Stanza 3.32.1

इन्द्र॒ सोमं॑ सोमपते॒ पिबे॒मं माध्यं॑दिनं॒ सव॑नं॒ चारु॒ यत्ते॑ | प्र॒प्रुथ्या॒ शिप्रे॑ मघवन्नृजीषिन्वि॒मुच्या॒ हरी॑ इ॒ह मा॑दयस्व ||

índra sómaṁ somapate píbemám mā́dhyaṁdinaṁ sávanaṁ cā́ru yát te praprúthyā śípre maghavann r̥jīṣin vimúcyā hárī ihá mādayasva

Indra, Lord of Soma, please drink this Soma! Enjoy this delightful offering at the midday ritual. King, puff up your cheeks, you who are mighty and generous! Loosen your horses here and rejoice!

Stanza 3.32.2

गवा॑शिरं म॒न्थिन॑मिन्द्र शु॒क्रं पिबा॒ सोमं॑ ररि॒मा ते॒ मदा॑य | ब्र॒ह्म॒कृता॒ मारु॑तेना ग॒णेन॑ स॒जोषा॑ रु॒द्रैस्तृ॒पदा वृ॑षस्व ||

gávāśiram manthínam indra śukrám píbā sómaṁ rarimā́ te mádāya brahmakŕ̥tā mā́rutenā gaṇéna sajóṣā rudraís tr̥pád ā́ vr̥ṣasva

Indra, drink this pure Soma, mixed with milk and churned! We've poured it out for your delight. Come, join the Maruts and the Rudras, and be fully satisfied!

Stanza 3.32.3

ये ते॒ शुष्मं॒ ये तवि॑षी॒मव॑र्ध॒न्नर्च॑न्त इन्द्र म॒रुत॑स्त॒ ओजः॑ | माध्यं॑दिने॒ सव॑ने वज्रहस्त॒ पिबा॑ रु॒द्रेभिः॒ सग॑णः सुशिप्र ||

yé te śúṣmaṁ yé táviṣīm ávardhann árcanta indra marútas ta ójaḥ mā́dhyaṁdine sávane vajrahasta píbā rudrébhiḥ ságaṇaḥ suśipra

Indra, those who chant and increase your might and power – the Maruts! Drink the Soma during the midday ritual, O you with the thunderbolt in hand and beautiful cheeks! Be happy with the Rudras and their group!

Stanza 3.32.4

त इन्न्व॑स्य॒ मधु॑मद्विविप्र॒ इन्द्र॑स्य॒ शर्धो॑ म॒रुतो॒ य आस॑न् | येभि॑र्वृ॒त्रस्ये॑षि॒तो वि॒वेदा॑म॒र्मणो॒ मन्य॑मानस्य॒ मर्म॑ ||

tá ín nv àsya mádhumad vivipra índrasya śárdho marúto yá ā́san yébhir vr̥trásyeṣitó vivédāmarmáṇo mányamānasya márma

These Maruts, who were there, inspired Indra's awesome power! They helped him defeat Vritra, even though Vritra thought he was untouchable. Thanks to them, Indra found Vritra's weakness.

Stanza 3.32.5

म॒नु॒ष्वदि॑न्द्र॒ सव॑नं जुषा॒णः पिबा॒ सोमं॒ शश्व॑ते वी॒र्या॑य | स आ व॑वृत्स्व हर्यश्व य॒ज्ञैः स॑र॒ण्युभि॑र॒पो अर्णा॑ सिसर्षि ||

manuṣvád indra sávanaṁ juṣāṇáḥ píbā sómaṁ śáśvate vīryāā̀ya sá ā́ vavr̥tsva haryaśva yajñaíḥ saraṇyúbhir apó árṇā sisarṣi

Indra, enjoy this offering as a mortal would! Drink the Soma for lasting strength. O you with the bay horses, come near through these sacrifices! You propel the flowing waters!

Stanza 3.32.6

त्वम॒पो यद्ध॑ वृ॒त्रं ज॑घ॒न्वाँ अत्याँ॑ इव॒ प्रासृ॑जः॒ सर्त॒वाजौ | शया॑नमिन्द्र॒ चर॑ता व॒धेन॑ वव्रि॒वांसं॒ परि॑ दे॒वीरदे॑वम् ||

tvám apó yád dha vr̥tráṁ jaghanvā́m̐ átyām̐ iva prā́sr̥jaḥ sártavā́jaú śáyānam indra cáratā vadhéna vavrivā́ṁsam pári devī́r ádevam

When you killed Vritra, who was coiled around the waters, you released them like swift horses in a race! O Indra, you also kept the divine feminine powers safe, when they were surrounded by the godless Vritra.

