From the ocean, the honeyed wave arose; with the Soma-drink, it attained immortality. This is the hidden name of Ghr̥ta, which is the tongue of the gods, the very navel of immortality.

Stanza 4.58.2

We shall declare the name of Ghr̥ta, and at this sacrifice, we shall uphold it with reverence. May the priest hear our chanting. Like a four-horned bull, it has appeared.

Stanza 4.58.3

catvā́ri śŕ̥ṅgā tráyo asya pā́dā dvé śīrṣé saptá hástāso asya trídhā baddhó vr̥ṣabhó roravīti mahó devó mártyām̐ ā́ viveśa

Four horns has it, three are its feet, two heads and seven hands belong to it. Bound threefold, the bull roars loudly; the great god has entered mortals.

Stanza 4.58.4

The gods found Ghr̥ta, hidden in three ways within the cow, concealed by the Paṇis. Indra produced one form, Surya one, and Vena fashioned the third by his own power.

Stanza 4.58.5

etā́ arṣanti hŕ̥dyāt samudrā́c chatávrajā ripúṇā nā́vacákṣe ghr̥tásya dhā́rā abhí cākaśīmi hiraṇyáyo vetasó mádhya āsām

These flow in countless channels from the inner ocean, unseen by the foe. I observe the streams of Ghr̥ta, and a golden reed is among them.

Stanza 4.58.6

Like rivers, they flow together, purifying themselves in heart and mind. These streams of Ghr̥ta flow like animals quickly moving.

Stanza 4.58.7

Like rivers in rapids, swift currents move faster than the wind. The streams of Ghr̥ta, like a red courser, break through the barriers, filling all.

Stanza 4.58.8

abhí pravanta sámaneva yóṣāḥ kalyāṇyàḥ smáyamānāso agním ghr̥tásya dhā́rāḥ samídho nasanta tā́ juṣāṇó haryati jātávedāḥ

Like women at a gathering, smiling, they flow towards Agni. The streams of Ghr̥ta reach the fuel, and Jātavedas joyfully accepts them.

Stanza 4.58.9

kanyāā̀ iva vahatúm étavā́ u añjy àñjānā́ abhí cākaśīmi yátra sómaḥ sūyáte yátra yajñó ghr̥tásya dhā́rā abhí tát pavante

Like maidens preparing for a wedding, I see them adorned. Where Soma is pressed and the sacrifice is made ready, the streams of Ghr̥ta flow there.

Stanza 4.58.10

abhy àrṣata suṣṭutíṁ gávyam ājím asmā́su bhadrā́ dráviṇāni dhatta imáṁ yajñáṁ nayata devátā no ghr̥tásya dhā́rā mádhumat pavante

Send to our praise a herd of cattle, bestow excellent riches upon us. Carry this sacrifice to the gods; the streams of Ghr̥ta flow with sweetness.

Stanza 4.58.11

The whole world rests upon your power, within the ocean, within the heart, within all life. May we attain your sweet wave, which is brought together on the waters.
