Stanza 3.8.1

अ॒ञ्जन्ति॒ त्वाम॑ध्व॒रे दे॑व॒यन्तो॒ वन॑स्पते॒ मधु॑ना॒ दैव्ये॑न | यदू॒र्ध्वस्तिष्ठा॒ द्रवि॑णे॒ह ध॑त्ता॒द्यद्वा॒ क्षयो॑ मा॒तुर॒स्या उ॒पस्थे॑ ||

añjánti tvā́m adhvaré devayánto vánaspate mádhunā daívyena yád ūrdhvás tíṣṭhā dráviṇehá dhattād yád vā kṣáyo mātúr asyā́ upásthe

Oh, Lord of the Forest, those who seek the divine are anointing you with heavenly sweetness in this ritual. Grant us wealth, whether you stand tall or rest in the embrace of your mother (the earth).

Stanza 3.8.2

समि॑द्धस्य॒ श्रय॑माणः पु॒रस्ता॒द्ब्रह्म॑ वन्वा॒नो अ॒जरं॑ सु॒वीर॑म् | आ॒रे अ॒स्मदम॑तिं॒ बाध॑मान॒ उच्छ्र॑यस्व मह॒ते सौभ॑गाय ||

sámiddhasya śráyamāṇaḥ purástād bráhma vanvānó ajáraṁ suvī́ram āré asmád ámatim bā́dhamāna úc chrayasva mahaté saúbhagāya

Set up before the sacred fire, accepting our heartfelt chants, rise up for great prosperity! Bring us strength and protect us, driving away all hardship.

Stanza 3.8.3

उच्छ्र॑यस्व वनस्पते॒ वर्ष्म॑न्पृथि॒व्या अधि॑ | सुमि॑ती मी॒यमा॑नो॒ वर्चो॑ धा य॒ज्ञवा॑हसे ||

úc chrayasva vanaspate várṣman pr̥thivyā́ ádhi súmitī mīyámāno várco dhā yajñávāhase

Rise up, O Lord of the Forest, stand tall on the highest point of the earth! Bestow your brilliance for the sake of this important ritual.

Stanza 3.8.4

युवा॑ सु॒वासाः॒ परि॑वीत॒ आगा॒त्स उ॒ श्रेया॑न्भवति॒ जाय॑मानः | तं धीरा॑सः क॒वय॒ उन्न॑यन्ति स्वा॒ध्यो॒३॒॑ मन॑सा देव॒यन्तः॑ ||

yúvā suvā́sāḥ párivīta ā́gāt sá u śréyān bhavati jā́yamānaḥ táṁ dhī́rāsaḥ kaváya ún nayanti svādhyò mánasā devayántaḥ

Like a well-dressed youth, he has arrived! He grows more glorious as he comes into being. The wise and God-focused sages lift him up with their minds.

Stanza 3.8.5

जा॒तो जा॑यते सुदिन॒त्वे अह्नां॑ सम॒र्य आ वि॒दथे॒ वर्ध॑मानः | पु॒नन्ति॒ धीरा॑ अ॒पसो॑ मनी॒षा दे॑व॒या विप्र॒ उदि॑यर्ति॒ वाच॑म् ||

jātó jāyate sudinatvé áhnāṁ samaryá ā́ vidáthe várdhamānaḥ punánti dhī́rā apáso manīṣā́ devayā́ vípra úd iyarti vā́cam

Born anew each auspicious day, he grows in assemblies and rituals. The wise and active purify him with their thoughts; the inspired speaker, devoted to the gods, utters his voice.

Stanza 3.8.6

यान्वो॒ नरो॑ देव॒यन्तो॑ निमि॒म्युर्वन॑स्पते॒ स्वधि॑तिर्वा त॒तक्ष॑ | ते दे॒वासः॒ स्वर॑वस्तस्थि॒वांसः॑ प्र॒जाव॑द॒स्मे दि॑धिषन्तु॒ रत्न॑म् ||

yā́n vo náro devayánto nimimyúr vánaspate svádhitir vā tatákṣa té devā́saḥ sváravas tasthivā́ṁsaḥ prajā́vad asmé didhiṣantu rátnam

O worshippers, you who have set these posts firmly in place, perhaps shaped by the axe! May the divine posts, standing strong, grant us wealth and many children.

