Stanza 8.45.1

आ घा॒ ये अ॒ग्निमि॑न्ध॒ते स्तृ॒णन्ति॑ ब॒र्हिरा॑नु॒षक् | येषा॒मिन्द्रो॒ युवा॒ सखा॑ ||

ā́ ghā yé agním indhaté str̥ṇánti barhír ānuṣák yéṣām índro yúvā sákhā

Hither! To those who light the fire and diligently arrange the sacred grass, for them, indeed, Indra, the ever-young, is a friend.

Stanza 8.45.2

बृ॒हन्निदि॒ध्म ए॑षां॒ भूरि॑ श॒स्तं पृ॒थुः स्वरुः॑ | येषा॒मिन्द्रो॒ युवा॒ सखा॑ ||

br̥hánn íd idhmá eṣām bhū́ri śastám pr̥thúḥ sváruḥ yéṣām índro yúvā sákhā

Their fuel is great, their praise is abundant, their offering is wide; for them, indeed, Indra, the youthful, is a friend.

Stanza 8.45.3

अयु॑द्ध॒ इद्यु॒धा वृतं॒ शूर॒ आज॑ति॒ सत्व॑भिः | येषा॒मिन्द्रो॒ युवा॒ सखा॑ ||

áyuddha íd yudhā́ vŕ̥taṁ śū́ra ā́jati sátvabhiḥ yéṣām índro yúvā sákhā

Unequaled in battle, the hero leads the fight with his strength; for them, indeed, Indra, the youthful, is a friend.

Stanza 8.45.4

आ बु॒न्दं वृ॑त्र॒हा द॑दे जा॒तः पृ॑च्छ॒द्वि मा॒तर॑म् | क उ॒ग्राः के ह॑ शृण्विरे ||

ā́ bundáṁ vr̥trahā́ dade jātáḥ pr̥chad ví mātáram ká ugrā́ḥ ké ha śr̥ṇvire

The newly born one seized the shaft and asked his mother: Who are the mighty, and who are heard of?

Stanza 8.45.5

प्रति॑ त्वा शव॒सी व॑दद्गि॒रावप्सो॒ न यो॑धिषत् | यस्ते॑ शत्रु॒त्वमा॑च॒के ||

práti tvā śavasī́ vadad girā́v ápso ná yodhiṣat yás te śatrutvám ācaké

Śavasī responded to you: He who seeks enmity with you will fight like an elephant on a mountain.

Stanza 8.45.6

उ॒त त्वं म॑घवञ्छृणु॒ यस्ते॒ वष्टि॑ व॒वक्षि॒ तत् | यद्वी॒ळया॑सि वी॒ळु तत् ||

utá tvám maghavañ chr̥ṇu yás te váṣṭi vavákṣi tát yád vīḷáyāsi vīḷú tát

And you, O Maghavan, hear: what you desire, that you achieve; whatever you make firm, is firm.

Stanza 8.45.7

यदा॒जिं यात्या॑जि॒कृदिन्द्रः॑ स्वश्व॒युरुप॑ | र॒थीत॑मो र॒थीना॑म् ||

yád ājíṁ yā́ty ājikŕ̥d índraḥ svaśvayúr úpa rathī́tamo rathī́nām

When the Vritra-slayer Indra goes to battle, with excellent horses, he is the foremost of charioteers.

Stanza 8.45.8

वि षु विश्वा॑ अभि॒युजो॒ वज्रि॒न्विष्व॒ग्यथा॑ वृह | भवा॑ नः सु॒श्रव॑स्तमः ||

ví ṣú víśvā abhiyújo vájrin víṣvag yáthā vr̥ha bhávā naḥ suśrávastamaḥ

O thunder-armed one, repel all enemies from every side; be our most glorious protector.

Stanza 8.45.9

अ॒स्माकं॒ सु रथं॑ पु॒र इन्द्रः॑ कृणोतु सा॒तये॑ | न यं धूर्व॑न्ति धू॒र्तयः॑ ||

asmā́kaṁ sú rátham purá índraḥ kr̥ṇotu sātáye ná yáṁ dhū́rvanti dhūrtáyaḥ

May Indra place our chariot in front for victory, whom the deceivers do not harm.

Stanza 8.45.10

वृ॒ज्याम॑ ते॒ परि॒ द्विषोऽरं॑ ते शक्र दा॒वने॑ | ग॒मेमेदि॑न्द्र॒ गोम॑तः ||

vr̥jyā́ma te pári dvíṣó 'raṁ te śakra dāváne gaméméd indra gómataḥ

May we escape your enmity; O Śakra, may we come near for your bounty.

