Stanza 2.3.1

समि॑द्धो अ॒ग्निर्निहि॑तः पृथि॒व्यां प्र॒त्यङ्विश्वा॑नि॒ भुव॑नान्यस्थात् | होता॑ पाव॒कः प्र॒दिवः॑ सुमे॒धा दे॒वो दे॒वान्य॑जत्व॒ग्निरर्ह॑न् ||

sámiddho agnír níhitaḥ pr̥thivyā́m pratyáṅ víśvāni bhúvanāny asthāt hótā pāvakáḥ pradívaḥ sumedhā́ devó devā́n yajatv agnír árhan

The fire, Agni, is set ablaze and established on the Earth. He stands facing all the worlds and beings. As the wise, ancient priest and purifier, may Agni, the divine one, perform the sacrifice to the gods, for he is deserving!

Stanza 2.3.2

नरा॒शंसः॒ प्रति॒ धामा॑न्य॒ञ्जन्ति॒स्रो दिवः॒ प्रति॑ म॒ह्ना स्व॒र्चिः | घृ॒त॒प्रुषा॒ मन॑सा ह॒व्यमु॒न्दन्मू॒र्धन्य॒ज्ञस्य॒ सम॑नक्तु दे॒वान् ||

nárāśáṁsaḥ práti dhā́māny añján tisró dívaḥ práti mahnā́ svarcíḥ ghr̥taprúṣā mánasā havyám undán mūrdhán yajñásya sám anaktu devā́n

May Narashamsa, who illuminates the dwelling places and shines with brilliant light across the three heavens, anoint the gods with ghee at the top of the sacrifice, by his greatness, and with his mind, may he bless the offering!

Stanza 2.3.3

ई॒ळि॒तो अ॑ग्ने॒ मन॑सा नो॒ अर्ह॑न्दे॒वान्य॑क्षि॒ मानु॑षा॒त्पूर्वो॑ अ॒द्य | स आ व॑ह म॒रुतां॒ शर्धो॒ अच्यु॑त॒मिन्द्रं॑ नरो बर्हि॒षदं॑ यजध्वम् ||

īḷitó agne mánasā no árhan devā́n yakṣi mā́nuṣāt pū́rvo adyá sá ā́ vaha marútāṁ śárdho ácyutam índraṁ naro barhiṣádaṁ yajadhvam

Agni, adored in our hearts and minds, worthy one, sacrifice to the gods for us today, before any mortal. Bring forth the mighty host of the Maruts! O people, worship Indra who is seated on the sacred grass!

Stanza 2.3.4

देव॑ बर्हि॒र्वर्ध॑मानं सु॒वीरं॑ स्ती॒र्णं रा॒ये सु॒भरं॒ वेद्य॒स्याम् | घृ॒तेना॒क्तं व॑सवः सीदते॒दं विश्वे॑ देवा आदित्या य॒ज्ञिया॑सः ||

déva barhir várdhamānaṁ suvī́raṁ stīrṇáṁ rāyé subháraṁ védy asyā́m ghr̥ténāktáṁ vasavaḥ sīdatedáṁ víśve devā ādityā yajñíyāsaḥ

O divine grass, growing and full of heroes! You are spread out on the altar, ready for wealth. Anointed with ghee, O Vasus, O all gods, O Adityas, please be seated here!

Stanza 2.3.5

वि श्र॑यन्तामुर्वि॒या हू॒यमा॑ना॒ द्वारो॑ दे॒वीः सु॑प्राय॒णा नमो॑भिः | व्यच॑स्वती॒र्वि प्र॑थन्तामजु॒र्या वर्णं॑ पुना॒ना य॒शसं॑ सु॒वीर॑म् ||

ví śrayantām urviyā́ hūyámānā dvā́ro devī́ḥ suprāyaṇā́ námobhiḥ vyácasvatīr ví prathantām ajuryā́ várṇam punānā́ yaśásaṁ suvī́ram

May the divine doors, when invoked with reverence, open wide for us easily. May these expansive, unaging doors open up, purifying our glorious and heroic lineage!

Stanza 2.3.6

सा॒ध्वपां॑सि स॒नता॑ न उक्षि॒ते उ॒षासा॒नक्ता॑ व॒य्ये॑व रण्वि॒ते | तन्तुं॑ त॒तं सं॒वय॑न्ती समी॒ची य॒ज्ञस्य॒ पेशः॑ सु॒दुघे॒ पय॑स्वती ||

sādhv ápāṁsi sanátā na ukṣité uṣā́sānáktā vayyèva raṇvité tántuṁ tatáṁ saṁváyantī samīcī́ yajñásya péśaḥ sudúghe páyasvatī

May Dawn and Night, ancient and joyful like weavers, perform their excellent work for us. Weaving together the stretched-out warp, the beautiful form of the sacrifice, they are like two milk-giving cows, full of abundance!

