Stanza 6.48.1

य॒ज्ञाय॑ज्ञा वो अ॒ग्नये॑ गि॒रागि॑रा च॒ दक्ष॑से | प्रप्र॑ व॒यम॒मृतं॑ जा॒तवे॑दसं प्रि॒यं मि॒त्रं न शं॑सिषम् ||

yajñā́-yajñā vo agnáye girā́-girā ca dákṣase prá-pra vayám amŕ̥taṁ jātávedasam priyám mitráṁ ná śaṁsiṣam

We praise you, Agni, with every sacrifice and song, for your strength. We praise you, the immortal, all-knowing one, who is dear to us like a friend.

Stanza 6.48.2

ऊ॒र्जो नपा॑तं॒ स हि॒नायम॑स्म॒युर्दाशे॑म ह॒व्यदा॑तये | भुव॒द्वाजे॑ष्ववि॒ता भुव॑द्वृ॒ध उ॒त त्रा॒ता त॒नूना॑म् ||

ūrjó nápātaṁ sá hinā́yám asmayúr dā́śema havyádātaye bhúvad vā́jeṣv avitā́ bhúvad vr̥dhá utá trātā́ tanū́nām

He is the son of strength, our gracious lord. Let us offer him our gifts. In battles, may he be our helper and protector of our bodies.

Stanza 6.48.3

वृषा॒ ह्य॑ग्ने अ॒जरो॑ म॒हान्वि॒भास्य॒र्चिषा॑ | अज॑स्रेण शो॒चिषा॒ शोशु॑चच्छुचे सुदी॒तिभिः॒ सु दी॑दिहि ||

vŕ̥ṣā hy àgne ajáro mahā́n vibhā́sy arcíṣā ájasreṇa śocíṣā śóśucac chuce sudītíbhiḥ sú dīdihi

Agni, you are a mighty hero, great and unaging. You shine with radiant, pure brilliance, a light that never fades.

Stanza 6.48.4

म॒हो दे॒वान्यज॑सि॒ यक्ष्या॑नु॒षक्तव॒ क्रत्वो॒त दं॒सना॑ | अ॒र्वाचः॑ सीं कृणुह्य॒ग्नेऽव॑से॒ रास्व॒ वाजो॒त वं॑स्व ||

mahó devā́n yájasi yákṣy ānuṣák táva krátvotá daṁsánā arvā́caḥ sīṁ kr̥ṇuhy agné 'vase rā́sva vā́jotá vaṁsva

You worship the great gods. Bring them near with wisdom and power. O Agni, make them favorable to us for protection. Give us strength and victory.

Stanza 6.48.5

यमापो॒ अद्र॑यो॒ वना॒ गर्भ॑मृ॒तस्य॒ पिप्र॑ति | सह॑सा॒ यो म॑थि॒तो जाय॑ते॒ नृभिः॑ पृथि॒व्या अधि॒ सान॑वि ||

yám ā́po ádrayo vánā gárbham r̥tásya píprati sáhasā yó mathitó jā́yate nŕ̥bhiḥ pr̥thivyā́ ádhi sā́navi

The one whom waters, mountains, and trees sustain, the child of cosmic order, who is born by the effort of men, is nurtured by them.

Stanza 6.48.6

आ यः प॒प्रौ भा॒नुना॒ रोद॑सी उ॒भे धू॒मेन॑ धावते दि॒वि | ति॒रस्तमो॑ ददृश॒ ऊर्म्या॒स्वा श्या॒वास्व॑रु॒षो वृषा श्या॒वा अ॑रु॒षो वृषा॑ ||

ā́ yáḥ papraú bhānúnā ródasī ubhé dhūména dhāvate diví tirás támo dadr̥śa ū́rmyāsv ā́ śyāvā́sv aruṣó vŕ̥ṣā́ śyāvā́ aruṣó vŕ̥ṣā

He spreads with his brilliance filling both worlds. He moves with smoke towards the sky. He is seen through the darkness of night, the strong red one, appearing in the dark nights.

Stanza 6.48.7

बृ॒हद्भि॑रग्ने अ॒र्चिभिः॑ शु॒क्रेण॑ देव शो॒चिषा॑ | भ॒रद्वा॑जे समिधा॒नो य॑विष्ठ्य रे॒वन्नः॑ शुक्र दीदिहि द्यु॒मत्पा॑वक दीदिहि ||

br̥hádbhir agne arcíbhiḥ śukréṇa deva śocíṣā bharádvāje samidhānó yaviṣṭhya reván naḥ śukra dīdihi dyumát pāvaka dīdihi

O Agni, with your great, bright flames and pure brilliance, O God, kindled, most youthful one, shine upon us with wealth. O pure, brilliant one, shine!