Stanza 3.32.7

यजा॑म॒ इन्नम॑सा वृ॒द्धमिन्द्रं॑ बृ॒हन्त॑मृ॒ष्वम॒जरं॒ युवा॑नम् | यस्य॑ प्रि॒ये म॒मतु॑र्य॒ज्ञिय॑स्य॒ न रोद॑सी महि॒मानं॑ म॒माते॑ ||

yájāma ín námasā vr̥ddhám índram br̥hántam r̥ṣvám ajáraṁ yúvānam yásya priyé mamátur yajñíyasya ná ródasī mahimā́nam mamā́te

Let us worship Indra with reverence! He is mighty, great, eternal, and forever young. Neither the sky nor the earth can grasp his greatness or his divine might.

Stanza 3.32.8

इन्द्र॑स्य॒ कर्म॒ सुकृ॑ता पु॒रूणि॑ व्र॒तानि॑ दे॒वा न मि॑नन्ति॒ विश्वे॑ | दा॒धार॒ यः पृ॑थि॒वीं द्यामु॒तेमां ज॒जान॒ सूर्य॑मु॒षसं॑ सु॒दंसाः॑ ||

índrasya kárma súkr̥tā purū́ṇi vratā́ni devā́ ná minanti víśve dādhā́ra yáḥ pr̥thivī́ṁ dyā́m utémā́ṁ jajā́na sū́ryam uṣásaṁ sudáṁsāḥ

Indra's great deeds are numerous and well-done! No god breaks his rules. He upholds the earth and sky, and as a great creator, he brought forth the Sun and the Dawn.

Stanza 3.32.9

अद्रो॑घ स॒त्यं तव॒ तन्म॑हि॒त्वं स॒द्यो यज्जा॒तो अपि॑बो ह॒ सोम॑म् | न द्याव॑ इन्द्र त॒वस॑स्त॒ ओजो॒ नाहा॒ न मासाः॑ श॒रदो॑ वरन्त ||

ádrogha satyáṁ táva tán mahitváṁ sadyó yáj jātó ápibo ha sómam ná dyā́va indra tavásas ta ójo nā́hā ná mā́sāḥ śarádo varanta

O Guileless Indra, your greatness is clear! As soon as you were born, you drank the Soma. Even days, nights, months, and seasons cannot contain your immense power!

Stanza 3.32.10

त्वं स॒द्यो अ॑पिबो जा॒त इ॑न्द्र॒ मदा॑य॒ सोमं॑ पर॒मे व्यो॑मन् | यद्ध॒ द्यावा॑पृथि॒वी आवि॑वेशी॒रथा॑भवः पू॒र्व्यः का॒रुधा॑याः ||

tváṁ sadyó apibo jātá indra mádāya sómam paramé vyòman yád dha dyā́vāpr̥thivī́ ā́viveśīr áthābhavaḥ pūrvyáḥ kārúdhāyāḥ

You, Indra, right after being born in the highest heaven, drank Soma for delight! And when you entered earth and sky, you became the primary supporter of the singers.

Stanza 3.32.11

अह॒न्नहिं॑ परि॒शया॑न॒मर्ण॑ ओजा॒यमा॑नं तुविजात॒ तव्या॑न् | न ते॑ महि॒त्वमनु॑ भू॒दध॒ द्यौर्यद॒न्यया॑ स्फि॒ग्या॒३॒॑ क्षामव॑स्थाः ||

áhann áhim pariśáyānam árṇa ojāyámānaṁ tuvijāta távyān ná te mahitvám ánu bhūd ádha dyaúr yád anyáyā sphigyāā̀ kṣā́m ávasthāḥ

You, Indra, powerfully born and stronger than any, killed the serpent Ahi, who was coiled around the waters, showing his strength! Not even the sky could match your greatness; when you moved, your hip alone shadowed the earth!

