Stanza 9.36.1
अस॑र्जि॒ रथ्यो॑ यथा प॒वित्रे॑ च॒म्वोः॑ सु॒तः | कार्ष्म॑न्वा॒जी न्य॑क्रमीत् ||
ásarji ráthyo yathā pavítre camvòḥ sutáḥ kā́rṣman vājī́ ny àkramīt
Like a chariot horse, it was released into the sieve, from the mortar into the two vessels. The potent essence moved forward into the trough.
This verse describes the process of Soma juice being extracted and prepared for ritual use. The juice is expressed, metaphorically like a chariot horse released, and filtered through a sieve (pavitra). It then moves towards the drinking vessels (camvoḥ) and into a specially prepared wooden trough (kārṣman). The 'Vajin' (likely a swift chariot or the Soma itself) moves forward, signifying the progression of the ritual and the readiness of the Soma.

O Soma, you who are the bearer and the watchful one, flow purified, cheering the gods, towards the sweet-dripping cup.

sá no jyótīṁṣi pūrvya pávamāna ví rocaya krátve dákṣāya no hinu
O ancient purifier, may you make the lights shine brightly for us. Drive us towards skill and ability.
The hymn continues to address Soma, here called 'Pavamana' (the purifier) and 'Purvya' (ancient, excellent). It is asked to make the lights (jyotimshi - possibly divine radiance or enlightenment) shine brightly for 'us' (naḥ - dative for 'us'). Furthermore, Soma is invoked to 'hinu' (drive, impel) 'us' towards 'krato' (skill, intellectual power) and 'daksha' (ability, energy). Adorning himself and being cleansed by the pious ones, Soma flows through the fibrous sieve, within the hands.

Soma, the 'Shumbhamana' (adorning himself, making beautiful) and 'Mrjyamanah' (being cleansed, being polished), is purified by those who are 'Ritajubhih' (following the cosmic order, pious). The filtering happens 'gabhyosti' (within the hands) and 'vare avyaye' (in the woolly or fibrous sieve), emphasizing the careful and meticulous nature of the ritual preparation.

O Soma, Lord of Strength, you ascend to the peak of the sky, seeking horses, cattle, and heroes.
