Stanza 8.12.1

य इ॑न्द्र सोम॒पात॑मो॒ मदः॑ शविष्ठ॒ चेत॑ति | येना॒ हंसि॒ न्य१॒॑त्रिणं॒ तमी॑महे ||

yá indra somapā́tamo mádaḥ śaviṣṭha cétati yénā háṁsi ny àtríṇaṁ tám īmahe

We invoke you, O Indra, mightiest Indra, who are most powerful from drinking Soma, by which strength you destroy the enemy; for you we long.

Stanza 8.12.2

येना॒ दश॑ग्व॒मध्रि॑गुं वे॒पय॑न्तं॒ स्व॑र्णरम् | येना॑ समु॒द्रमावि॑था॒ तमी॑महे ||

yénā dáśagvam ádhriguṁ vepáyantaṁ svàrṇaram yénā samudrám ā́vithā tám īmahe

By which (strength) you made the great Dashagva, Adhrigu, and the one who stirs the sky tremble, and by which you protected the ocean, for that (strength) we long.

Stanza 8.12.3

येन॒ सिन्धुं॑ म॒हीर॒पो रथाँ॑ इव प्रचो॒दयः॑ | पन्था॑मृ॒तस्य॒ यात॑वे॒ तमी॑महे ||

yéna síndhum mahī́r apó ráthām̐ iva pracodáyaḥ pánthām r̥tásya yā́tave tám īmahe

By which (strength) you propelled the river and the mighty waters, like chariots, for the journey on the path of order; for that (strength) we long.

Stanza 8.12.4

इ॒मं स्तोम॑म॒भिष्ट॑ये घृ॒तं न पू॒तम॑द्रिवः | येना॒ नु स॒द्य ओज॑सा व॒वक्षि॑थ ||

imáṁ stómam abhíṣṭaye ghr̥táṁ ná pūtám adrivaḥ yénā nú sadyá ójasā vavákṣitha

Accept this praise for your aid, O Indra, caster of the stone, which is pure like ghee; by that (power) you have indeed recently grown strong with energy.

Stanza 8.12.5

इ॒मं जु॑षस्व गिर्वणः समु॒द्र इ॑व पिन्वते | इन्द्र॒ विश्वा॑भिरू॒तिभि॑र्व॒वक्षि॑थ ||

imáṁ juṣasva girvaṇaḥ samudrá iva pinvate índra víśvābhir ūtíbhir vavákṣitha

Be pleased with this hymn, O Indra, lover of songs; it flows abundantly like the ocean. O Indra, with all your aids, you have grown strong.

Stanza 8.12.6

यो नो॑ दे॒वः प॑रा॒वतः॑ सखित्व॒नाय॑ माम॒हे | दि॒वो न वृ॒ष्टिं प्र॒थय॑न्व॒वक्षि॑थ ||

yó no deváḥ parāvátaḥ sakhitvanā́ya māmahé divó ná vr̥ṣṭím pratháyan vavákṣitha

The god who, from afar, for friendship, has bestowed (gifts); like rain from the sky, you have spread (them) and grown strong.

Stanza 8.12.7

व॒व॒क्षुर॑स्य के॒तव॑ उ॒त वज्रो॒ गभ॑स्त्योः | यत्सूर्यो॒ न रोद॑सी॒ अव॑र्धयत् ||

vavakṣúr asya ketávo utá vájro gábhastyoḥ yát sū́ryo ná ródasī ávardhayat

His (Indra's) rays have grown strong, and the thunderbolt (rests) in his hands; when, like the Sun, you increased both Heaven and Earth.

Stanza 8.12.8

यदि॑ प्रवृद्ध सत्पते स॒हस्रं॑ महि॒षाँ अघः॑ | आदित्त॑ इन्द्रि॒यं महि॒ प्र वा॑वृधे ||

yádi pravr̥ddha satpate sahásram mahiṣā́m̐ ághaḥ ā́d ít ta indriyám máhi prá vāvr̥dhe

If, O greatly grown, Lord of heroes, you consumed a thousand buffaloes, then indeed your Indra-power greatly increased.

