approach, the very Earth expanded, and they, like husbands, deposited their own power. Indeed, they harnessed the winds as horses to the yoke, and the sons of Rudra transformed their sweat into rain.

Stanza 5.58.8

ह॒ये नरो॒ मरु॑तो मृ॒ळता॑ न॒स्तुवी॑मघासो॒ अमृ॑ता॒ ऋत॑ज्ञाः | सत्य॑श्रुतः॒ कव॑यो॒ युवा॑नो॒ बृह॑द्गिरयो बृ॒हदु॒क्षमा॑णाः ||

hayé náro máruto mr̥ḷátā nas túvīmaghāso ámr̥tā ŕ̥tajñāḥ sátyaśrutaḥ kávayo yúvāno bŕ̥hadgirayo br̥hád ukṣámāṇāḥ

Hark, O heroes, O Maruts! Be gracious to us! You who possess great bounty, are immortal, know the cosmic order, truly hear us, are wise, young, dwelling on mighty mountains, and growing mighty.
