Stanza 5.11.1

जन॑स्य गो॒पा अ॑जनिष्ट॒ जागृ॑विर॒ग्निः सु॒दक्षः॑ सुवि॒ताय॒ नव्य॑से | घृ॒तप्र॑तीको बृह॒ता दि॑वि॒स्पृशा॑ द्यु॒मद्वि भा॑ति भर॒तेभ्यः॒ शुचिः॑ ||

jánasya gopā́ ajaniṣṭa jā́gr̥vir agníḥ sudákṣaḥ suvitā́ya návyase ghr̥tápratīko br̥hatā́ divispŕ̥śā dyumád ví bhāti bharatébhyaḥ śúciḥ

The guardian of people, the ever-watchful Agni, has been born, full of mighty power, for new prosperity. With a shining countenance, and a great, heaven-touching brilliance, the pure Agni shines brightly for the Bharatas.

Stanza 5.11.2

य॒ज्ञस्य॑ के॒तुं प्र॑थ॒मं पु॒रोहि॑तम॒ग्निं नर॑स्त्रिषध॒स्थे समी॑धिरे | इन्द्रे॑ण दे॒वैः स॒रथं॒ स ब॒र्हिषि॒ सीद॒न्नि होता॑ य॒जथा॑य सु॒क्रतुः॑ ||

yajñásya ketúm prathamám puróhitam agníṁ náras triṣadhasthé sám īdhire índreṇa devaíḥ saráthaṁ sá barhíṣi sī́dan ní hótā yajáthāya sukrátuḥ

Men have kindled Agni, the beacon of sacrifice, the first appointed priest, in the threefold realm. He, the wise Hotri (priest), has sat down on the sacred grass with Indra and the gods, to perform the sacrifice.

Stanza 5.11.3

अस॑म्मृष्टो जायसे मा॒त्रोः शुचि॑र्म॒न्द्रः क॒विरुद॑तिष्ठो वि॒वस्व॑तः | घृ॒तेन॑ त्वावर्धयन्नग्न आहुत धू॒मस्ते॑ के॒तुर॑भवद्दि॒वि श्रि॒तः ||

ásammr̥ṣṭo jāyase mātróḥ śúcir mandráḥ kavír úd atiṣṭho vivásvataḥ ghr̥téna tvāvardhayann agna āhuta dhūmás te ketúr abhavad diví śritáḥ

Though not cleansed, you are born pure from your mothers. You have arisen as a delightful sage belonging to Vivasvan. They have strengthened you with ghee, O Agni, into whom offerings are poured. Smoke, reaching the sky, has become your banner.

Stanza 5.11.4

अ॒ग्निर्नो॑ य॒ज्ञमुप॑ वेतु साधु॒याग्निं नरो॒ वि भ॑रन्ते गृ॒हेगृ॑हे | अ॒ग्निर्दू॒तो अ॑भवद्धव्य॒वाह॑नो॒ऽग्निं वृ॑णा॒ना वृ॑णते क॒विक्र॑तुम् ||

agnír no yajñám úpa vetu sādhuyā́gníṁ náro ví bharante gr̥hé-gr̥he agnír dūtó abhavad dhavyavā́hano 'gníṁ vr̥ṇānā́ vr̥ṇate kavíkratum

May Agni come to our sacrifice favorably. Men carry Agni everywhere, in every home. Agni became the messenger, the bearer of offerings. By choosing Agni, they choose wisdom and divine power.

Stanza 5.11.5

तुभ्ये॒दम॑ग्ने॒ मधु॑मत्तमं॒ वच॒स्तुभ्यं॑ मनी॒षा इ॒यम॑स्तु॒ शं हृ॒दे | त्वां गिरः॒ सिन्धु॑मिवा॒वनी॑र्म॒हीरा पृ॑णन्ति॒ शव॑सा व॒र्धय॑न्ति च ||

túbhyedám agne mádhumattamaṁ vácas túbhyam manīṣā́ iyám astu śáṁ hr̥dé tvā́ṁ gíraḥ síndhum ivāvánīr mahī́r ā́ pr̥ṇanti śávasā vardháyanti ca

For you, O Agni, is this sweetest speech and for you this prayer; may it bring happiness to your heart! The hymns fill you with power and strengthen you, like great rivers fill the ocean.

Stanza 5.11.6

त्वाम॑ग्ने॒ अङ्गि॑रसो॒ गुहा॑ हि॒तमन्व॑विन्दञ्छिश्रिया॒णं वने॑वने | स जा॑यसे म॒थ्यमा॑नः॒ सहो॑ म॒हत्त्वामा॑हुः॒ सह॑सस्पु॒त्रम॑ङ्गिरः ||

tvā́m agne áṅgiraso gúhā hitám ánv avindañ chiśriyāṇáṁ váne-vane sá jāyase mathyámānaḥ sáho mahát tvā́m āhuḥ sáhasas putrám aṅgiraḥ

You, O Agni, who were hidden, dwelling in every wood, the Angiras discovered. You are born from friction, a great strength. Thee, O Angiras, they call the son of strength.
