अच्छा॑ वद त॒वसं॑ गी॒र्भिरा॒भिः स्तु॒हि प॒र्जन्यं॒ नम॒सा वि॑वास | कनि॑क्रदद्वृष॒भो जी॒रदा॑नू॒ रेतो॑ दधा॒त्योष॑धीषु॒ गर्भ॑म् ||
áchā vada tavásaṁ gīrbhír ābhí stuhí parjányaṁ námasā́ vivāsa kánikradad vr̥ṣabhó jīrádānū réto dadhāty óṣadhīṣu gárbham
Sing well with these hymns; praise the mighty Parjanya with reverence. He, the roaring bull, quick to bestow gifts, places the seed within the plants to grow.
This verse is a prayer to Parjanya, the god of rain and thunder. The devotee is urged to praise Parjanya with songs and reverence, acknowledging his might and his role in bringing forth life by depositing the seed of life in plants.

ví vr̥kṣā́n hanty utá hanti rakṣáso víśvam bibhāya bhúvanam mahā́vadhāt utā́nāgā īṣate vŕ̥ṣṇyāvato yát parjánya stanáyan hánti duṣkŕ̥taḥ
He smashes the trees and destroys the demons; the entire world trembles at his great weapon. Even the innocent flee from the powerful one, when Parjanya, thundering, strikes the wicked.
This verse describes the fearsome power of Parjanya. When he appears, he can shatter trees and destroy demons. The entire world, including even the innocent, fears his mighty thunderous weapon, especially when he strikes down wrongdoers.

Like a charioteer whipping his horses, he makes the rain-messengers appear. From afar, the roar sounds like a lion's, when Parjanya creates the rain-cloud in the sky.
Parjanya is depicted as a powerful divine charioteer, urging on his horses (the rain clouds) with the whip (thunder). He sends forth his messengers of rain. His roar is heard from afar, like a lion's, as he prepares the sky for rain.

The arrival of Parjanya brings about significant changes in nature. Winds begin to blow, lightning flashes, and plants sprout upwards, revitalizing the world. Light streams forth, and nourishment arises for all living beings, as Parjanya fertilizes the earth with his life-giving moisture.

The devotee implores Parjanya to roar and thunder, and to deposit the germ of life. They ask him to circle around them with his water-laden chariot and draw down his opened waterskin. They wish for the land to be leveled, with both high and low places made even by the waters.

The prayer continues, asking Parjanya to draw up a great vessel of water and pour it down. They desire the flowing streams to rush forward and for both heaven and earth to be thoroughly saturated with moisture. Finally, they wish for abundant drinking water for the cows.

This verse addresses Parjanya, acknowledging his role in bringing rain and making arid lands traversable. It notes that he has caused plants to grow for sustenance and has earned the gratitude of all creatures. The devotee asks him to now withhold the excessive rain.