Stanza 3.32.12

य॒ज्ञो हि त॑ इन्द्र॒ वर्ध॑नो॒ भूदु॒त प्रि॒यः सु॒तसो॑मो मि॒येधः॑ | य॒ज्ञेन॑ य॒ज्ञम॑व य॒ज्ञियः॒ सन्य॒ज्ञस्ते॒ वज्र॑महि॒हत्य॑ आवत् ||

yajñó hí ta indra várdhano bhū́d utá priyáḥ sutásomo miyédhaḥ yajñéna yajñám ava yajñíyaḥ sán yajñás te vájram ahihátya āvat

Indra, sacrifice and the Soma offering have made you grow mighty and are dear to you. O worthy one, help our worship with your worship! Your thunderbolt, strengthened by sacrifice, killed Vritra.

Stanza 3.32.13

य॒ज्ञेनेन्द्र॒मव॒सा च॑क्रे अ॒र्वागैनं॑ सु॒म्नाय॒ नव्य॑से ववृत्याम् | यः स्तोमे॑भिर्वावृ॒धे पू॒र्व्येभि॒र्यो म॑ध्य॒मेभि॑रु॒त नूत॑नेभिः ||

yajñénéndram ávasā́ cakre arvā́g aínaṁ sumnā́ya návyase vavr̥tyām yá stómebhir vāvr̥dhé pūrvyébhir yó madhyamébhir utá nū́tanebhiḥ

With sacrifice and help, I have brought Indra near! I want to turn him towards me for new blessings. He who grows mighty with ancient, middle, and new praises!

Stanza 3.32.14

वि॒वेष॒ यन्मा॑ धि॒षणा॑ ज॒जान॒ स्तवै॑ पु॒रा पार्या॒दिन्द्र॒मह्नः॑ | अंह॑सो॒ यत्र॑ पी॒पर॒द्यथा॑ नो ना॒वेव॒ यान्त॑मु॒भये॑ हवन्ते ||

vivéṣa yán mā dhiṣáṇā jajā́na stávai purā́ pā́ryād índram áhnaḥ áṁhaso yátra pīpárad yáthā no nāvéva yā́ntam ubháye havante

I have created a hymn when inspired! Before the decisive day, I praise Indra. May he help us cross dangers, like a ship! Both humans and gods call to him for help.

Stanza 3.32.15

आपू॑र्णो अस्य क॒लशः॒ स्वाहा॒ सेक्ते॑व॒ कोशं॑ सिसिचे॒ पिब॑ध्यै | समु॑ प्रि॒या आव॑वृत्र॒न्मदा॑य प्रदक्षि॒णिद॒भि सोमा॑स॒ इन्द्र॑म् ||

ā́pūrṇo asya kaláśaḥ svā́hā sékteva kóśaṁ sisice píbadhyai sám u priyā́ ā́vavr̥tran mádāya pradakṣiṇíd abhí sómāsa índram

His cup is full! Svaha! Like a diligent server, I have filled the vessel for drinking. The dear Soma juices, circling clockwise, have turned towards Indra for his delight!

Stanza 3.32.16

न त्वा॑ गभी॒रः पु॑रुहूत॒ सिन्धु॒र्नाद्र॑यः॒ परि॒ षन्तो॑ वरन्त | इ॒त्था सखि॑भ्य इषि॒तो यदि॒न्द्रा दृ॒ळ्हं चि॒दरु॑जो॒ गव्य॑मू॒र्वम् ||

ná tvā gabhīráḥ puruhūta síndhur nā́drayaḥ pári ṣánto varanta itthā́ sákhibhya iṣitó yád indrā́ dr̥ḷháṁ cid árujo gávyam ūrvám

O Much-invoked Indra, neither the deep river nor the surrounding mountains can stop you! When you are inspired for your friends, you break even the strongest enclosures!

Stanza 3.32.17

शु॒नं हु॑वेम म॒घवा॑न॒मिन्द्र॑म॒स्मिन्भरे॒ नृत॑मं॒ वाज॑सातौ | शृ॒ण्वन्त॑मु॒ग्रमू॒तये॑ स॒मत्सु॒ घ्नन्तं॑ वृ॒त्राणि॑ सं॒जितं॒ धना॑नाम् ||

śunáṁ huvema maghávānam índram asmín bháre nŕ̥tamaṁ vā́jasātau śr̥ṇvántam ugrám ūtáye samátsu ghnántaṁ vr̥trā́ṇi saṁjítaṁ dhánānām

Let us call on auspicious and bountiful Indra! He is the best hero in wealth-gathering battles. The strong one who listens, for our help, who strikes down Vritras and wins riches!