Stanza 8.12.9

इन्द्रः॒ सूर्य॑स्य र॒श्मिभि॒र्न्य॑र्शसा॒नमो॑षति | अ॒ग्निर्वने॑व सास॒हिः प्र वा॑वृधे ||

índraḥ sū́ryasya raśmíbhir ny àrśasānám oṣati agnír váneva sāsahíḥ prá vāvr̥dhe

Indra consumes the wicked man with the sun's rays; like Agni in the forest, he has grown strong.

Stanza 8.12.10

इ॒यं त॑ ऋ॒त्विया॑वती धी॒तिरे॑ति॒ नवी॑यसी | स॒प॒र्यन्ती॑ पुरुप्रि॒या मिमी॑त॒ इत् ||

iyáṁ ta r̥tvíyāvatī dhītír eti návīyasī saparyántī purupriyā́ mímīta ít

This timely thought of yours comes, ever new, serving, and is beloved by many; it perceives and measures well.

Stanza 8.12.11

गर्भो॑ य॒ज्ञस्य॑ देव॒युः क्रतुं॑ पुनीत आनु॒षक् | स्तोमै॒रिन्द्र॑स्य वावृधे॒ मिमी॑त॒ इत् ||

gárbho yajñásya devayúḥ krátum punīta ānuṣák stómair índrasya vāvr̥dhe mímīta ít

The germ of sacrifice, devoted to the gods, purifies the ritual intention; by hymns, it grows with Indra and measures well.

Stanza 8.12.12

स॒निर्मि॒त्रस्य॑ पप्रथ॒ इन्द्रः॒ सोम॑स्य पी॒तये॑ | प्राची॒ वाशी॑व सुन्व॒ते मिमी॑त॒ इत् ||

sanír mitrásya papratha índraḥ sómasya pītáye prā́cī vā́śīva sunvaté mímīta ít

Indra, winning the friend, has spread forth for drinking Soma; like praise, he flows forth and measures well.

Stanza 8.12.13

यं विप्रा॑ उ॒क्थवा॑हसोऽभिप्रम॒न्दुरा॒यवः॑ | घृ॒तं न पि॑प्य आ॒सन्यृ॒तस्य॒ यत् ||

yáṁ víprā ukthávāhaso 'bhipramandúr āyávaḥ ghr̥táṁ ná pipya āsány r̥tásya yát

When the sages, the wise, have gladdened him with hymns and offerings, he swells like ghee in the sacred place, at the center of order.

Stanza 8.12.14

उ॒त स्व॒राजे॒ अदि॑तिः॒ स्तोम॒मिन्द्रा॑य जीजनत् | पु॒रु॒प्र॒श॒स्तमू॒तय॑ ऋ॒तस्य॒ यत् ||

utá svarā́je áditi stómam índrāya jījanat purupraśastám ūtáya r̥tásya yát

Aditi also brought forth this praise for sovereign Indra, for your aid; this widely praised offering is part of the order.

Stanza 8.12.15

अ॒भि वह्न॑य ऊ॒तयेऽनू॑षत॒ प्रश॑स्तये | न दे॑व॒ विव्र॑ता॒ हरी॑ ऋ॒तस्य॒ यत् ||

abhí váhnaya ūtáyé 'nūṣata práśastaye ná deva vívratā hárī r̥tásya yát

The offering priests have sung for aid and praise; O God, your two chariots do not turn away from the ritual order.

Stanza 8.12.16

यत्सोम॑मिन्द्र॒ विष्ण॑वि॒ यद्वा॑ घ त्रि॒त आ॒प्त्ये | यद्वा॑ म॒रुत्सु॒ मन्द॑से॒ समिन्दु॑भिः ||

yát sómam indra víṣṇavi yád vā gha tritá āptyé yád vā marútsu mándase sám índubhiḥ

If, Indra, you drink Soma with Vishnu, or with Trita Aptya, or with the Maruts, you rejoice in the flowing drops.