Stanza 6.48.8

विश्वा॑सां गृ॒हप॑तिर्वि॒शाम॑सि॒ त्वम॑ग्ने॒ मानु॑षीणाम् | श॒तं पू॒र्भिर्य॑विष्ठ पा॒ह्यंह॑सः समे॒द्धारं॑ श॒तं हिमाः॑ स्तो॒तृभ्यो॒ ये च॒ दद॑ति ||

víśvāsāṁ gr̥hápatir viśā́m asi tvám agne mā́nuṣīṇām śatám pūrbhír yaviṣṭha pāhy áṁhasaḥ sameddhā́raṁ śatáṁ hímā stotŕ̥bhyo yé ca dádati

You are the lord of our homes and the ruler of people. O Agni, protect us with a hundred forts from distress, through a hundred winters, and protect those who give to us.

Stanza 6.48.9

त्वं न॑श्चि॒त्र ऊ॒त्या वसो॒ राधां॑सि चोदय | अ॒स्य रा॒यस्त्वम॑ग्ने र॒थीर॑सि वि॒दा गा॒धं तु॒चे तु नः॑ ||

tváṁ naś citrá ūtyā́ váso rā́dhāṁsi codaya asyá rāyás tvám agne rathī́r asi vidā́ gādháṁ tucé tú naḥ

O wonderful one, with your help, inspire us with wealth. O Agni, you are the charioteer of riches. Find us stability and security for our descendants.

Stanza 6.48.10

पर्षि॑ तो॒कं तन॑यं प॒र्तृभि॒ष्ट्वमद॑ब्धै॒रप्र॑युत्वभिः | अग्ने॒ हेळां॑सि॒ दैव्या॑ युयोधि॒ नोऽदे॑वानि॒ ह्वरां॑सि च ||

párṣi tokáṁ tánayam partŕ̥bhiṣ ṭvám ádabdhair áprayutvabhiḥ ágne héḷāṁsi daívyā yuyodhi nó 'devāni hvárāṁsi ca

Pass our children and offspring over with your unfailing, ever-present protectors. O Agni, separate us from divine anger and the evils of wicked people.

Stanza 6.48.11

आ स॑खायः सब॒र्दुघां॑ धे॒नुम॑जध्व॒मुप॒ नव्य॑सा॒ वचः॑ | सृ॒जध्व॒मन॑पस्फुराम् ||

ā́ sakhāyaḥ sabardúghāṁ dhenúm ajadhvam úpa návyasā vácaḥ sr̥jádhvam ánapasphurām

O friends, drive here the milch-cow that gives abundant milk with new words. Release her who never turns away.

Stanza 6.48.12

या शर्धा॑य॒ मारु॑ताय॒ स्वभा॑नवे॒ श्रवोऽमृ॑त्यु॒ धुक्ष॑त | या मृ॑ळी॒के म॒रुतां॑ तु॒राणां॒ या सु॒म्नैरे॑व॒याव॑री ||

yā́ śárdhāya mā́rutāya svábhānave śrávó 'mr̥tyu dhúkṣata yā́ mr̥ḷīké marútāṁ turā́ṇāṁ yā́ sumnaír evayā́varī

Who, for the Maruts' host, with shining brilliance, poured out immortal fame. The impetuous Maruts love her who moves with splendor.

Stanza 6.48.13

भ॒रद्वा॑जा॒याव॑ धुक्षत द्वि॒ता | धे॒नुं च॑ वि॒श्वदो॑हस॒मिषं॑ च वि॒श्वभो॑जसम् ||

bharádvājāyā́va dhukṣata dvitā́ dhenúṁ ca viśvádohasam íṣaṁ ca viśvábhojasam

For Bharadvaja, she poured down twice: the milch-cow of all-giving sustenance and food that nourishes all.

Stanza 6.48.14

तं व॒ इन्द्रं॒ न सु॒क्रतुं॒ वरु॑णमिव मा॒यिन॑म् | अ॒र्य॒मणं॒ न म॒न्द्रं सृ॒प्रभो॑जसं॒ विष्णुं॒ न स्तु॑ष आ॒दिशे॑ ||

táṁ va índraṁ ná sukrátuṁ váruṇam iva māyínam aryamáṇaṁ ná mandráṁ sr̥prábhojasaṁ víṣṇuṁ ná stuṣa ādíśe

We praise you, our friend, like wise Indra, like magical Varuna, like joyous Aryaman, and like Vishnu who brings abundant food.

