Stanza 1.44.1

अग्ने॒ विव॑स्वदु॒षस॑श्चि॒त्रं राधो॑ अमर्त्य | आ दा॒शुषे॑ जातवेदो वहा॒ त्वम॒द्या दे॒वाँ उ॑ष॒र्बुधः॑ ||

ágne vívasvad uṣásaś citráṁ rā́dho amartya ā́ dāśúṣe jātavedo vahā tvám adyā́ devā́m̐ uṣarbúdhaḥ

O Agni, immortal Jatavedas, brilliant gift of the dawn! Today, please bring the gods, who are awake with the morning, to the one who makes offerings.

Stanza 1.44.2

जुष्टो॒ हि दू॒तो असि॑ हव्य॒वाह॒नोऽग्ने॑ र॒थीर॑ध्व॒राणा॑म् | स॒जूर॒श्विभ्या॑मु॒षसा॑ सु॒वीर्य॑म॒स्मे धे॑हि॒ श्रवो॑ बृ॒हत् ||

júṣṭo hí dūtó ási havyavā́hanó 'gne rathī́r adhvarā́ṇām sajū́r aśvíbhyām uṣásā suvī́ryam asmé dhehi śrávo br̥hát

You are indeed a beloved messenger, Agni, carrying the offerings! You are the chariot of the sacrifices. With the Ashvins and the dawn, please grant us strength and abundant glory.

Stanza 1.44.3

अ॒द्या दू॒तं वृ॑णीमहे॒ वसु॑म॒ग्निं पु॑रुप्रि॒यम् | धू॒मके॑तुं॒ भाऋ॑जीकं॒ व्यु॑ष्टिषु य॒ज्ञाना॑मध्वर॒श्रिय॑म् ||

adyā́ dūtáṁ vr̥ṇīmahe vásum agním purupriyám dhūmáketum bhā́r̥jīkaṁ vyùṣṭiṣu yajñā́nām adhvaraśríyam

Today, we choose you, Agni, as our messenger! You are the beloved Vasu, the one with a smoke banner, brilliant at dawn, gracing our sacrifices.

Stanza 1.44.4

श्रेष्ठं॒ यवि॑ष्ठ॒मति॑थिं॒ स्वा॑हुतं॒ जुष्टं॒ जना॑य दा॒शुषे॑ | दे॒वाँ अच्छा॒ यात॑वे जा॒तवे॑दसम॒ग्निमी॑ळे॒ व्यु॑ष्टिषु ||

śréṣṭhaṁ yáviṣṭham átithiṁ svāā̀hutaṁ júṣṭaṁ jánāya dāśúṣe devā́m̐ áchā yā́tave jātávedasam agním īḷe vyùṣṭiṣu

I praise you, Agni Jatavedas, at dawn! You are the best, youngest guest, welcome to the offerers. May you go towards the gods.

Stanza 1.44.5

स्त॒वि॒ष्यामि॒ त्वाम॒हं विश्व॑स्यामृत भोजन | अग्ने॑ त्रा॒तार॑म॒मृतं॑ मियेध्य॒ यजि॑ष्ठं हव्यवाहन ||

staviṣyā́mi tvā́m aháṁ víśvasyāmr̥ta bhojana ágne trātā́ram amŕ̥tam miyedhya yájiṣṭhaṁ havyavāhana

I will praise you, Agni! You are the immortal food for the whole world, the protector, the best at sacrifice, and the bearer of offerings.

Stanza 1.44.6

सु॒शंसो॑ बोधि गृण॒ते य॑विष्ठ्य॒ मधु॑जिह्वः॒ स्वा॑हुतः | प्रस्क॑ण्वस्य प्रति॒रन्नायु॑र्जी॒वसे॑ नम॒स्या दैव्यं॒ जन॑म् ||

suśáṁso bodhi gr̥ṇaté yaviṣṭhya mádhujihvaḥ svāā̀hutaḥ práskaṇvasya pratiránn ā́yur jīváse namasyā́ daívyaṁ jánam

O youngest god, Agni, with your sweet tongue, speak well to me who praise you! You who are well-received, grant long life to Praskanva and honor the divine beings.

Stanza 1.44.7

होता॑रं वि॒श्ववे॑दसं॒ सं हि त्वा॒ विश॑ इ॒न्धते॑ | स आ व॑ह पुरुहूत॒ प्रचे॑त॒सोऽग्ने॑ दे॒वाँ इ॒ह द्र॒वत् ||

hótāraṁ viśvávedasaṁ sáṁ hí tvā víśa indháte sá ā́ vaha puruhūta prácetasó 'gne devā́m̐ ihá dravát

The people ignite you, Agni, the Hotri (invoking priest) and possessor of all wealth! Therefore, O much-invoked Agni, quickly bring the wise gods here.

