Sing forth a grand and solemn hymn, beloved and glorious to Varuna, the sovereign ruler! He, like a sacrificer who has struck down the victim, has spread out the earth as a skin for Surya.

váneṣu vy àntárikṣaṁ tatāna vā́jam árvatsu páya usríyāsu hr̥tsú krátuṁ váruṇo apsv àgníṁ diví sū́ryam adadhāt sómam ádrau

Varuna spread out the air in the forests, placed sustenance in horses, milk in cows, intellect in hearts, fire in the waters, the sun in the sky, and Soma on the mountain.

nīcī́nabāraṁ váruṇaḥ kávandham prá sasarja ródasī antárikṣam téna víśvasya bhúvanasya rā́jā yávaṁ ná vr̥ṣṭír vy ùnatti bhū́ma

Varuna released the downward-opening cask, and it flowed through the sky, the earth, and the atmosphere. By this, the king of all worlds nourishes the earth like barley sown by the rain.

When Varuna desires, he moistens the earth, the sky, and the land. Then the mountains are covered by clouds, and the heroes, exerting their strength, break free.

I will declare this mighty magic of the glorious, immortal Varuna. Standing in the atmosphere like a measure, he meted out the earth with the sun.

No one has ever been able to restrain or hinder the magic of this most wise God. Though rivers flow with their waters, they do not fill any single sea.

O Varuna, if we have offended our kin, or a friend, or a brother, or a neighbor, or even a stranger, remove our sin.

If we, like gamblers, have cheated in play, or spoken falsely, or done wrong knowingly or unknowingly, O divine Varuna, loosen all those sins like fetters, and may we become dear to you.