Stanza 8.12.17

यद्वा॑ शक्र परा॒वति॑ समु॒द्रे अधि॒ मन्द॑से | अ॒स्माक॒मित्सु॒ते र॑णा॒ समिन्दु॑भिः ||

yád vā śakra parāváti samudré ádhi mándase asmā́kam ít suté raṇā sám índubhiḥ

Or, O Shakra, if you rejoice afar, or in the ocean (of air), or in this offered juice with drops.

Stanza 8.12.18

यद्वासि॑ सुन्व॒तो वृ॒धो यज॑मानस्य सत्पते | उ॒क्थे वा॒ यस्य॒ रण्य॑सि॒ समिन्दु॑भिः ||

yád vā́si sunvató vr̥dhó yájamānasya satpate ukthé vā yásya ráṇyasi sám índubhiḥ

Or, if you are present for the Soma-presser, O Lord of heroes, or for the sacrificer, you delight in the hymns or associated with the drops.

Stanza 8.12.19

दे॒वंदे॑वं॒ वोऽव॑स॒ इन्द्र॑मिन्द्रं गृणी॒षणि॑ | अधा॑ य॒ज्ञाय॑ तु॒र्वणे॒ व्या॑नशुः ||

deváṁ-devaṁ vó 'vasa índram-indraṁ gr̥ṇīṣáṇi ádhā yajñā́ya turváṇe vy āā̀naśuḥ

Praising each god, each Indra, for your aid, and for the sacrifice and its completion, you have indeed succeeded.

Stanza 8.12.20

य॒ज्ञेभि॑र्य॒ज्ञवा॑हसं॒ सोमे॑भिः सोम॒पात॑मम् | होत्रा॑भि॒रिन्द्रं॑ वावृधु॒र्व्या॑नशुः ||

yajñébhir yajñávāhasaṁ sómebhiḥ somapā́tamam hótrābhir índraṁ vāvr̥dhur vy āā̀naśuḥ

With sacrifices, with Soma offerings, with praises, they strengthened Indra, the best Soma-drinker; with hymns, they have indeed gained success.

Stanza 8.12.21

म॒हीर॑स्य॒ प्रणी॑तयः पू॒र्वीरु॒त प्रश॑स्तयः | विश्वा॒ वसू॑नि दा॒शुषे॒ व्या॑नशुः ||

mahī́r asya práṇītayaḥ pūrvī́r utá práśastayaḥ víśvā vásūni dāśúṣe vy āā̀naśuḥ

His great guidance and former praises are indeed beneficial; all wealth is given to the worshipper who offers gifts.

Stanza 8.12.22

इन्द्रं॑ वृ॒त्राय॒ हन्त॑वे दे॒वासो॑ दधिरे पु॒रः | इन्द्रं॒ वाणी॑रनूषता॒ समोज॑से ||

índraṁ vr̥trā́ya hántave devā́so dadhire puráḥ índraṁ vā́ṇīr anūṣatā sám ójase

For defeating Vritra, the gods placed Indra in front; the singers sang of Indra for strength.

Stanza 8.12.23

म॒हान्तं॑ महि॒ना व॒यं स्तोमे॑भिर्हवन॒श्रुत॑म् | अ॒र्कैर॒भि प्र णो॑नुमः॒ समोज॑से ||

mahā́ntam mahinā́ vayáṁ stómebhir havanaśrútam arkaír abhí prá ṇonumaḥ sám ójase

With our hymns, O Indra, we praise your great might, the hearer of calls, with verses for vigorous strength.

Stanza 8.12.24

न यं वि॑वि॒क्तो रोद॑सी॒ नान्तरि॑क्षाणि व॒ज्रिण॑म् | अमा॒दिद॑स्य तित्विषे॒ समोज॑सः ||

ná yáṁ viviktó ródasī nā́ntárikṣāṇi vajríṇam ámād íd asya titviṣe sám ójasaḥ

Neither earth nor heavens contain the thunder-wielder; they tremble before his brilliant strength.

Stanza 8.12.25

यदि॑न्द्र पृत॒नाज्ये॑ दे॒वास्त्वा॑ दधि॒रे पु॒रः | आदित्ते॑ हर्य॒ता हरी॑ ववक्षतुः ||

yád indra pr̥tanā́jye devā́s tvā dadhiré puráḥ ā́d ít te haryatā́ hárī vavakṣatuḥ

When the gods placed you, O Indra, in the battle, then your two beautiful bay horses carried you.