Stanza 1.44.8

स॒वि॒तार॑मु॒षस॑म॒श्विना॒ भग॑म॒ग्निं व्यु॑ष्टिषु॒ क्षपः॑ | कण्वा॑सस्त्वा सु॒तसो॑मास इन्धते हव्य॒वाहं॑ स्वध्वर ||

savitā́ram uṣásam aśvínā bhágam agníṁ vyùṣṭiṣu kṣápaḥ káṇvāsas tvā sutásomāsa indhate havyavā́haṁ svadhvara

The Kanvas, with their Soma pressed, ignite you, Agni, the guardian in villages, the Purohita, the offering-bearer, the skilled one! Together with Savitr, Dawn, the Ashvins, and Bhaga, they worship you at dawn and night.

Stanza 1.44.9

पति॒र्ह्य॑ध्व॒राणा॒मग्ने॑ दू॒तो वि॒शामसि॑ | उ॒ष॒र्बुध॒ आ व॑ह॒ सोम॑पीतये दे॒वाँ अ॒द्य स्व॒र्दृशः॑ ||

pátir hy àdhvarā́ṇām ágne dūtó viśā́m ási uṣarbúdha ā́ vaha sómapītaye devā́m̐ adyá svardŕ̥śaḥ

Agni, you are indeed the lord of sacrifices and the messenger of the people! Therefore, bring the dawn-awakened gods, who shine like the sun, to drink Soma today.

Stanza 1.44.10

अग्ने॒ पूर्वा॒ अनू॒षसो॑ विभावसो दी॒देथ॑ वि॒श्वद॑र्शतः | असि॒ ग्रामे॑ष्ववि॒ता पु॒रोहि॒तोऽसि॑ य॒ज्ञेषु॒ मानु॑षः ||

ágne pū́rvā ánūṣáso vibhāvaso dīdétha viśvádarśataḥ ási grā́meṣv avitā́ puróhitó 'si yajñéṣu mā́nuṣaḥ

O Agni, rich in brilliance! You shone after the earlier dawns, visible to all. You are the protector in settlements, the Purohita, and the divine presence for humans in sacrifices.

Stanza 1.44.11

नि त्वा॑ य॒ज्ञस्य॒ साध॑न॒मग्ने॒ होता॑रमृ॒त्विज॑म् | म॒नु॒ष्वद्दे॑व धीमहि॒ प्रचे॑तसं जी॒रं दू॒तमम॑र्त्यम् ||

ní tvā yajñásya sā́dhanam ágne hótāram r̥tvíjam manuṣvád deva dhīmahi prácetasaṁ jīráṁ dūtám ámartyam

O Agni, divine one! Like Manu, we want to place you as the wise priest, the Hotri, the Rtvij, and the swift, immortal messenger for the sacrifice.

Stanza 1.44.12

यद्दे॒वानां॑ मित्रमहः पु॒रोहि॒तोऽन्त॑रो॒ यासि॑ दू॒त्य॑म् | सिन्धो॑रिव॒ प्रस्व॑नितास ऊ॒र्मयो॒ऽग्नेर्भ्रा॑जन्ते अ॒र्चयः॑ ||

yád devā́nām mitramahaḥ puróhitó 'ntaro yā́si dūtyàm síndhor iva prásvanitāsa ūrmáyo 'gnér bhrājante arcáyaḥ

When you, Agni, act as the gods' priest and messenger, your flames shine like the roaring waves of a river! O Mitra-like one, you go on your divine mission.

Stanza 1.44.13

श्रु॒धि श्रु॑त्कर्ण॒ वह्नि॑भिर्दे॒वैर॑ग्ने स॒याव॑भिः | आ सी॑दन्तु ब॒र्हिषि॑ मि॒त्रो अ॑र्य॒मा प्रा॑त॒र्यावा॑णो अध्व॒रम् ||

śrudhí śrutkarṇa váhnibhir devaír agne sayā́vabhiḥ ā́ sīdantu barhíṣi mitró aryamā́ prātaryā́vāṇo adhvarám

Hear me, O Agni, attentive-eared one, along with the gods who accompany you! May Mitra and Aryaman sit on the sacred grass, arriving early for the ceremony.

Stanza 1.44.14

शृ॒ण्वन्तु॒ स्तोमं॑ म॒रुतः॑ सु॒दान॑वोऽग्निजि॒ह्वा ऋ॑ता॒वृधः॑ | पिब॑तु॒ सोमं॒ वरु॑णो धृ॒तव्र॑तो॒ऽश्विभ्या॑मु॒षसा॑ स॒जूः ||

śr̥ṇvántu stómam marútaḥ sudā́navo 'gnijihvā́ r̥tāvŕ̥dhaḥ píbatu sómaṁ váruṇo dhr̥távrato 'śvíbhyām uṣásā sajū́ḥ

May the generous Maruts, with tongues of fire and upholders of order, hear my praise! May Varuna, whose vows are firm, drink the Soma with the Ashvins and Dawn.