Stanza 8.45.11

शनै॑श्चि॒द्यन्तो॑ अद्रि॒वोऽश्वा॑वन्तः शत॒ग्विनः॑ | वि॒वक्ष॑णा अने॒हसः॑ ||

śánaiś cid yánto adrivó 'śvāvantaḥ śatagvínaḥ vivákṣaṇā anehásaḥ

Approaching gently, O you of great wealth, with horses, with hundreds of riches, unmatched, ready with gifts.

Stanza 8.45.12

ऊ॒र्ध्वा हि ते॑ दि॒वेदि॑वे स॒हस्रा॑ सू॒नृता॑ श॒ता | ज॒रि॒तृभ्यो॑ वि॒मंह॑ते ||

ūrdhvā́ hí te divé-dive sahásrā sūnŕ̥tā śatā́ jaritŕ̥bhyo vimáṁhate

For your exalted nature, O Indra, brings thousands of blessings and hundreds of praises to the singers each day.

Stanza 8.45.13

वि॒द्मा हि त्वा॑ धनंज॒यमिन्द्र॑ दृ॒ळ्हा चि॑दारु॒जम् | आ॒दा॒रिणं॒ यथा॒ गय॑म् ||

vidmā́ hí tvā dhanaṁjayám índra dr̥ḷhā́ cid ārujám ādāríṇaṁ yáthā gáyam

Indra, we know you as the wealth-winner, the breaker of strong things, like one who conquers wealth.

Stanza 8.45.14

क॒कु॒हं चि॑त्त्वा कवे॒ मन्द॑न्तु धृष्ण॒विन्द॑वः | आ त्वा॑ प॒णिं यदीम॑हे ||

kakuháṁ cit tvā kave mándantu dhr̥ṣṇav índavaḥ ā́ tvā paṇíṁ yád ī́mahe

Though you are the highest Sage, O Bold one, let the Soma drops cheer you, as we approach you like a merchant.

Stanza 8.45.15

यस्ते॑ रे॒वाँ अदा॑शुरिः प्रम॒मर्ष॑ म॒घत्त॑ये | तस्य॑ नो॒ वेद॒ आ भ॑र ||

yás te revā́m̐ ádāśuriḥ pramamárṣa magháttaye tásya no véda ā́ bhara

Bring to us the wealth of the opulent one who, not giving, overlooked you for wealth.

Stanza 8.45.16

इ॒म उ॑ त्वा॒ वि च॑क्षते॒ सखा॑य इन्द्र सो॒मिनः॑ | पु॒ष्टाव॑न्तो॒ यथा॑ प॒शुम् ||

imá u tvā ví cakṣate sákhāya indra somínaḥ puṣṭā́vanto yáthā paśúm

These friends of yours, Indra, supplied with Soma, look to you, as they provide for the cattle.

Stanza 8.45.17

उ॒त त्वाब॑धिरं व॒यं श्रुत्क॑र्णं॒ सन्त॑मू॒तये॑ | दू॒रादि॒ह ह॑वामहे ||

utá tvā́badhiraṁ vayáṁ śrútkarṇaṁ sántam ūtáye dūrā́d ihá havāmahe

And you, O Indra, not deaf, with attentive ears, we call to you from afar for our aid.

Stanza 8.45.18

यच्छु॑श्रू॒या इ॒मं हवं॑ दु॒र्मर्षं॑ चक्रिया उ॒त | भवे॑रा॒पिर्नो॒ अन्त॑मः ||

yác chuśrūyā́ imáṁ hávaṁ durmárṣaṁ cakriyā utá bháver āpír no ántamaḥ

When you have listened to this call, make it unforgettable; and be our very nearest friend.

Stanza 8.45.19

यच्चि॒द्धि ते॒ अपि॒ व्यथि॑र्जग॒न्वांसो॒ अम॑न्महि | गो॒दा इदि॑न्द्र बोधि नः ||

yác cid dhí te ápi vyáthir jaganvā́ṁso ámanmahi godā́ íd indra bodhi naḥ

Even when we have been in trouble, we have thought of you, O Indra, giver of cows; awaken to us.

Stanza 8.45.20

आ त्वा॑ र॒म्भं न जिव्र॑यो रर॒भ्मा श॑वसस्पते | उ॒श्मसि॑ त्वा स॒धस्थ॒ आ ||

ā́ tvā rambháṁ ná jívrayo rarabhmā́ śavasas pate uśmási tvā sadhástha ā́

Lord of Strength, we take refuge in you like the old on a staff; we desire you to dwell with us.

Stanza 8.45.21

स्तो॒त्रमिन्द्रा॑य गायत पुरुनृ॒म्णाय॒ सत्व॑ने | नकि॒र्यं वृ॑ण्व॒ते यु॒धि ||

stotrám índrāya gāyata purunr̥mṇā́ya sátvane nákir yáṁ vr̥ṇvaté yudhí

Sing a hymn to Indra, the mighty hero, whom no one challenges in battle.

