Stanza 7.97.1

य॒ज्ञे दि॒वो नृ॒षद॑ने पृथि॒व्या नरो॒ यत्र॑ देव॒यवो॒ मद॑न्ति | इन्द्रा॑य॒ यत्र॒ सव॑नानि सु॒न्वे गम॒न्मदा॑य प्रथ॒मं वय॑श्च ||

yajñé divó nr̥ṣádane pr̥thivyā́ náro yátra devayávo mádanti índrāya yátra sávanāni sunvé gáman mádāya prathamáṁ váyaś ca

In the sacrifice, in the assembly of men on Earth, where those who yearn for the gods delight, where libations are prepared for Indra, may he come first to share in the enjoyment and gain strength.

Stanza 7.97.2

आ दैव्या॑ वृणीम॒हेऽवां॑सि॒ बृह॒स्पति॑र्नो मह॒ आ स॑खायः | यथा॒ भवे॑म मी॒ळ्हुषे॒ अना॑गा॒ यो नो॑ दा॒ता प॑रा॒वतः॑ पि॒तेव॑ ||

ā́ daívyā vr̥ṇīmahé 'vāṁsi bŕ̥haspátir no maha ā́ sakhāyaḥ yáthā bhávema mīḷhúṣe ánāgā yó no dātā́ parāvátaḥ pitéva

We choose the divine powers, O friends, so that Brihaspati may exalt us. May we be blameless to the giver, who is like a father from a distant place.

Stanza 7.97.3

तमु॒ ज्येष्ठं॒ नम॑सा ह॒विर्भिः॑ सु॒शेवं॒ ब्रह्म॑ण॒स्पतिं॑ गृणीषे | इन्द्रं॒ श्लोको॒ महि॒ दैव्यः॑ सिषक्तु॒ यो ब्रह्म॑णो दे॒वकृ॑तस्य॒ राजा॑ ||

tám u jyéṣṭhaṁ námasā havírbhiḥ suśévam bráhmaṇas pátiṁ gr̥ṇīṣe índraṁ ślóko máhi daívyaḥ siṣaktu yó bráhmaṇo devákr̥tasya rā́jā

That Brihaspati, the greatest and most gracious, I praise with reverence and offerings. May the great divine hymn reach Indra, who is the king of the divinely created order.

Stanza 7.97.4

स आ नो॒ योनिं॑ सदतु॒ प्रेष्ठो॒ बृह॒स्पति॑र्वि॒श्ववा॑रो॒ यो अस्ति॑ | कामो॑ रा॒यः सु॒वीर्य॑स्य॒ तं दा॒त्पर्ष॑न्नो॒ अति॑ स॒श्चतो॒ अरि॑ष्टान् ||

sá ā́ no yóniṁ sadatu préṣṭho bŕ̥haspátir viśvávāro yó ásti kā́mo rāyáḥ suvī́ryasya táṁ dāt párṣan no áti saścáto áriṣṭān

May that most beloved Brihaspati, who is the source of all blessings, sit in our place. May he grant us wealth and heroic strength, and protect us from those who harm us.

Stanza 7.97.5

तमा नो॑ अ॒र्कम॒मृता॑य॒ जुष्ट॑मि॒मे धा॑सुर॒मृता॑सः पुरा॒जाः | शुचि॑क्रन्दं यज॒तं प॒स्त्या॑नां॒ बृह॒स्पति॑मन॒र्वाणं॑ हुवेम ||

tám ā́ no arkám amŕ̥tāya júṣṭam imé dhāsur amŕ̥tāsaḥ purājā́ḥ śúcikrandaṁ yajatám pastyāā̀nām bŕ̥haspátim anarvā́ṇaṁ huvema

We call upon him, that hymn pleasing to the immortals, which the ancient immortals granted. We call upon the pure-voiced, venerable Brihaspati, protector of households, free from obstacles.

Stanza 7.97.6

तं श॒ग्मासो॑ अरु॒षासो॒ अश्वा॒ बृह॒स्पतिं॑ सह॒वाहो॑ वहन्ति | सह॑श्चि॒द्यस्य॒ नील॑वत्स॒धस्थं॒ नभो॒ न रू॒पम॑रु॒षं वसा॑नाः ||

táṁ śagmā́so aruṣā́so áśvā bŕ̥haspátiṁ sahavā́ho vahanti sáhaś cid yásya nī́lavat sadhásthaṁ nábho ná rūpám aruṣáṁ vásānāḥ

Strong, red horses carry him, Brihaspati, together. Clothed in colors like the sky, they carry the one whose dwelling provides strength.

Stanza 7.97.7

स हि शुचिः॑ श॒तप॑त्रः॒ स शु॒न्ध्युर्हिर॑ण्यवाशीरिषि॒रः स्व॒र्षाः | बृह॒स्पतिः॒ स स्वा॑वे॒श ऋ॒ष्वः पु॒रू सखि॑भ्य आसु॒तिं करि॑ष्ठः ||

sá hí śúciḥ śatápatraḥ sá śundhyúr híraṇyavāśīr iṣiráḥ svarṣā́ḥ bŕ̥haspátiḥ sá svāveśá r̥ṣváḥ purū́ sákhibhya āsutíṁ káriṣṭhaḥ

He is pure, with a hundred splendors, radiant, with a golden sword, swift, and sun-winning. Sublime Brihaspati, easily accessible, grants his friends great refreshment.

Stanza 7.97.8

दे॒वी दे॒वस्य॒ रोद॑सी॒ जनि॑त्री॒ बृह॒स्पतिं॑ वावृधतुर्महि॒त्वा | द॒क्षाय्या॑य दक्षता सखायः॒ कर॒द्ब्रह्म॑णे सु॒तरा॑ सुगा॒धा ||

devī́ devásya ródasī jánitrī bŕ̥haspátiṁ vāvr̥dhatur mahitvā́ dakṣā́yyāya dakṣatā sakhāyaḥ kárad bráhmaṇe sutárā sugādhā́

The divine parents, Heaven and Earth, increased Brihaspati's greatness. Friends, glorify him who deserves praise: may he make prayer easy to traverse and successful.

Stanza 7.97.9

इ॒यं वां॑ ब्रह्मणस्पते सुवृ॒क्तिर्ब्रह्मेन्द्रा॑य व॒ज्रिणे॑ अकारि | अ॒वि॒ष्टं धियो॑ जिगृ॒तं पुरं॑धीर्जज॒स्तम॒र्यो व॒नुषा॒मरा॑तीः ||

iyáṁ vām brahmaṇas pate suvr̥ktír bráhméndrāya vajríṇe akāri aviṣṭáṁ dhíyo jigr̥tám púraṁdhīr jajastám aryó vanúṣām árātīḥ

This prayer of yours, O Brihaspati, has been made for Indra, the thunderbolt-wielder. Accept our thoughts, grasp our hymns; destroy the godless and our hostile foes.

Stanza 7.97.10

बृह॑स्पते यु॒वमिन्द्र॑श्च॒ वस्वो॑ दि॒व्यस्ये॑शाथे उ॒त पार्थि॑वस्य | ध॒त्तं र॒यिं स्तु॑व॒ते की॒रये॑ चिद्यू॒यं पा॑त स्व॒स्तिभिः॒ सदा॑ नः ||

bŕ̥haspate yuvám índraś ca vásvo divyásyeśāthe utá pā́rthivasya dhattáṁ rayíṁ stuvaté kīráye cid yūyám pāta svastíbhiḥ sádā naḥ

O Brihaspati and Indra, you both rule over heavenly and earthly wealth. Grant wealth to the praiser and the singer. You protect us always with blessings.