Stanza 3.8.7

ये वृ॒क्णासो॒ अधि॒ क्षमि॒ निमि॑तासो य॒तस्रु॑चः | ते नो॑ व्यन्तु॒ वार्यं॑ देव॒त्रा क्षे॑त्र॒साध॑सः ||

yé vr̥kṇā́so ádhi kṣámi nímitāso yatásrucaḥ té no vyantu vā́ryaṁ devatrā́ kṣetrasā́dhasaḥ

These posts, shaped and fixed in the earth, with which the ladles are raised – may they, who bring blessings to our land, help us obtain precious gifts from the gods.

Stanza 3.8.8

आ॒दि॒त्या रु॒द्रा वस॑वः सुनी॒था द्यावा॒क्षामा॑ पृथि॒वी अ॒न्तरि॑क्षम् | स॒जोष॑सो य॒ज्ञम॑वन्तु दे॒वा ऊ॒र्ध्वं कृ॑ण्वन्त्वध्व॒रस्य॑ के॒तुम् ||

ādityā́ rudrā́ vásavaḥ sunīthā́ dyā́vākṣā́mā pr̥thivī́ antárikṣam sajóṣaso yajñám avantu devā́ ūrdhváṁ kr̥ṇvantv adhvarásya ketúm

May the Adityas, Rudras, Vasus, good leaders, the sky and earth, and the atmosphere – all the gods together – bless this sacrifice and raise its banner high!

Stanza 3.8.9

हं॒सा इ॑व श्रेणि॒शो यता॑नाः शु॒क्रा वसा॑नाः॒ स्वर॑वो न॒ आगुः॑ | उ॒न्नी॒यमा॑नाः क॒विभिः॑ पु॒रस्ता॑द्दे॒वा दे॒वाना॒मपि॑ यन्ति॒ पाथः॑ ||

haṁsā́ iva śreṇiśó yátānāḥ śukrā́ vásānāḥ sváravo na ā́guḥ unnīyámānāḥ kavíbhiḥ purástād devā́ devā́nām ápi yanti pā́thaḥ

Like swans in orderly rows, shining brightly, the posts have come to us. Led by the wise, they move forward like gods towards the divine abode.

Stanza 3.8.10

शृङ्गा॑णी॒वेच्छृ॒ङ्गिणां॒ सं द॑दृश्रे च॒षाल॑वन्तः॒ स्वर॑वः पृथि॒व्याम् | वा॒घद्भि॑र्वा विह॒वे श्रोष॑माणा अ॒स्माँ अ॑वन्तु पृत॒नाज्ये॑षु ||

śŕ̥ṅgāṇīvéc chr̥ṅgíṇāṁ sáṁ dadr̥śre caṣā́lavantaḥ sváravaḥ pr̥thivyā́m vāghádbhir vā vihavé śróṣamāṇā asmā́m̐ avantu pr̥tanā́jyeṣu

The posts, adorned like horned animals, are seen on the earth. May they, hearing our calls during rituals and battles, protect us in conflicts.

Stanza 3.8.11

वन॑स्पते श॒तव॑ल्शो॒ वि रो॑ह स॒हस्र॑वल्शा॒ वि व॒यं रु॑हेम | यं त्वाम॒यं स्वधि॑ति॒स्तेज॑मानः प्रणि॒नाय॑ मह॒ते सौभ॑गाय ||

vánaspate śatávalśo ví roha sahásravalśā ví vayáṁ ruhema yáṁ tvā́m ayáṁ svádhitis téjamānaḥ praṇinā́ya mahaté saúbhagāya

O Lord of the Forest, grow with a hundred branches! May we also flourish with a thousand branches! You, whom this sharpened axe has brought forth for great prosperity.
