áchā vada tavásaṁ gīrbhír ābhí stuhí parjányaṁ námasā́ vivāsa kánikradad vr̥ṣabhó jīrádānū réto dadhāty óṣadhīṣu gárbham

Sing well with these hymns; praise the mighty Parjanya with reverence. He, the roaring bull, quick to bestow gifts, places the seed within the plants to grow.

He smashes the trees and destroys the demons; the entire world trembles at his great weapon. Even the innocent flee from the powerful one, when Parjanya, thundering, strikes the wicked.

Like a charioteer whipping his horses, he makes the rain-messengers appear. From afar, the roar sounds like a lion's, when Parjanya creates the rain-cloud in the sky.

Winds blow, lightning flashes down; plants sprout up, light flows abundantly. Food arises for all the world, when Parjanya waters the earth with his seed.

Because the earth bows at your command, and hooved animals tremble at your command, and plants take all forms at your command, O Parjanya, grant us great protection.

O Maruts, grant us the rain from heaven; pour forth the abundant streams of the strong steed. Come hither with this thunder, O our heavenly father, and pour down the waters.

Stanza 5.83.7

Roar and thunder, and deposit the germ of life! Circle around us with your water-filled chariot. Draw down your opened water-skin well, and make the heights and low places level with the waters.

Stanza 5.83.8

Draw up the great vessel and pour down the water; let the released streams flow forward. Thoroughly moisten heaven and earth with fatness; let there be easy drinking for the cows.

Stanza 5.83.9

When you, O Parjanya, roar and strike down the wicked with thunder, then this whole universe rejoices, and everything on the earth.

You have poured down the rain; now hold it back. You have made the impassable places traversable. You have caused plants to grow for food, and won the approval of creatures. So now, stop.
