Stanza 1.12.1

अ॒ग्निं दू॒तं वृ॑णीमहे॒ होता॑रं वि॒श्ववे॑दसम् | अ॒स्य य॒ज्ञस्य॑ सु॒क्रतु॑म् ||

agníṁ dūtáṁ vr̥ṇīmahe hótāraṁ viśvávedasam asyá yajñásya sukrátum

We choose Agni, the messenger and priest, who knows all things, as the skilled conductor of this sacrifice.

Stanza 1.12.2

अ॒ग्निम॑ग्निं॒ हवी॑मभिः॒ सदा॑ हवन्त वि॒श्पति॑म् | ह॒व्य॒वाहं॑ पुरुप्रि॒यम् ||

agním-agniṁ hávīmabhiḥ sádā havanta viśpátim havyavā́ham purupriyám

With offerings, we always call upon Agni, the lord of the community, the bearer of oblations, who is greatly beloved.

Stanza 1.12.3

अग्ने॑ दे॒वाँ इ॒हा व॑ह जज्ञा॒नो वृ॒क्तब॑र्हिषे | असि॒ होता॑ न॒ ईड्यः॑ ||

ágne devā́m̐ ihā́ vaha jajñānó vr̥ktábarhiṣe ási hótā na ī́ḍyaḥ

Agni, we call you! Please bring the gods here for us who have prepared the sacred grass. You are our priest, worthy of praise.

Stanza 1.12.4

ताँ उ॑श॒तो वि बो॑धय॒ यद॑ग्ने॒ यासि॑ दू॒त्य॑म् | दे॒वैरा स॑त्सि ब॒र्हिषि॑ ||

tā́m̐ uśató ví bodhaya yád agne yā́si dūtyàm devaír ā́ satsi barhíṣi

Please awaken the willing gods! When you go as a messenger, Agni, sit with the gods on the sacred grass.

Stanza 1.12.5

घृता॑हवन दीदिवः॒ प्रति॑ ष्म॒ रिष॑तो दह | अग्ने॒ त्वं र॑क्ष॒स्विनः॑ ||

ghŕ̥tāhavana dīdivaḥ práti ṣma ríṣato daha ágne tváṁ rakṣasvínaḥ

O Agni, who shines brightly with ghee offerings, burn up our enemies and those protected by evil forces!

Stanza 1.12.6

अ॒ग्निना॒ग्निः समि॑ध्यते क॒विर्गृ॒हप॑ति॒र्युवा॑ | ह॒व्य॒वाड्जु॒ह्वा॑स्यः ||

agnínāgníḥ sám idhyate kavír gr̥hápatir yúvā havyavā́ḍ juhvāā̀syaḥ

Agni ignites Agni. He is the wise poet, lord of the household, ever young, the bearer of offerings, with the ladle as his mouth.

Stanza 1.12.7

क॒विम॒ग्निमुप॑ स्तुहि स॒त्यध॑र्माणमध्व॒रे | दे॒वम॑मीव॒चात॑नम् ||

kavím agním úpa stuhi satyádharmāṇam adhvaré devám amīvacā́tanam

Praise Agni, the wise one, whose principles are true in the sacrifice. He is the god who removes sickness.

Stanza 1.12.8

यस्त्वाम॑ग्ने ह॒विष्प॑तिर्दू॒तं दे॑व सप॒र्यति॑ | तस्य॑ स्म प्रावि॒ता भ॑व ||

yás tvā́m agne havíṣpatir dūtáṁ deva saparyáti tásya sma prāvitā́ bhava

Agni, be the protector of the one who worships you as a messenger and lord of offerings.

Stanza 1.12.9

यो अ॒ग्निं दे॒ववी॑तये ह॒विष्माँ॑ आ॒विवा॑सति | तस्मै॑ पावक मृळय ||

yó agníṁ devávītaye havíṣmām̐ āvívāsati tásmai pāvaka mr̥ḷaya

O Agni, Purifier, be merciful to the one who offers you sacrificial food and invites you to the gods' feast.

Stanza 1.12.10

स नः॑ पावक दीदि॒वोऽग्ने॑ दे॒वाँ इ॒हा व॑ह | उप॑ य॒ज्ञं ह॒विश्च॑ नः ||

sá naḥ pāvaka dīdivó 'gne devā́m̐ ihā́ vaha úpa yajñáṁ havíś ca naḥ

O Agni, resplendent purifier, bring the gods here to our sacrifice and our offerings.

Stanza 1.12.11

स नः॒ स्तवा॑न॒ आ भ॑र गाय॒त्रेण॒ नवी॑यसा | र॒यिं वी॒रव॑ती॒मिष॑म् ||

sá na stávāna ā́ bhara gāyatréṇa návīyasā rayíṁ vīrávatīm íṣam

Agni, bring us riches and food, along with heroic children, through our new song in the Gayatri meter.

Stanza 1.12.12

अग्ने॑ शु॒क्रेण॑ शो॒चिषा॒ विश्वा॑भिर्दे॒वहू॑तिभिः | इ॒मं स्तोमं॑ जुषस्व नः ||

ágne śukréṇa śocíṣā víśvābhir deváhūtibhiḥ imáṁ stómaṁ juṣasva naḥ

Agni, with your bright flame and by bringing the gods, please accept our praise and offerings.
