Stanza 3.30.1

इ॒च्छन्ति॑ त्वा सो॒म्यासः॒ सखा॑यः सु॒न्वन्ति॒ सोमं॒ दध॑ति॒ प्रयां॑सि | तिति॑क्षन्ते अ॒भिश॑स्तिं॒ जना॑ना॒मिन्द्र॒ त्वदा कश्च॒न हि प्र॑के॒तः ||

ichánti tvā somyā́saḥ sákhāyaḥ sunvánti sómaṁ dádhati práyāṁsi títikṣante abhíśastiṁ jánānām índra tvád ā́ káś caná hí praketáḥ

Oh Indra, your friends who are pressing Soma and making offerings really want you here! They're facing all sorts of criticism from people, but they can handle it because they know all their understanding comes from you.

Stanza 3.30.2

न ते॑ दू॒रे प॑र॒मा चि॒द्रजां॒स्या तु प्र या॑हि हरिवो॒ हरि॑भ्याम् | स्थि॒राय॒ वृष्णे॒ सव॑ना कृ॒तेमा यु॒क्ता ग्रावा॑णः समिधा॒ने अ॒ग्नौ ||

ná te dūré paramā́ cid rájāṁsy ā́ tú prá yāhi harivo háribhyām sthirā́ya vŕ̥ṣṇe sávanā kr̥témā́ yuktā́ grā́vāṇaḥ samidhāné agnaú

Indra, lord of horses, don't stay far away! Even the highest places aren't too distant for you. Come here with your swift horses! These sacrifices are ready for you, the strong one; the pressing stones are in place, and the fire is burning.

Stanza 3.30.3

इन्द्रः॑ सु॒शिप्रो॑ म॒घवा॒ तरु॑त्रो म॒हाव्रा॑तस्तुविकू॒र्मिर्ऋघा॑वान् | यदु॒ग्रो धा बा॑धि॒तो मर्त्ये॑षु॒ क्व१॒॑ त्या ते॑ वृषभ वी॒र्या॑णि ||

índraḥ suśípro maghávā tárutro mahā́vrātas tuvikūrmír ŕ̥ghāvān yád ugró dhā́ bādhitó mártyeṣu kvà tyā́ te vr̥ṣabha vīryāā̀ṇi

Indra, with your beautiful face, you're generous, a conqueror, the leader of many, and strong! You who defeated and caused trouble for mortals - where have those powerful deeds of yours gone now, O Bull?

Stanza 3.30.4

त्वं हि ष्मा॑ च्या॒वय॒न्नच्यु॑ता॒न्येको॑ वृ॒त्रा चर॑सि॒ जिघ्न॑मानः | तव॒ द्यावा॑पृथि॒वी पर्व॑ता॒सोऽनु॑ व्र॒ताय॒ निमि॑तेव तस्थुः ||

tváṁ hí ṣmā cyāváyann ácyutāny éko vr̥trā́ cárasi jíghnamānaḥ táva dyā́vāpr̥thivī́ párvatāsó 'nu vratā́ya nímiteva tasthuḥ

You alone, Indra, shake the unshakeable things and move alone, destroying enemies. The mountains, heaven, and earth stand firm, like they are established by your cosmic law.

Stanza 3.30.5

उ॒ताभ॑ये पुरुहूत॒ श्रवो॑भि॒रेको॑ दृ॒ळ्हम॑वदो वृत्र॒हा सन् | इ॒मे चि॑दिन्द्र॒ रोद॑सी अपा॒रे यत्सं॑गृ॒भ्णा म॑घवन्का॒शिरित्ते॑ ||

utā́bhaye puruhūta śrávobhir éko dr̥ḷhám avado vr̥trahā́ sán imé cid indra ródasī apāré yát saṁgr̥bhṇā́ maghavan kāśír ít te

O much-invoked one, through your glories, you alone, the slayer of Vritra, have spoken truth. These two boundless worlds, O Indra, are like a handful to you when you grasp them.

Stanza 3.30.6

प्र सू त॑ इन्द्र प्र॒वता॒ हरि॑भ्यां॒ प्र ते॒ वज्रः॑ प्रमृ॒णन्ने॑तु॒ शत्रू॑न् | ज॒हि प्र॑ती॒चो अ॑नू॒चः परा॑चो॒ विश्वं॑ स॒त्यं कृ॑णुहि वि॒ष्टम॑स्तु ||

prá sū́ ta indra pravátā háribhyām prá te vájraḥ pramr̥ṇánn etu śátrūn jahí pratīcó anūcáḥ párāco víśvaṁ satyáṁ kr̥ṇuhi viṣṭám astu

O Indra, let your thunderbolt surge forth with your horses down the slopes! Let it crush your enemies. Strike down those who face you, those who are behind you, and those who flee. Make your promise completely true; let everything be accomplished.

Stanza 3.30.7

यस्मै॒ धायु॒रद॑धा॒ मर्त्या॒याभ॑क्तं चिद्भजते गे॒ह्यं१॒॑ सः | भ॒द्रा त॑ इन्द्र सुम॒तिर्घृ॒ताची॑ स॒हस्र॑दाना पुरुहूत रा॒तिः ||

yásmai dhā́yur ádadhā mártyāyā́bhaktaṁ cid bhajate gehyàṁ sáḥ bhadrā́ ta indra sumatír ghr̥tā́cī sahásradānā puruhūta rātíḥ

The person for whom you, Indra, provide sustenance, enjoys undivided domestic prosperity. Your favor, Indra, is indeed blessed and bountiful. O much-invoked one, may your gifts be abundant!

