अग्न॒ आ या॑ह्य॒ग्निभि॒र्होता॑रं त्वा वृणीमहे | आ त्वाम॑नक्तु॒ प्रय॑ता ह॒विष्म॑ती॒ यजि॑ष्ठं ब॒र्हिरा॒सदे॑ ||
ágna ā́ yāhy agníbhir hótāraṁ tvā vr̥ṇīmahe ā́ tvā́m anaktu práyatā havíṣmatī yájiṣṭham barhír āsáde
Agni, come! With your fires, we choose you as our priest. Let the well-prepared offerings anoint you, as you sit on the sacred grass, O most worthy one to worship.

Indeed, towards you, O Angiras, son of Strength, the ladles move in the sacrifice. We seek you, O child of energy, with hair dripping ghee, O Agni, the foremost in rituals.

Agni, you are a poet, an organizer, the priest, and the purifier. You are joyous, the most worshipful, to be praised in sacrifices, and brilliant with the sages' hymns.

O eternal and most youthful Agni, bring the desirous gods to the feast. Come, O Vasu, to the well-prepared offerings; rejoice with our hymns.

Shine, most brilliant one! Blaze forth! Grant bliss to the people and to the singer. You are great. May my singers, who conquer foes and possess good fires, be in the gods' protection.
This verse is a fervent prayer to Agni, urging him to shine brightly. Just as fire burns down the grown forest, so, O Mitra-like Agni, burn him who harms us and plots evil, whoever he may be.

Agni, purifier, give us wealth that strengthens life and is renowned. And, O helper, grant us the greatly desired, best guided, and most glorious.

By which we may overcome rivals in battles and conquer the enemy's plans. So, O excellent one, grow us with food and quicken our thoughts that find wealth.
