Stanza 8.74.1

वि॒शोवि॑शो वो॒ अति॑थिं वाज॒यन्तः॑ पुरुप्रि॒यम् | अ॒ग्निं वो॒ दुर्यं॒ वचः॑ स्तु॒षे शू॒षस्य॒ मन्म॑भिः ||

viśó-viśo vo átithiṁ vājayántaḥ purupriyám agníṁ vo dúryaṁ váca stuṣé śūṣásya mánmabhiḥ

Energizing ourselves with strength, we praise you, O Agni, your beloved guest, with our minds and songs. We glorify you, O Agni, with our powerful hymns.

Stanza 8.74.2

यं जना॑सो ह॒विष्म॑न्तो मि॒त्रं न स॒र्पिरा॑सुतिम् | प्र॒शंस॑न्ति॒ प्रश॑स्तिभिः ||

yáṁ jánāso havíṣmanto mitráṁ ná sarpírāsutim praśáṁsanti práśastibhiḥ

Whom people, with offerings, praise with their praises, like Mitra with ghee-offerings, so do they praise him.

Stanza 8.74.3

पन्यां॑सं जा॒तवे॑दसं॒ यो दे॒वता॒त्युद्य॑ता | ह॒व्यान्यैर॑यद्दि॒वि ||

pányāṁsaṁ jātávedasaṁ yó devátāty údyatā havyā́ny aírayat diví

We praise the much-praised Jātavedas, who, when the offerings were raised, carried them to the gods in the sky.

Stanza 8.74.4

आग॑न्म वृत्र॒हन्त॑मं॒ ज्येष्ठ॑म॒ग्निमान॑वम् | यस्य॑ श्रु॒तर्वा॑ बृ॒हन्ना॒र्क्षो अनी॑क॒ एध॑ते ||

ā́ganma vr̥trahántamaṁ jyéṣṭham agním ā́navam yásya śrutárvā br̥hánn ārkṣó ánīka édhate

We have come to you, O Agni, the best slayer of Vritra, the greatest, and the Ānava. In your presence, Śrutavān and the mighty Ārṣaḥ grow.

Stanza 8.74.5

अ॒मृतं॑ जा॒तवे॑दसं ति॒रस्तमां॑सि दर्श॒तम् | घृ॒ताह॑वन॒मीड्य॑म् ||

amŕ̥taṁ jātávedasaṁ tirás támāṁsi darśatám ghr̥tā́havanam ī́ḍyam

The immortal Jātavedas, who pierces through darkness, worthy of praise, and accepting ghee offerings.

Stanza 8.74.6

स॒बाधो॒ यं जना॑ इ॒मे॒३॒॑ऽग्निं ह॒व्येभि॒रीळ॑ते | जुह्वा॑नासो य॒तस्रु॑चः ||

sabā́dho yáṁ jánā imè 'gníṁ havyébhir ī́ḷate júhvānāso yatásrucaḥ

Agni, whom these people worship with offerings, with ladles raised, as they offer them.

Stanza 8.74.7

इ॒यं ते॒ नव्य॑सी म॒तिरग्ने॒ अधा॑य्य॒स्मदा | मन्द्र॒ सुजा॑त॒ सुक्र॒तोऽमू॑र॒ दस्माति॑थे ||

iyáṁ te návyasī matír ágne ádhāyy asmád ā́ mándra sújāta súkrató 'mūra dásmā́tithe

This new hymn of ours, O Agni, has been offered to you. O cheerful, well-born, skillful, mighty, unwavering guest!

Stanza 8.74.8

सा ते॑ अग्ने॒ शंत॑मा॒ चनि॑ष्ठा भवतु प्रि॒या | तया॑ वर्धस्व॒ सुष्टु॑तः ||

sā́ te agne śáṁtamā cániṣṭhā bhavatu priyā́ táyā vardhasva súṣṭutaḥ

May this (hymn) be most beneficial, most delightful, and dear to you, O Agni. May you grow through this well-praised offering.

Stanza 8.74.9

सा द्यु॒म्नैर्द्यु॒म्निनी॑ बृ॒हदुपो॑प॒ श्रव॑सि॒ श्रवः॑ | दधी॑त वृत्र॒तूर्ये॑ ||

sā́ dyumnaír dyumnínī br̥hád úpopa śrávasi śrávaḥ dádhīta vr̥tratū́rye

May that (hymn) with splendors, O Agni, become glorious, and may you gain glory in battle against the foe.

Stanza 8.74.10

अश्व॒मिद्गां र॑थ॒प्रां त्वे॒षमिन्द्रं॒ न सत्प॑तिम् | यस्य॒ श्रवां॑सि॒ तूर्व॑थ॒ पन्य॑म्पन्यं च कृ॒ष्टयः॑ ||

áśvam íd gā́ṁ rathaprā́ṁ tveṣám índraṁ ná sátpatim yásya śrávāṁsi tū́rvatha pányam-panyaṁ ca kr̥ṣṭáyaḥ

Like a horse, a cow, a hero, and Indra, the radiant one. The people celebrate his fame and constantly praise his greatness.

Stanza 8.74.11

यं त्वा॑ गो॒पव॑नो गि॒रा चनि॑ष्ठदग्ने अङ्गिरः | स पा॑वक श्रुधी॒ हव॑म् ||

yáṁ tvā gopávano girā́ cániṣṭhad agne aṅgiraḥ sá pāvaka śrudhī hávam

Whom Gopavana gladdened with song, O Agni, O Angiras, O Purifier, hear our call.

Stanza 8.74.12

यं त्वा॒ जना॑स॒ ईळ॑ते स॒बाधो॒ वाज॑सातये | स बो॑धि वृत्र॒तूर्ये॑ ||

yáṁ tvā jánāsa ī́ḷate sabā́dho vā́jasātaye sá bodhi vr̥tratū́rye

Whom people invoke for gain, O Agni, be attentive in the battle against foes.

Stanza 8.74.13

अ॒हं हु॑वा॒न आ॒र्क्षे श्रु॒तर्व॑णि मद॒च्युति॑ | शर्धां॑सीव स्तुका॒विनां॑ मृ॒क्षा शी॒र्षा च॑तु॒र्णाम् ||

aháṁ huvāná ārkṣé śrutárvaṇi madacyúti śárdhāṁsīva stukāvínām mr̥kṣā́ śīrṣā́ caturṇā́m

I, called to the place of R̥ikṣa and Śrutavān, who are intoxicated, stroke the heads of four horses, like the wool of sheep.

Stanza 8.74.14

मां च॒त्वार॑ आ॒शवः॒ शवि॑ष्ठस्य द्रवि॒त्नवः॑ | सु॒रथा॑सो अ॒भि प्रयो॒ वक्ष॒न्वयो॒ न तुग्र्य॑म् ||

mā́ṁ catvā́ra āśávaḥ śáviṣṭhasya dravitnávaḥ suráthāso abhí práyo vákṣan váyo ná túgryam

May four swift horses, with excellent chariots, belonging to the mightiest one, carry me to the feast, like the flying horses carried Tugra's son.

Stanza 8.74.15

स॒त्यमित्त्वा॑ महेनदि॒ परु॒ष्ण्यव॑ देदिशम् | नेमा॑पो अश्व॒दात॑रः॒ शवि॑ष्ठादस्ति॒ मर्त्यः॑ ||

satyám ít tvā mahenadi páruṣṇy áva dediśam ném āpo aśvadā́taraḥ śáviṣṭhād asti mártyaḥ

I truthfully tell you, O Parushni, O waters: no mortal is a greater giver of horses than Savishtha.
