Stanza 7.88.1

prá śundhyúvaṁ váruṇāya préṣṭhām matíṁ vasiṣṭha mīḷhúṣe bharasva yá īm arvā́ñcaṁ kárate yájatraṁ sahásrāmaghaṁ vŕ̥ṣaṇam br̥hántam

O Vasishtha, offer to Varuna the most beloved hymn, that is pleasing to the generous one. For he brings to us the mighty, glorious, and great bull (Varuna himself, or the strength he bestows).

Stanza 7.88.2

ádhā nv àsya saṁdŕ̥śaṁ jaganvā́n agnér ánīkaṁ váruṇasya maṁsi svàr yád áśmann adhipā́ u ándho 'bhí mā vápur dr̥śáye ninīyāt

Now, having approached his presence, I perceive Varuna's countenance like that of Agni. May he, the lord, lead me to see the bright glory, which is like darkness in the sky.

Stanza 7.88.3

ā́ yád ruhā́va váruṇaś ca nā́vam prá yát samudrám īráyāva mádhyam ádhi yád apā́ṁ snúbhiś cárāva prá preṅkhá īṅkhayāvahai śubhé kám

When Varuna and I mount the boat together and propel it to the middle of the ocean; when we move across the ridges of the waters, we will swing in that swing, and be happy.

Stanza 7.88.4

Varuna indeed placed Vasishtha, the sage, in the divine boat and, by his great powers, made him a singer. He made him a praiser of the vipra (Varuna) in the prosperous days of the year, as long as the skies are spread and the dawns appear.

Stanza 7.88.5

kvà tyā́ni nau sakhyā́ babhūvuḥ sácāvahe yád avr̥kám purā́ cit br̥hántam mā́naṁ varuṇa svadhāvaḥ sahásradvāraṁ jagamā gr̥háṁ te

Where have those friendships of ours gone, when we two formerly conversed without enmity? O Varuna, possessor of true power, I have entered your great mansion, your home with a thousand doors.

Stanza 7.88.6

yá āpír nítyo varuṇa priyáḥ sán tvā́m ā́gāṁsi kr̥ṇávat sákhā te mā́ ta énasvanto yakṣin bhujema yandhí ṣmā vípra stuvaté várūtham

Who is your constant kinsman, O Varuna, who was formerly dear, but now has committed sins? Let us not, O powerful one, be associated with the sinful. Grant shelter, O sage-like one, to your praiser.

Stanza 7.88.7

May we, abiding in these fixed dwellings, and seeking favor from Aditi's lap, be released by Varuna from the noose. O you gods, protect us always with blessings.