Stanza 6.48.15

त्वे॒षं शर्धो॒ न मारु॑तं तुवि॒ष्वण्य॑न॒र्वाणं॑ पू॒षणं॒ सं यथा॑ श॒ता | सं स॒हस्रा॒ कारि॑षच्चर्ष॒णिभ्य॒ आँ आ॒विर्गू॒ळ्हा वसू॑ करत्सु॒वेदा॑ नो॒ वसू॑ करत् ||

tveṣáṁ śárdho ná mā́rutaṁ tuviṣváṇy anarvā́ṇam pūṣáṇaṁ sáṁ yáthā śatā́ sáṁ sahásrā kā́riṣac carṣaṇíbhya ā́m̐ āvír gūḷhā́ vásū karat suvédā no vásū karat

Like the brilliant host of the Maruts, may it bring Pushan, free from foes. May it bring hundreds, thousands for people, may it bring hidden treasures to light, and make wealth easily found.

Stanza 6.48.16

आ मा॑ पूष॒न्नुप॑ द्रव॒ शंसि॑षं॒ नु ते॑ अपिक॒र्ण आ॑घृणे | अ॒घा अ॒र्यो अरा॑तयः ||

ā́ mā pūṣann úpa drava śáṁsiṣaṁ nú te apikarṇá āghr̥ṇe aghā́ aryó árātayaḥ

Hasten to me, O Pushan, bright deity, in your chariot. I wish to praise you. Our enemy's hatred is indeed sinful.

Stanza 6.48.17

मा का॑क॒म्बीर॒मुद्वृ॑हो॒ वन॒स्पति॒मश॑स्ती॒र्वि हि नीन॑शः | मोत सूरो॒ अह॑ ए॒वा च॒न ग्री॒वा आ॒दध॑ते॒ वेः ||

mā́ kākambī́ram úd vr̥ho vánaspátim áśastīr ví hí nī́naśaḥ mótá sū́ro áha evā́ caná grīvā́ ādádhate véḥ

Do not uproot the Kākambīra tree. Destroy all malice. Do not let the Sun, the celestial bird, harm us by day.

Stanza 6.48.18

दृते॑रिव तेऽवृ॒कम॑स्तु स॒ख्यम् | अच्छि॑द्रस्य दध॒न्वतः॒ सुपू॑र्णस्य दध॒न्वतः॑ ||

dŕ̥ter iva te 'vr̥kám astu sakhyám áchidrasya dadhanvátaḥ súpūrṇasya dadhanvátaḥ

Let your friendship be uninjured, like a flawless skin, containing nourishing curds, perfect and full.

Stanza 6.48.19

प॒रो हि मर्त्यै॒रसि॑ स॒मो दे॒वैरु॒त श्रि॒या | अ॒भि ख्यः॑ पूष॒न्पृत॑नासु न॒स्त्वमवा॑ नू॒नं यथा॑ पु॒रा ||

paró hí mártyair ási samó devaír utá śriyā́ abhí khyaḥ pūṣan pŕ̥tanāsu nas tvám ávā nūnáṁ yáthā purā́

You are beyond mortals, equal to the gods in glory. O Pushan, look upon us in battle, and help us now, as you did before.

Stanza 6.48.20

वा॒मी वा॒मस्य॑ धूतयः॒ प्रणी॑तिरस्तु सू॒नृता॑ | दे॒वस्य॑ वा मरुतो॒ मर्त्य॑स्य वेजा॒नस्य॑ प्रयज्यवः ||

vāmī́ vāmásya dhūtayaḥ práṇītir astu sūnŕ̥tā devásya vā maruto mártyasya vejānásya prayajyavaḥ

O loud roaring Maruts, let the kindness and excellence of the god, or of a mortal man who worships, be our guide. O impetuous ones!

Stanza 6.48.21

स॒द्यश्चि॒द्यस्य॑ चर्कृ॒तिः परि॒ द्यां दे॒वो नैति॒ सूर्यः॑ | त्वे॒षं शवो॑ दधिरे॒ नाम॑ य॒ज्ञियं॑ म॒रुतो॑ वृत्र॒हं शवो॒ ज्येष्ठं॑ वृत्र॒हं शवः॑ ||

sadyáś cid yásya carkr̥tíḥ pári dyā́ṁ devó naíti sū́ryaḥ tveṣáṁ śávo dadhire nā́ma yajñíyam marúto vr̥traháṁ śávo jyéṣṭhaṁ vr̥traháṁ śávaḥ

Their magnificent glory instantly encircles the sky like the Sun. The Maruts have obtained radiant strength and a sacred name, strength that destroys Vritras, the greatest strength.

Stanza 6.48.22

स॒कृद्ध॒ द्यौर॑जायत स॒कृद्भूमि॑रजायत | पृश्न्या॑ दु॒ग्धं स॒कृत्पय॒स्तद॒न्यो नानु॑ जायते ||

sakŕ̥d dha dyaúr ajāyata sakŕ̥d bhū́mir ajāyata pŕ̥śnyā dugdháṁ sakŕ̥t páyas tád anyó nā́nu jāyate

Once, heaven was born. Once, the earth was born. Once, the milk of Prishni was shed. Nothing else is born after this.