Stanza 8.45.22

अ॒भि त्वा॑ वृषभा सु॒ते सु॒तं सृ॑जामि पी॒तये॑ | तृ॒म्पा व्य॑श्नुही॒ मद॑म् ||

abhí tvā vr̥ṣabhā suté sutáṁ sr̥jāmi pītáye tr̥mpā́ vy àśnuhī mádam

O Bull, I pour the Soma for you to drink; be satisfied and fully enjoy the exhilaration.

Stanza 8.45.23

मा त्वा॑ मू॒रा अ॑वि॒ष्यवो॒ मोप॒हस्वा॑न॒ आ द॑भन् | माकीं॑ ब्रह्म॒द्विषो॑ वनः ||

mā́ tvā mūrā́ aviṣyávo mópahásvāna ā́ dabhan mā́kīm brahmadvíṣo vanaḥ

Let not the foolish, nor those who mock, deceive you when seeking your aid; do not favor the enemies of prayer.

Stanza 8.45.24

इ॒ह त्वा॒ गोप॑रीणसा म॒हे म॑न्दन्तु॒ राध॑से | सरो॑ गौ॒रो यथा॑ पिब ||

ihá tvā góparīṇasā mahé mandantu rā́dhase sáro gauró yáthā piba

Here, O Indra, let them cheer you with rich milk for great bounty, as the wild bull drinks from the lake.

Stanza 8.45.25

या वृ॑त्र॒हा प॑रा॒वति॒ सना॒ नवा॑ च चुच्यु॒वे | ता सं॒सत्सु॒ प्र वो॑चत ||

yā́ vr̥trahā́ parāváti sánā návā ca cucyuvé tā́ saṁsátsu prá vocata

Proclaim in assemblies his deeds, old and new, that the Vritra-slayer has accomplished far away.

Stanza 8.45.26

अपि॑बत्क॒द्रुवः॑ सु॒तमिन्द्रः॑ स॒हस्र॑बाह्वे | अत्रा॑देदिष्ट॒ पौंस्य॑म् ||

ápibat kadrúvaḥ sutám índraḥ sahásrabāhve átrādediṣṭa paúṁsyam

Indra drank the Soma juice in the battle of a thousand arms; there he displayed his might.

Stanza 8.45.27

स॒त्यं तत्तु॒र्वशे॒ यदौ॒ विदा॑नो अह्नवा॒य्यम् | व्या॑नट् तु॒र्वणे॒ शमि॑ ||

satyáṁ tát turváśe yádau vídāno ahnavāyyám vy āā̀naṭ turváṇe śámi

That true strength, which he found among Yadu and Turvaśa, he used for victory and protection.

Stanza 8.45.28

त॒रणिं॑ वो॒ जना॑नां त्र॒दं वाज॑स्य॒ गोम॑तः | स॒मा॒नमु॒ प्र शं॑सिषम् ||

taráṇiṁ vo jánānāṁ tradáṁ vā́jasya gómataḥ samānám u prá śaṁsiṣam

I have magnified him, the lord of people, the guardian of wealth, the possessor of cattle.

Stanza 8.45.29

ऋ॒भु॒क्षणं॒ न वर्त॑व उ॒क्थेषु॑ तुग्र्या॒वृध॑म् | इन्द्रं॒ सोमे॒ सचा॑ सु॒ते ||

r̥bhukṣáṇaṁ ná vártava ukthéṣu tugryāvŕ̥dham índraṁ sóme sácā suté

The unstoppable R̥bhukṣaṇa, who strengthened Tugra's son, praised beside the Soma juice.

Stanza 8.45.30

यः कृ॒न्तदिद्वि यो॒न्यं त्रि॒शोका॑य गि॒रिं पृ॒थुम् | गोभ्यो॑ गा॒तुं निरे॑तवे ||

yáḥ kr̥ntád íd ví yonyáṁ triśókāya girím pr̥thúm góbhyo gātúṁ níretave

He who cut the mountain for Triśoka, wide and open, to let the cows pass out.

Stanza 8.45.31

यद्द॑धि॒षे म॑न॒स्यसि॑ मन्दा॒नः प्रेदिय॑क्षसि | मा तत्क॑रिन्द्र मृ॒ळय॑ ||

yád dadhiṣé manasyási mandānáḥ préd íyakṣasi mā́ tát kar indra mr̥ḷáya

Whatever you intend or desire, O Indra, when exhilarated, do not do that; rather, be merciful to us.

