Stanza 8.83.1
दे॒वाना॒मिदवो॑ म॒हत्तदा वृ॑णीमहे व॒यम् | वृष्णा॑म॒स्मभ्य॑मू॒तये॑ ||
devā́nām íd ávo mahát tád ā́ vr̥ṇīmahe vayám vŕ̥ṣṇām asmábhyam ūtáye
We choose for ourselves that great protection of the gods; may it aid and assist us.

You, O charioteers, help us pass over many dangers, like crossing waters in ships.
This is a plea for divine help in overcoming difficulties and dangers. The supplicants ask the gods to carry them safely through many troubles ('viṣpitā') and challenges, likening the act to crossing waters in a ship. The gods are invoked as 'rathyaḥ' (charioteers, guides) who can navigate these obstacles.
