    Stanza 8.98.1

    इन्द्रा॑य॒ साम॑ गायत॒ विप्रा॑य बृह॒ते बृ॒हत् | ध॒र्म॒कृते॑ विप॒श्चिते॑ पन॒स्यवे॑ ||

    índrāya sā́ma gāyata víprāya br̥haté br̥hát dharmakŕ̥te vipaścíte panasyáve

    Sing the great Sama hymn to Indra, the wise one, the establisher of order, the intelligent, the praiseworthy.

    Stanza 8.98.2

    त्वमि॑न्द्राभि॒भूर॑सि॒ त्वं सूर्य॑मरोचयः | वि॒श्वक॑र्मा वि॒श्वदे॑वो म॒हाँ अ॑सि ||

    tvám indrābhibhū́r asi tváṁ sū́ryam arocayaḥ viśvákarmā viśvádevo mahā́m̐ asi

    You, Indra, are the supreme conqueror; you made the sun shine. You are the creator of all, the all-god, and you are mighty.

    Stanza 8.98.3

    वि॒भ्राज॒ञ्ज्योति॑षा॒ स्व१॒॑रग॑च्छो रोच॒नं दि॒वः | दे॒वास्त॑ इन्द्र स॒ख्याय॑ येमिरे ||

    vibhrā́jañ jyótiṣā svàr ágacho rocanáṁ diváḥ devā́s ta indra sakhyā́ya yemire

    Shining with light, you reached the heavenly, luminous abode. The gods sought your friendship, O Indra.

    Stanza 8.98.4

    एन्द्र॑ नो गधि प्रि॒यः स॑त्रा॒जिदगो॑ह्यः | गि॒रिर्न वि॒श्वत॑स्पृ॒थुः पति॑र्दि॒वः ||

    éndra no gadhi priyáḥ satrājíd ágohyaḥ girír ná viśvátas pr̥thúḥ pátir diváḥ

    Come to us, O Indra, our beloved, victorious, and unconquerable protector. You are vast like a mountain and the lord of heaven.

    Stanza 8.98.5

    अ॒भि हि स॑त्य सोमपा उ॒भे ब॒भूथ॒ रोद॑सी | इन्द्रासि॑ सुन्व॒तो वृ॒धः पति॑र्दि॒वः ||

    abhí hí satya somapā ubhé babhū́tha ródasī índrā́si sunvató vr̥dháḥ pátir diváḥ

    O truthful Soma-drinker, you have become greater than both worlds. You strengthen the sacrificer, O Indra, lord of heaven.

    Stanza 8.98.6

    त्वं हि शश्व॑तीना॒मिन्द्र॑ द॒र्ता पु॒रामसि॑ | ह॒न्ता दस्यो॒र्मनो॑र्वृ॒धः पति॑र्दि॒वः ||

    tváṁ hí śáśvatīnām índra dartā́ purā́m ási hantā́ dásyor mánor vr̥dháḥ pátir diváḥ

    For you, O Indra, are the breaker of many forts, the slayer of the Dasyus, the supporter of Manu (mankind). You are the lord of heaven.

    Stanza 8.98.7

    अधा॒ ही॑न्द्र गिर्वण॒ उप॑ त्वा॒ कामा॑न्म॒हः स॑सृ॒ज्महे॑ | उ॒देव॒ यन्त॑ उ॒दभिः॑ ||

    ádhā hīā̀ndra girvaṇa úpa tvā kā́mān maháḥ sasr̥jmáhe udéva yánta udábhiḥ

    Now, O Indra, friend of songs, we send our great desires to you, like flowing waters that follow each other.

    Stanza 8.98.8

    वार्ण त्वा॑ य॒व्याभि॒र्वर्ध॑न्ति शूर॒ ब्रह्मा॑णि | वा॒वृ॒ध्वांसं॑ चिदद्रिवो दि॒वेदि॑वे ||

    vā́r ṇá tvā yavyā́bhir várdhanti śūra bráhmāṇi vāvr̥dhvā́ṁsaṁ cid adrivo divé-dive

    As rivers swell, so our prayers increase you, O Hero. O Thunderer, you grow mighty day by day.

    Stanza 8.98.9

    यु॒ञ्जन्ति॒ हरी॑ इषि॒रस्य॒ गाथ॑यो॒रौ रथ॑ उ॒रुयु॑गे | इ॒न्द्र॒वाहा॑ वचो॒युजा॑ ||

    yuñjánti hárī iṣirásya gā́thayoraú rátha urúyuge indravā́hā vacoyújā

    They yoke the swift horses to the broad, wide-yoked chariot, bearers of Indra, yoked by sacred words.

    Stanza 8.98.10

    त्वं न॑ इ॒न्द्रा भ॑रँ॒ ओजो॑ नृ॒म्णं श॑तक्रतो विचर्षणे | आ वी॒रं पृ॑तना॒षह॑म् ||

    tváṁ na indrā́ bharam̐ ójo nr̥mṇáṁ śatakrato vicarṣaṇe ā́ vīrám pr̥tanāṣáham

    Bring us strength and power, O Indra, Śatakratu, discerning one. Bring us a hero who conquers in battle.

    Stanza 8.98.11

    त्वं हि नः॑ पि॒ता व॑सो॒ त्वं मा॒ता श॑तक्रतो ब॒भूवि॑थ | अधा॑ ते सु॒म्नमी॑महे ||

    tváṁ hí naḥ pitā́ vaso tvám mātā́ śatakrato babhū́vitha ádhā te sumnám īmahe

    You have been our father and mother, O Indra, Vasu, Śatakratu. Now we pray for your favor and bliss.

    Stanza 8.98.12

    त्वां शु॑ष्मिन्पुरुहूत वाज॒यन्त॒मुप॑ ब्रुवे शतक्रतो | स नो॑ रास्व सु॒वीर्य॑म् ||

    tvā́ṁ śuṣmin puruhūta vājayántam úpa bruve śatakrato sá no rāsva suvī́ryam

    To you, O mighty, much-invoked Indra, who shows your power, O Śatakratu, I call. Grant us heroic strength.