Stanza 8.45.32

द॒भ्रं चि॒द्धि त्वाव॑तः कृ॒तं शृ॒ण्वे अधि॒ क्षमि॑ | जिगा॑त्विन्द्र ते॒ मनः॑ ||

dabhráṁ cid dhí tvā́vataḥ kr̥táṁ śr̥ṇvé ádhi kṣámi jígātv indra te mánaḥ

Little has been heard of deeds done by one like you on Earth; may your mind, O Indra, turn to us.

Stanza 8.45.33

तवेदु॒ ताः सु॑की॒र्तयोऽस॑न्नु॒त प्रश॑स्तयः | यदि॑न्द्र मृ॒ळया॑सि नः ||

távéd u tā́ḥ sukīrtáyó 'sann utá práśastayaḥ yád indra mr̥ḷáyāsi naḥ

Indeed, those praises and fame shall be yours, O Indra, if you are kind to us.

Stanza 8.45.34

मा न॒ एक॑स्मि॒न्नाग॑सि॒ मा द्वयो॑रु॒त त्रि॒षु | वधी॒र्मा शू॑र॒ भूरि॑षु ||

mā́ na ékasminn ā́gasi mā́ dváyor utá triṣú vádhīr mā́ śūra bhū́riṣu

O Hero, do not destroy us for one, nor two, nor three, nor many transgressions.

Stanza 8.45.35

बि॒भया॒ हि त्वाव॑त उ॒ग्राद॑भिप्रभ॒ङ्गिणः॑ | द॒स्माद॒हमृ॑ती॒षहः॑ ||

bibháyā hí tvā́vata ugrā́d abhiprabhaṅgíṇaḥ dasmā́d ahám r̥tīṣáhaḥ

Indeed, I fear one like you, the mighty crusher of enemies, the formidable one.

Stanza 8.45.36

मा सख्युः॒ शून॒मा वि॑दे॒ मा पु॒त्रस्य॑ प्रभूवसो | आ॒वृत्व॑द्भूतु ते॒ मनः॑ ||

mā́ sákhyuḥ śū́nam ā́ vide mā́ putrásya prabhūvaso āvŕ̥tvad bhūtu te mánaḥ

O wealthy god, may I never see my friend or son in need; may your mind turn to us.

Stanza 8.45.37

को नु म॑र्या॒ अमि॑थितः॒ सखा॒ सखा॑यमब्रवीत् | ज॒हा को अ॒स्मदी॑षते ||

kó nú maryā ámithitaḥ sákhā sákhāyam abravīt jahā́ kó asmád īṣate

What person, unprovoked, has ever said to a friend, 'He abandons us?'

Stanza 8.45.38

ए॒वारे॑ वृषभा सु॒तेऽसि॑न्व॒न्भूर्या॑वयः | श्व॒घ्नीव॑ नि॒वता॒ चर॑न् ||

evā́re vr̥ṣabhā suté 'sinvan bhū́ry āvayaḥ śvaghnī́va nivátā cáran

O Bull, enjoy the Soma juice near you, like a hunter rushing down.

Stanza 8.45.39

आ त॑ ए॒ता व॑चो॒युजा॒ हरी॑ गृभ्णे सु॒मद्र॑था | यदीं॑ ब्र॒ह्मभ्य॒ इद्ददः॑ ||

ā́ ta etā́ vacoyújā hárī gr̥bhṇe sumádrathā yád īm brahmábhya íd dádaḥ

I draw your bay horses, yoked by hymns and a splendid chariot, that you may give to the priests.

Stanza 8.45.40

भि॒न्धि विश्वा॒ अप॒ द्विषः॒ परि॒ बाधो॑ ज॒ही मृधः॑ | वसु॑ स्पा॒र्हं तदा भ॑र ||

bhindhí víśvā ápa dvíṣaḥ pári bā́dho jahī́ mŕ̥dhaḥ vásu spārháṁ tád ā́ bhara

O Indra, destroy all enemies, repel the obstacles, slay the foes, and bring the desired wealth.

Stanza 8.45.41

यद्वी॒ळावि॑न्द्र॒ यत्स्थि॒रे यत्पर्शा॑ने॒ परा॑भृतम् | वसु॑ स्पा॒र्हं तदा भ॑र ||

yád vīḷā́v indra yát sthiré yát párśāne párābhr̥tam vásu spārháṁ tád ā́ bhara

O Indra, bring the desired wealth, whether hidden in a firm or precipitous place.

Stanza 8.45.42

यस्य॑ ते वि॒श्वमा॑नुषो॒ भूरे॑र्द॒त्तस्य॒ वेद॑ति | वसु॑ स्पा॒र्हं तदा भ॑र ||

yásya te viśvámānuṣo bhū́rer dattásya védati vásu spārháṁ tád ā́ bhara

The wealth which the wealth-winner, known by all humanity, has given, bring that desired wealth.
