Stanza 1.145.1

तं पृ॑च्छता॒ स ज॑गामा॒ स वे॑द॒ स चि॑कि॒त्वाँ ई॑यते॒ सा न्वी॑यते | तस्मि॑न्त्सन्ति प्र॒शिष॒स्तस्मि॑न्नि॒ष्टयः॒ स वाज॑स्य॒ शव॑सः शु॒ष्मिण॒स्पतिः॑ ||

tám pr̥chatā sá jagāmā sá veda sá cikitvā́m̐ īyate sā́ nv īā̀yate tásmin santi praśíṣas tásminn iṣṭáyaḥ sá vā́jasya śávasaḥ śuṣmíṇas pátiḥ

Go ahead and ask him, because he's here and he knows! He, the wise one, is approached and respected. He holds the power of guidance and commands. He is the ultimate lord of strength and might.

Stanza 1.145.2

तमित्पृ॑च्छन्ति॒ न सि॒मो वि पृ॑च्छति॒ स्वेने॑व॒ धीरो॒ मन॑सा॒ यदग्र॑भीत् | न मृ॑ष्यते प्रथ॒मं नाप॑रं॒ वचो॒ऽस्य क्रत्वा॑ सचते॒ अप्र॑दृपितः ||

tám ít pr̥chanti ná simó ví pr̥chati svéneva dhī́ro mánasā yád ágrabhīt ná mr̥ṣyate prathamáṁ nā́paraṁ váco 'syá krátvā sacate ápradr̥pitaḥ

People ask him, but he doesn't ask them back. The wise one understands by grasping things with his own mind. He doesn't forget what he's learned, the first or the latest. He firmly holds onto his own understanding without getting rattled.

Stanza 1.145.3

तमिद्ग॑च्छन्ति जु॒ह्व१॒॑स्तमर्व॑ती॒र्विश्वा॒न्येकः॑ शृणव॒द्वचां॑सि मे | पु॒रु॒प्रै॒षस्ततु॑रिर्यज्ञ॒साध॒नोऽच्छि॑द्रोतिः॒ शिशु॒राद॑त्त॒ सं रभः॑ ||

tám íd gachanti juhvàs tám árvatīr víśvāny ékaḥ śr̥ṇavad vácāṁsi me purupraiṣás táturir yajñasā́dhanó 'chidrotiḥ śíśur ā́datta sáṁ rábhaḥ

Offerings and swift horses go to him. He alone can hear all my words. He, the one who performs many rites, the victor, the fulfiller of sacrifices, the flawless child, has embraced great power.

Stanza 1.145.4

उ॒प॒स्थायं॑ चरति॒ यत्स॒मार॑त स॒द्यो जा॒तस्त॑त्सार॒ युज्ये॑भिः | अ॒भि श्वा॒न्तं मृ॑शते ना॒न्द्ये॑ मु॒दे यदीं॒ गच्छ॑न्त्युश॒तीर॑पिष्ठि॒तम् ||

upasthā́yaṁ carati yát samā́rata sadyó jātás tatsāra yújyebhiḥ abhí śvāntám mr̥śate nāndyè mudé yád īṁ gáchanty uśatī́r apiṣṭhitám

He moves along to meet and interact. As soon as born, he moves with companions. He stirs the weary to joy and pleasure. When those who long for him approach, he stands firm.

Stanza 1.145.5

स ईं॑ मृ॒गो अप्यो॑ वन॒र्गुरुप॑ त्व॒च्यु॑प॒मस्यां॒ नि धा॑यि | व्य॑ब्रवीद्व॒युना॒ मर्त्ये॑भ्यो॒ऽग्निर्वि॒द्वाँ ऋ॑त॒चिद्धि स॒त्यः ||

sá īm mr̥gó ápyo vanargúr úpa tvacy ùpamásyāṁ ní dhāyi vy àbravīd vayúnā mártyebhyo 'gnír vidvā́m̐ r̥tacíd dhí satyáḥ

He, like a wild creature of water and forest, is placed in a supreme position. He has proclaimed wisdom to mortals. He is Agni, the knowing one, who is attuned to cosmic truth and is indeed truthful.
