Stanza 5.1.1

अबो॑ध्य॒ग्निः स॒मिधा॒ जना॑नां॒ प्रति॑ धे॒नुमि॑वाय॒तीमु॒षास॑म् | य॒ह्वा इ॑व॒ प्र व॒यामु॒ज्जिहा॑नाः॒ प्र भा॒नवः॑ सिस्रते॒ नाक॒मच्छ॑ ||

ábodhy agníḥ samídhā jánānām práti dhenúm ivāyatī́m uṣā́sam yahvā́ iva prá vayā́m ujjíhānāḥ prá bhānávaḥ sisrate nā́kam ácha

Agni has been awakened by the people's fuel, to meet the dawn who approaches like a mother cow. His flames rise up towards the sky, like young trees stretching their branches.

Stanza 5.1.2

अबो॑धि॒ होता॑ य॒जथा॑य दे॒वानू॒र्ध्वो अ॒ग्निः सु॒मनाः॑ प्रा॒तर॑स्थात् | समि॑द्धस्य॒ रुश॑ददर्शि॒ पाजो॑ म॒हान्दे॒वस्तम॑सो॒ निर॑मोचि ||

ábodhi hótā yajáthāya devā́n ūrdhvó agníḥ sumánāḥ prātár asthāt sámiddhasya rúśad adarśi pā́jo mahā́n devás támaso nír amoci

The priest has been awakened for the sacrifice to the gods. Gracious Agni has stood up in the morning. His bright radiance was seen when kindled. The great god has been released from darkness.

Stanza 5.1.3

यदीं॑ ग॒णस्य॑ रश॒नामजी॑गः॒ शुचि॑रङ्क्ते॒ शुचि॑भि॒र्गोभि॑र॒ग्निः | आद्दक्षि॑णा युज्यते वाज॒यन्त्यु॑त्ता॒नामू॒र्ध्वो अ॑धयज्जु॒हूभिः॑ ||

yád īṁ gaṇásya raśanā́m ájīgaḥ śúcir aṅkte śúcibhir góbhir agníḥ ā́d dákṣiṇā yujyate vājayánty uttānā́m ūrdhvó adhayaj juhū́bhiḥ

When he has stirred the group's reins, the pure Agni anoints himself with pure substances, like cows. Then the valuable offering is prepared. Agni, standing upright, consumes it with his flames.

Stanza 5.1.4

अ॒ग्निमच्छा॑ देवय॒तां मनां॑सि॒ चक्षूं॑षीव॒ सूर्ये॒ सं च॑रन्ति | यदीं॒ सुवा॑ते उ॒षसा॒ विरू॑पे श्वे॒तो वा॒जी जा॑यते॒ अग्रे॒ अह्ना॑म् ||

agním áchā devayatā́m mánāṁsi cákṣūṁṣīva sū́rye sáṁ caranti yád īṁ súvāte uṣásā vírūpe śvetó vājī́ jāyate ágre áhnām

The minds of the devout turn to Agni, as all eyes turn to the sun. When the two different dawns give birth to him, the white, strong horse is born at the start of the day.

Stanza 5.1.5

जनि॑ष्ट॒ हि जेन्यो॒ अग्रे॒ अह्नां॑ हि॒तो हि॒तेष्व॑रु॒षो वने॑षु | दमे॑दमे स॒प्त रत्ना॒ दधा॑नो॒ऽग्निर्होता॒ नि ष॑सादा॒ यजी॑यान् ||

jániṣṭa hí jényo ágre áhnāṁ hitó hitéṣv aruṣó váneṣu dáme-dame saptá rátnā dádhāno 'gnír hótā ní ṣasādā yájīyān

The noble one was born at the beginning of days. The red one was placed in the established spaces and woods. Agni, the priest and best sacrificer, has settled down, bestowing seven treasures in every home.

Stanza 5.1.6

अ॒ग्निर्होता॒ न्य॑सीद॒द्यजी॑यानु॒पस्थे॑ मा॒तुः सु॑र॒भा उ॑ लो॒के | युवा॑ क॒विः पु॑रुनि॒ष्ठ ऋ॒तावा॑ ध॒र्ता कृ॑ष्टी॒नामु॒त मध्य॑ इ॒द्धः ||

agnír hótā ny àsīdad yájīyān upásthe mātúḥ surabhā́ uloké yúvā kavíḥ puruniṣṭhá r̥tā́vā dhartā́ kr̥ṣṭīnā́m utá mádhya iddháḥ

Agni, the priest and most skilled sacrificer, has settled in the mother's sweet-smelling place. The young, wise sage, established widely and supporting the people, is kindled among them.

