Stanza 3.34.1

इन्द्रः॑ पू॒र्भिदाति॑र॒द्दास॑म॒र्कैर्वि॒दद्व॑सु॒र्दय॑मानो॒ वि शत्रू॑न् | ब्रह्म॑जूतस्त॒न्वा॑ वावृधा॒नो भूरि॑दात्र॒ आपृ॑ण॒द्रोद॑सी उ॒भे ||

índraḥ pūrbhíd ā́tirad dā́sam arkaír vidádvasur dáyamāno ví śátrūn bráhmajūtas tanvāā̀ vāvr̥dhānó bhū́ridātra ā́pr̥ṇad ródasī ubhé

Indra, the rich and powerful, has torn down forts! With his might, he's crushed the Dasa people. Fueled by prayers and growing stronger, he's filled the earth and sky, being a generous giver.

Stanza 3.34.2

म॒खस्य॑ ते तवि॒षस्य॒ प्र जू॒तिमिय॑र्मि॒ वाच॑म॒मृता॑य॒ भूष॑न् | इन्द्र॑ क्षिती॒नाम॑सि॒ मानु॑षीणां वि॒शां दैवी॑नामु॒त पू॑र्व॒यावा॑ ||

makhásya te taviṣásya prá jūtím íyarmi vā́cam amŕ̥tāya bhū́ṣan índra kṣitīnā́m asi mā́nuṣīṇāṁ viśā́ṁ daívīnām utá pūrvayā́vā

I direct my powerful words, full of praise, towards your amazing strength, O Indra. You are the leader for both the divine beings and all the human communities, like a guide for us.

Stanza 3.34.3

इन्द्रो॑ वृ॒त्रम॑वृणो॒च्छर्ध॑नीतिः॒ प्र मा॒यिना॑ममिना॒द्वर्प॑णीतिः | अह॒न्व्यं॑समु॒शध॒ग्वने॑ष्वा॒विर्धेना॑ अकृणोद्रा॒म्याणा॑म् ||

índro vr̥trám avr̥ṇoc chárdhanītiḥ prá māyínām aminād várpaṇītiḥ áhan vyàṁsam uśádhag váneṣv āvír dhénā akr̥ṇod rāmyā́ṇām

Indra, leading his forces, defeated Vritra. He destroyed the power of the sorcerers. He killed Vyamsa in the forests and revealed the hidden cows, bringing light to them.

Stanza 3.34.4

इन्द्रः॑ स्व॒र्षा ज॒नय॒न्नहा॑नि जि॒गायो॒शिग्भिः॒ पृत॑ना अभि॒ष्टिः | प्रारो॑चय॒न्मन॑वे के॒तुमह्ना॒मवि॑न्द॒ज्ज्योति॑र्बृह॒ते रणा॑य ||

índraḥ svarṣā́ janáyann áhāni jigā́yośígbhiḥ pŕ̥tanā abhiṣṭíḥ prā́rocayan mánave ketúm áhnām ávindaj jyótir br̥haté ráṇāya

Indra, the winner of light, created the days! Victorious in battles, he conquered hostile forces with his helpers. For mankind, he made the bright banner of the days shine, and brought forth light for great joy.

Stanza 3.34.5

इन्द्र॒स्तुजो॑ ब॒र्हणा॒ आ वि॑वेश नृ॒वद्दधा॑नो॒ नर्या॑ पु॒रूणि॑ | अचे॑तय॒द्धिय॑ इ॒मा ज॑रि॒त्रे प्रेमं वर्ण॑मतिरच्छु॒क्रमा॑साम् ||

índras tújo barháṇā ā́ viveśa nr̥vád dádhāno náryā purū́ṇi ácetayad dhíya imā́ jaritré prémáṁ várṇam atirac chukrám āsām

Indra plunged into fierce battles, acting like a hero and performing many great deeds. He understood these thoughts for the singer, and made the bright color of the dawns widely visible.

Stanza 3.34.6

म॒हो म॒हानि॑ पनयन्त्य॒स्येन्द्र॑स्य॒ कर्म॒ सुकृ॑ता पु॒रूणि॑ | वृ॒जने॑न वृजि॒नान्त्सं पि॑पेष मा॒याभि॒र्दस्यूँ॑र॒भिभू॑त्योजाः ||

mahó mahā́ni panayanty asyéndrasya kárma súkr̥tā purū́ṇi vr̥jánena vr̥jinā́n sám pipeṣa māyā́bhir dásyūm̐r abhíbhūtyojāḥ

They praise Indra's great and mighty deeds, his many excellent acts. With his strength and power, he crushed the wicked ones, and with his divine skills, he defeated the Dasyus.