Stanza 2.3.7

दैव्या॒ होता॑रा प्रथ॒मा वि॒दुष्ट॑र ऋ॒जु य॑क्षतः॒ समृ॒चा व॒पुष्ट॑रा | दे॒वान्यज॑न्तावृतु॒था सम॑ञ्जतो॒ नाभा॑ पृथि॒व्या अधि॒ सानु॑षु त्रि॒षु ||

daívyā hótārā prathamā́ vidúṣṭara r̥jú yakṣataḥ sám r̥cā́ vapúṣṭarā devā́n yájantāv r̥tuthā́ sám añjato nā́bhā pr̥thivyā́ ádhi sā́nuṣu triṣú

May the two divine priests, the first and most knowing, perform the sacrifice rightly with the sacred verse. Worshipping the gods, may they anoint them at the right times, on the navel of the Earth, over the three high places!

Stanza 2.3.8

सर॑स्वती सा॒धय॑न्ती॒ धियं॑ न॒ इळा॑ दे॒वी भार॑ती वि॒श्वतू॑र्तिः | ति॒स्रो दे॒वीः स्व॒धया॑ ब॒र्हिरेदमच्छि॑द्रं पान्तु शर॒णं नि॒षद्य॑ ||

sárasvatī sādháyantī dhíyaṁ na íḷā devī́ bhā́ratī viśvátūrtiḥ tisró devī́ḥ svadháyā barhír édám áchidram pāntu śaraṇáṁ niṣádya

May Saraswati, who helps our devotion, the goddess Ila, and the all-encompassing Bharati—may these three goddesses, with their power, sit on this sacred grass and protect it as our faultless shelter!

Stanza 2.3.9

पि॒शङ्ग॑रूपः सु॒भरो॑ वयो॒धाः श्रु॒ष्टी वी॒रो जा॑यते दे॒वका॑मः | प्र॒जां त्वष्टा॒ वि ष्य॑तु॒ नाभि॑म॒स्मे अथा॑ दे॒वाना॒मप्ये॑तु॒ पाथः॑ ||

piśáṅgarūpaḥ subháro vayodhā́ḥ śruṣṭī́ vīró jāyate devákāmaḥ prajā́ṁ tváṣṭā ví ṣyatu nā́bhim asmé áthā devā́nām ápy etu pā́thaḥ

Born is the strong hero, radiant and life-giving, devoted to the gods! May Tvashtar, the divine maker, give us offspring, our connection to the divine realm, and may they reach the abode of the gods!

Stanza 2.3.10

वन॒स्पति॑रवसृ॒जन्नुप॑ स्थाद॒ग्निर्ह॒विः सू॑दयाति॒ प्र धी॒भिः | त्रिधा॒ सम॑क्तं नयतु प्रजा॒नन्दे॒वेभ्यो॒ दैव्यः॑ शमि॒तोप॑ ह॒व्यम् ||

vánaspátir avasr̥jánn úpa sthād agnír havíḥ sūdayāti prá dhībhíḥ trídhā sámaktaṁ nayatu prajānán devébhyo daívyaḥ śamitópa havyám

May Vanaspati (the sacrificial post) stand ready, and Agni, with his wisdom, prepare the offering. May the wise, divine officiant carry the thrice-anointed offering to the gods!

Stanza 2.3.11

घृ॒तं मि॑मिक्षे घृ॒तम॑स्य॒ योनि॑र्घृ॒ते श्रि॒तो घृ॒तम्व॑स्य॒ धाम॑ | अ॒नु॒ष्व॒धमा व॑ह मा॒दय॑स्व॒ स्वाहा॑कृतं वृषभ वक्षि ह॒व्यम् ||

ghr̥tám mimikṣe ghr̥tám asya yónir ghr̥té śritó ghr̥tám v asya dhā́ma anuṣvadhám ā́ vaha mādáyasva svā́hākr̥taṁ vr̥ṣabha vakṣi havyám

Ghee has been mixed; ghee is its home. It rests in ghee; ghee is its domain. Come, as is your custom! O strong one, rejoice! Carry the offering, consecrated with 'Svaha', to the gods!
