Stanza 5.65.1
यश्चि॒केत॒ स सु॒क्रतु॑र्देव॒त्रा स ब्र॑वीतु नः | वरु॑णो॒ यस्य॑ दर्श॒तो मि॒त्रो वा॒ वन॑ते॒ गिरः॑ ||
yáś cikéta sá sukrátur devatrā́ sá bravītu naḥ váruṇo yásya darśató mitró vā vánate gíraḥ
Whoever has understood, he who is truly wise, let him speak to us among the gods. He whose praises Varuṇa, the visible one, or Mitra, favors.
This verse calls upon anyone who has gained true understanding of the divine to speak. It specifically asks for discourse from those who understand the gods, implying that such knowledge is rare and valuable. The verse highlights the importance of wisdom and the ability to discern divine truths, suggesting that those who possess this insight should share it.

tā́ hí śréṣṭhavarcasā rā́jānā dīrghaśrúttamā tā́ sátpatī r̥tāvŕ̥dha r̥tā́vānā jáne-jane
For they are the two kings of the most excellent radiance, the most renowned. They are the lords of the great, upholders of order, upholders of order among people.
This verse describes the divine twin deities, Mitra and Varuṇa, as powerful and renowned kings. They are praised for their immense glory and their role as protectors and supporters of cosmic order ('rita'). They are depicted as omnipresent, present in every community and being.

tā́ vām iyānó 'vase pū́rvā úpa bruve sácā sváśvāsaḥ sú cetúnā vā́jām̐ abhí prá dāváne
Approaching you both for aid, I first invoke you. Together, we with fine horses, invoke you, O wise ones, for the giving of abundance.
The speaker addresses the divine beings, asking for their aid and protection. They invoke them, especially mentioning their own good horses, and seek their wisdom and strength to achieve their goals, particularly in the act of giving or receiving sustenance.

mitró aṁhóś cid ā́d urú kṣáyāya gātúṁ vanate mitrásya hí pratū́rvataḥ sumatír ásti vidhatáḥ
Mitra grants ample space even from distress for dwelling. Indeed, for him who exerts himself, the favor of Mitra, the forward-moving, exists.
This verse states that Mitra provides a way out of even dire distress for those who dwell in his presence. It affirms that those who strive with Mitra, the mighty warrior, receive his favor and benevolent attention, highlighting Mitra's role as a rescuer and supporter.

May we, in Mitra's protection, be in the most spacious dwelling. Unharmed, by your protection, may we be always with Varuṇa's favor.
The devotees express their desire to reside within the vast protection of Mitra, remaining unharmed and supported by his care. They also wish to be perpetually aligned with Varuṇa, indicating a strong devotional stance and reliance on both deities for safety and well-being.

You two, O Mitra and Varuṇa, urge this people onward and lead them together. Do not overlook us, the wealthy ones, nor us, the seers; protect us.
The dual deities, Mitra and Varuṇa, are invoked to guide and unite the people. The verse urges them not to overlook the wealthy patrons or the seers (rishis), but to protect them, especially when they partake in sacred offerings or rituals.