Stanza 8.12.26

य॒दा वृ॒त्रं न॑दी॒वृतं॒ शव॑सा वज्रि॒न्नव॑धीः | आदित्ते॑ हर्य॒ता हरी॑ ववक्षतुः ||

yadā́ vr̥tráṁ nadīvŕ̥taṁ śávasā vajrinn ávadhīḥ ā́d ít te haryatā́ hárī vavakṣatuḥ

When you, O thunderer, slew Vritra, the blocker of rivers, with might, then your two beautiful bay horses carried you.

Stanza 8.12.27

य॒दा ते॒ विष्णु॒रोज॑सा॒ त्रीणि॑ प॒दा वि॑चक्र॒मे | आदित्ते॑ हर्य॒ता हरी॑ ववक्षतुः ||

yadā́ te víṣṇur ójasā trī́ṇi padā́ vicakramé ā́d ít te haryatā́ hárī vavakṣatuḥ

When Vishnu, by your power, took his three steps, then your two beautiful bay horses carried you.

Stanza 8.12.28

य॒दा ते॑ हर्य॒ता हरी॑ वावृ॒धाते॑ दि॒वेदि॑वे | आदित्ते॒ विश्वा॒ भुव॑नानि येमिरे ||

yadā́ te haryatā́ hárī vāvr̥dhā́te divé-dive ā́d ít te víśvā bhúvanāni yemire

When your two beautiful bay horses grew stronger day by day, then indeed all worlds submitted to you.

Stanza 8.12.29

य॒दा ते॒ मारु॑ती॒र्विश॒स्तुभ्य॑मिन्द्र नियेमि॒रे | आदित्ते॒ विश्वा॒ भुव॑नानि येमिरे ||

yadā́ te mā́rutīr víśas túbhyam indra niyemiré ā́d ít te víśvā bhúvanāni yemire

When the Marut hosts, O Indra, submitted to you, then indeed all worlds submitted to you.

Stanza 8.12.30

य॒दा सूर्य॑म॒मुं दि॒वि शु॒क्रं ज्योति॒रधा॑रयः | आदित्ते॒ विश्वा॒ भुव॑नानि येमिरे ||

yadā́ sū́ryam amúṁ diví śukráṁ jyótir ádhārayaḥ ā́d ít te víśvā bhúvanāni yemire

When you placed the brilliant sun, that light, in the sky, then indeed all worlds submitted to you.

Stanza 8.12.31

इ॒मां त॑ इन्द्र सुष्टु॒तिं विप्र॑ इयर्ति धी॒तिभिः॑ | जा॒मिं प॒देव॒ पिप्र॑तीं॒ प्राध्व॒रे ||

imā́ṁ ta indra suṣṭutíṁ vípra iyarti dhītíbhiḥ jāmím padéva pípratīm prā́dhvaré

This new and fitting hymn, O Indra, the sage brings to you with thoughts; it pleases like a sister leading the way in the sacrifice.

Stanza 8.12.32

यद॑स्य॒ धाम॑नि प्रि॒ये स॑मीची॒नासो॒ अस्व॑रन् | नाभा॑ य॒ज्ञस्य॑ दो॒हना॒ प्राध्व॒रे ||

yád asya dhā́mani priyé samīcīnā́so ásvaran nā́bhā yajñásya dohánā prā́dhvaré

When all assembled in your dear place sang together, the milk-streams at the center of the sacrifice flowed forth.

Stanza 8.12.33

सु॒वीर्यं॒ स्वश्व्यं॑ सु॒गव्य॑मिन्द्र दद्धि नः | होते॑व पू॒र्वचि॑त्तये॒ प्राध्व॒रे ||

suvī́ryaṁ sváśvyaṁ sugávyam indra daddhi naḥ hóteva pūrvácittaye prā́dhvaré

O Indra, grant us heroism, good horses, and cattle, like a priest making the first offering in the sacrifice.
