Stanza 1.178.1

यद्ध॒ स्या त॑ इन्द्र श्रु॒ष्टिरस्ति॒ यया॑ ब॒भूथ॑ जरि॒तृभ्य॑ ऊ॒ती | मा नः॒ कामं॑ म॒हय॑न्त॒मा ध॒ग्विश्वा॑ ते अश्यां॒ पर्याप॑ आ॒योः ||

yád dha syā́ ta indra śruṣṭír ásti yáyā babhū́tha jaritŕ̥bhya ūtī́ mā́ naḥ kā́mam maháyantam ā́ dhag víśvā te aśyām páry ā́pa āyóḥ

Indra, if you have that special ear for us, the one you used to help those who praised you, then please don't crush our desire for greatness. We want to experience everything you offer and give you all the devotion a human can.

Stanza 1.178.2

न घा॒ राजेन्द्र॒ आ द॑भन्नो॒ या नु स्वसा॑रा कृ॒णव॑न्त॒ योनौ॑ | आप॑श्चिदस्मै सु॒तुका॑ अवेष॒न्गम॑न्न॒ इन्द्रः॑ स॒ख्या वय॑श्च ||

ná ghā rā́jéndra ā́ dabhan no yā́ nú svásārā kr̥ṇávanta yónau ā́paś cid asmai sutúkā aveṣan gáman na índraḥ sakhyā́ váyaś ca

Hey Indra, our sovereign king, please don't let us down in what you're bringing to our home, like those two sisters. Even the fast-flowing waters have rushed towards you. May Indra come to us, bringing connection and life!

Stanza 1.178.3

जेता॒ नृभि॒रिन्द्रः॑ पृ॒त्सु शूरः॒ श्रोता॒ हवं॒ नाध॑मानस्य का॒रोः | प्रभ॑र्ता॒ रथं॑ दा॒शुष॑ उपा॒क उद्य॑न्ता॒ गिरो॒ यदि॑ च॒ त्मना॒ भूत् ||

jétā nŕ̥bhir índraḥ pr̥tsú śū́raḥ śrótā hávaṁ nā́dhamānasya kāróḥ prábhartā ráthaṁ dāśúṣa upāká údyantā gíro yádi ca tmánā bhū́t

Indra, the hero, is a winner in battles with his men! He's also a great listener, always hearing the prayers of those who are struggling. He brings his chariot near to those who offer gifts, especially if they are truly devoted with their songs.

Stanza 1.178.4

ए॒वा नृभि॒रिन्द्रः॑ सुश्रव॒स्या प्र॑खा॒दः पृ॒क्षो अ॒भि मि॒त्रिणो॑ भूत् | स॒म॒र्य इ॒षः स्त॑वते॒ विवा॑चि सत्राक॒रो यज॑मानस्य॒ शंसः॑ ||

evā́ nŕ̥bhir índraḥ suśravasyā́ prakhādáḥ pr̥kṣó abhí mitríṇo bhūt samaryá iṣá stavate vívāci satrākaró yájamānasya śáṁsaḥ

Just like this, Indra, with his allies, enjoys the offerings made by friends. The praise sung by the worshipper, who is always associated with Indra, is heard and celebrated, especially in the midst of action.

Stanza 1.178.5

त्वया॑ व॒यं म॑घवन्निन्द्र॒ शत्रू॑न॒भि ष्या॑म मह॒तो मन्य॑मानान् | त्वं त्रा॒ता त्वमु॑ नो वृ॒धे भू॑र्वि॒द्यामे॒षं वृ॒जनं॑ जी॒रदा॑नुम् ||

tváyā vayám maghavann indra śátrūn abhí ṣyāma maható mányamānān tváṁ trātā́ tvám u no vr̥dhé bhūr vidyā́meṣáṁ vr̥jánaṁ jīrádānum

With your help, Indra, our generous provider, may we defeat those enemies who feel so mighty! You are our protector, and you give us strength. Help us find abundant nourishment and thriving life!
