आ॒विर॑भू॒न्महि॒ माघो॑नमेषां॒ विश्वं॑ जी॒वं तम॑सो॒ निर॑मोचि | महि॒ ज्योतिः॑ पि॒तृभि॑र्द॒त्तमागा॑दु॒रुः पन्था॒ दक्षि॑णाया अदर्शि ||
āvír abhūn máhi mā́ghonam eṣāṁ víśvaṁ jīváṁ támaso nír amoci máhi jyótiḥ pitŕ̥bhir dattám ā́gād urúḥ pánthā dákṣiṇāyā adarśi
A great abundance has appeared, freeing all living beings from darkness. Great light, given by the ancestors, has arrived; the wide path of reward has become visible.
This verse celebrates the manifestation of a great, bountiful gift, which liberates all living beings from darkness. This divine light, bestowed by the ancestors, illuminates a clear and expansive path forward.

Generous people ascend high in the sky. Those who give horses are with the sun, and those who give gold achieve immortality. Those who give clothes prolong their life, O Soma.
Those who are generous (dakshinavantah) reside in high heavens. Those who give horses are with the sun, and those who give gold gain eternal life. Those who give clothes extend their lifespan. This is addressed to Soma, the divine drink.

Divine satisfaction and worship's bounty do not come from the miserly, for they do not give freely. But many men, fearing disgrace, offer gifts when they are generous.
