Agni is addressed as being born pure from his divine mothers, and as a joyful, wise being emerging from Vivasvan. The hymn emphasizes that offerings of ghee (clarified butter) strengthen him, and his smoky plume rising to the sky serves as his visible sign or banner.

You, O Agni, who were hidden, dwelling in every wood, the Angiras discovered. You are born from friction, a great strength. Thee, O Angiras, they call the son of strength.
The Angiras sages discovered Agni hidden in various places, possibly referring to the process of finding and generating fire from wood. Agni is described as being born through friction ('mathyamānaḥ'), embodying great strength, and is consequently called the 'son of strength' by the Angiras.