Stanza 5.1.7

प्र णु त्यं विप्र॑मध्व॒रेषु॑ सा॒धुम॒ग्निं होता॑रमीळते॒ नमो॑भिः | आ यस्त॒तान॒ रोद॑सी ऋ॒तेन॒ नित्यं॑ मृजन्ति वा॒जिनं॑ घृ॒तेन॑ ||

prá ṇú tyáṁ vípram adhvaréṣu sādhúm agníṁ hótāram īḷate námobhiḥ ā́ yás tatā́na ródasī r̥téna nítyam mr̥janti vājínaṁ ghr̥téna

Let us praise with adorations that excellent priest, Agni the Hotri, who has spread the two worlds by cosmic order. They constantly anoint the powerful one with ghee.

Stanza 5.1.8

मा॒र्जा॒ल्यो॑ मृज्यते॒ स्वे दमू॑नाः कविप्रश॒स्तो अति॑थिः शि॒वो नः॑ | स॒हस्र॑शृङ्गो वृष॒भस्तदो॑जा॒ विश्वाँ॑ अग्ने॒ सह॑सा॒ प्रास्य॒न्यान् ||

mārjālyò mr̥jyate své dámūnāḥ kavipraśastó átithiḥ śivó naḥ sahásraśr̥ṅgo vr̥ṣabhás tádojā víśvām̐ agne sáhasā prā́sy anyā́n

He who likes to be groomed is worshipped in his home, the House-Friend, praised by sages, our auspicious guest. The bull with a thousand horns has that strength. O Agni, by this power you surpass all others.

Stanza 5.1.9

प्र स॒द्यो अ॑ग्ने॒ अत्ये॑ष्य॒न्याना॒विर्यस्मै॒ चारु॑तमो ब॒भूथ॑ | ई॒ळेन्यो॑ वपु॒ष्यो॑ वि॒भावा॑ प्रि॒यो वि॒शामति॑थि॒र्मानु॑षीणाम् ||

prá sadyó agne áty eṣy anyā́n āvír yásmai cā́rutamo babhū́tha īḷényo vapuṣyò vibhā́vā priyó viśā́m átithir mā́nuṣīṇām

O Agni, you quickly surpass all others for whomever you appear most lovely. You are adorable, beautiful, radiant, and the beloved guest of humankind.

Stanza 5.1.10

तुभ्यं॑ भरन्ति क्षि॒तयो॑ यविष्ठ ब॒लिम॑ग्ने॒ अन्ति॑त॒ ओत दू॒रात् | आ भन्दि॑ष्ठस्य सुम॒तिं चि॑किद्धि बृ॒हत्ते॑ अग्ने॒ महि॒ शर्म॑ भ॒द्रम् ||

túbhyam bharanti kṣitáyo yaviṣṭha balím agne ántita ótá dūrā́t ā́ bhándiṣṭhasya sumatíṁ cikiddhi br̥hát te agne máhi śárma bhadrám

To you, O youngest one, the people bring tribute, O Agni, from near and far. Understand the favor of the most glorious one! Great, O Agni, is your mighty and auspicious shelter.

Stanza 5.1.11

आद्य रथं॑ भानुमो भानु॒मन्त॒मग्ने॒ तिष्ठ॑ यज॒तेभिः॒ सम॑न्तम् | वि॒द्वान्प॑थी॒नामु॒र्व१॒॑न्तरि॑क्ष॒मेह दे॒वान्ह॑वि॒रद्या॑य वक्षि ||

ā́dyá rátham bhānumo bhānumántam ágne tíṣṭha yajatébhiḥ sámantam vidvā́n pathīnā́m urv àntárikṣam éhá devā́n havirádyāya vakṣi

Ascend today, O radiant Agni, your shining chariot with the worshippers around. Knowing the paths through the wide air, bring the gods here to eat the offering.

Stanza 5.1.12

अवो॑चाम क॒वये॒ मेध्या॑य॒ वचो॑ व॒न्दारु॑ वृष॒भाय॒ वृष्णे॑ | गवि॑ष्ठिरो॒ नम॑सा॒ स्तोम॑म॒ग्नौ दि॒वी॑व रु॒क्ममु॑रु॒व्यञ्च॑मश्रेत् ||

ávocāma kaváye médhyāya váco vandā́ru vr̥ṣabhā́ya vŕ̥ṣṇe gáviṣṭhiro námasā stómam agnaú divīā̀va rukmám uruvyáñcam aśret

We have spoken words of praise to the holy, wise, and mighty priest. Gavishthira has sent his song of praise to Agni with devotion, like gold shining widely in the sky.