Stanza 3.34.7

यु॒धेन्द्रो॑ म॒ह्ना वरि॑वश्चकार दे॒वेभ्यः॒ सत्प॑तिश्चर्षणि॒प्राः | वि॒वस्व॑तः॒ सद॑ने अस्य॒ तानि॒ विप्रा॑ उ॒क्थेभिः॑ क॒वयो॑ गृणन्ति ||

yudhéndro mahnā́ várivaś cakāra devébhyaḥ sátpatiś carṣaṇiprā́ḥ vivásvataḥ sádane asya tā́ni víprā ukthébhiḥ kaváyo gr̥ṇanti

For the sake of the gods, Indra, the lord of people, created space and freedom with his greatness and strength. In the dwelling of Vivasvan, these deeds of his are celebrated by the wise poets with their hymns.

Stanza 3.34.8

स॒त्रा॒साहं॒ वरे॑ण्यं सहो॒दां स॑स॒वांसं॒ स्व॑र॒पश्च॑ दे॒वीः | स॒सान॒ यः पृ॑थि॒वीं द्यामु॒तेमामिन्द्रं॑ मद॒न्त्यनु॒ धीर॑णासः ||

satrāsā́haṁ váreṇyaṁ sahodā́ṁ sasavā́ṁsaṁ svàr apáś ca devī́ḥ sasā́na yáḥ pr̥thivī́ṁ dyā́m utémā́m índram madanty ánu dhī́raṇāsaḥ

He, the great conqueror, the best one, who obtained strength and the divine waters, has won the earth and the sky. Those who love devotion rejoice in Indra, who has won so much.

Stanza 3.34.9

स॒सानात्याँ॑ उ॒त सूर्यं॑ ससा॒नेन्द्रः॑ ससान पुरु॒भोज॑सं॒ गाम् | हि॒र॒ण्यय॑मु॒त भोगं॑ ससान ह॒त्वी दस्यू॒न्प्रार्यं॒ वर्ण॑मावत् ||

sasā́nā́tyām̐ utá sū́ryaṁ sasānéndraḥ sasāna purubhójasaṁ gā́m hiraṇyáyam utá bhógaṁ sasāna hatvī́ dásyūn prā́ryaṁ várṇam āvat

He won the horses and the sun, and Indra won the cow that gives much food. He also won golden treasure. After defeating the Dasyus, he brought forth the Aryan people and their culture.

Stanza 3.34.10

इन्द्र॒ ओष॑धीरसनो॒दहा॑नि॒ वन॒स्पतीँ॑रसनोद॒न्तरि॑क्षम् | बि॒भेद॑ व॒लं नु॑नु॒दे विवा॒चोऽथा॑भवद्दमि॒ताभिक्र॑तूनाम् ||

índra óṣadhīr asanod áhāni vánaspátīm̐r asanod antárikṣam bibhéda valáṁ nunudé vívācó 'thābhavad damitā́bhíkratūnām

Indra took possession of the plants and the days. He obtained the trees and the atmospheric region. He broke through Vala, and drove away his rivals. Then he became the master of those who are overly proud.

Stanza 3.34.11

शु॒नं हु॑वेम म॒घवा॑न॒मिन्द्र॑म॒स्मिन्भरे॒ नृत॑मं॒ वाज॑सातौ | शृ॒ण्वन्त॑मु॒ग्रमू॒तये॑ स॒मत्सु॒ घ्नन्तं॑ वृ॒त्राणि॑ सं॒जितं॒ धना॑नाम् ||

śunáṁ huvema maghávānam índram asmín bháre nŕ̥tamaṁ vā́jasātau śr̥ṇvántam ugrám ūtáye samátsu ghnántaṁ vr̥trā́ṇi saṁjítaṁ dhánānām

Let us joyfully call upon Indra, the generous one, the best hero in the battle for abundance. He hears us, the mighty one, who helps in battles, killing enemies and winning all treasures.