Stanza 3.30.8

स॒हदा॑नुं पुरुहूत क्षि॒यन्त॑मह॒स्तमि॑न्द्र॒ सं पि॑ण॒क्कुणा॑रुम् | अ॒भि वृ॒त्रं वर्ध॑मानं॒ पिया॑रुम॒पाद॑मिन्द्र त॒वसा॑ जघन्थ ||

sahádānum puruhūta kṣiyántam ahastám indra sám piṇak kúṇārum abhí vr̥tráṁ várdhamānam píyārum apā́dam indra tavásā jaghantha

O much-invoked Indra, you crushed Sahadānu, who lived with Dānu. You, Indra, struck down Kuṇāru, who had no hands, and Piyāru, and the footless Vritra as he grew stronger.

Stanza 3.30.9

नि सा॑म॒नामि॑षि॒रामि॑न्द्र॒ भूमिं॑ म॒हीम॑पा॒रां सद॑ने ससत्थ | अस्त॑भ्ना॒द्द्यां वृ॑ष॒भो अ॒न्तरि॑क्ष॒मर्ष॒न्त्वाप॒स्त्वये॒ह प्रसू॑ताः ||

ní sāmanā́m iṣirā́m indra bhū́mim mahī́m apārā́ṁ sádane sasattha ástabhnād dyā́ṁ vr̥ṣabhó antárikṣam árṣantv ā́pas tváyehá prásūtāḥ

O Bull, you have established the vast, vigorous, and boundless earth in its place. You have supported the sky and the atmosphere. Let the waters, released by you, flow to us here.

Stanza 3.30.10

अ॒ला॒तृ॒णो व॒ल इ॑न्द्र व्र॒जो गोः पु॒रा हन्तो॒र्भय॑मानो॒ व्या॑र | सु॒गान्प॒थो अ॑कृणोन्नि॒रजे॒ गाः प्राव॒न्वाणीः॑ पुरुहू॒तं धम॑न्तीः ||

alātr̥ṇó valá indra vrajó góḥ purā́ hántor bháyamāno vy āā̀ra sugā́n pathó akr̥ṇon niráje gā́ḥ prā́van vā́ṇīḥ puruhūtáṁ dhámantīḥ

O Indra, the one who blocked the cows' enclosure, fearing your blow, released them. He made the paths easy for driving the cows. Praises, like a powerful breath, helped the much-invoked one.

Stanza 3.30.11

एको॒ द्वे वसु॑मती समी॒ची इन्द्र॒ आ प॑प्रौ पृथि॒वीमु॒त द्याम् | उ॒तान्तरि॑क्षाद॒भि नः॑ समी॒क इ॒षो र॒थीः स॒युजः॑ शूर॒ वाजा॑न् ||

éko dvé vásumatī samīcī́ índra ā́ paprau pr̥thivī́m utá dyā́m utā́ntárikṣād abhí naḥ samīká iṣó rathī́ḥ sayújaḥ śūra vā́jān

Indra alone filled the earth and the sky, the two treasures that are together. O Hero, bring us strength and sustenance from the atmosphere. Your chariot, O Indra, and your riches, O powerful one!

Stanza 3.30.12

दिशः॒ सूर्यो॒ न मि॑नाति॒ प्रदि॑ष्टा दि॒वेदि॑वे॒ हर्य॑श्वप्रसूताः | सं यदान॒ळध्व॑न॒ आदिदश्वै॑र्वि॒मोच॑नं कृणुते॒ तत्त्व॑स्य ||

díśaḥ sū́ryo ná mināti prádiṣṭā divé-dive háryaśvaprasūtāḥ sáṁ yád ā́naḷ ádhvana ā́d íd áśvair vimócanaṁ kr̥ṇute tát tv àsya

The sun does not overstep its bounds, day after day, driven by the one with bay horses. When it reaches its goal, having completed its course, it looses its horses. This is indeed Indra's doing.

Stanza 3.30.13

दिदृ॑क्षन्त उ॒षसो॒ याम॑न्न॒क्तोर्वि॒वस्व॑त्या॒ महि॑ चि॒त्रमनी॑कम् | विश्वे॑ जानन्ति महि॒ना यदागा॒दिन्द्र॑स्य॒ कर्म॒ सुकृ॑ता पु॒रूणि॑ ||

dídr̥kṣanta uṣáso yā́mann aktór vivásvatyā máhi citrám ánīkam víśve jānanti mahinā́ yád ā́gād índrasya kárma súkr̥tā purū́ṇi

People desire to see the dawn during the night, with its bright and wonderful appearance. All know its greatness when it arrives. They recognize the many good deeds of Indra that come.

Stanza 3.30.14

महि॒ ज्योति॒र्निहि॑तं व॒क्षणा॑स्वा॒मा प॒क्वं च॑रति॒ बिभ्र॑ती॒ गौः | विश्वं॒ स्वाद्म॒ सम्भृ॑तमु॒स्रिया॑यां॒ यत्सी॒मिन्द्रो॒ अद॑धा॒द्भोज॑नाय ||

máhi jyótir níhitaṁ vakṣáṇāsv āmā́ pakváṁ carati bíbhratī gaúḥ víśvaṁ svā́dma sámbhr̥tam usríyāyāṁ yát sīm índro ádadhād bhójanāya

A great light rests in her udders; the Cow, unripened, moves with ripened milk. All sweetness is collected in the Heifer. That which Indra placed for our enjoyment.

Stanza 3.30.15

इन्द्र॒ दृह्य॑ यामको॒शा अ॑भूवन्य॒ज्ञाय॑ शिक्ष गृण॒ते सखि॑भ्यः | दु॒र्मा॒यवो॑ दु॒रेवा॒ मर्त्या॑सो निष॒ङ्गिणो॑ रि॒पवो॒ हन्त्वा॑सः ||

índra dŕ̥hya yāmakośā́ abhūvan yajñā́ya śikṣa gr̥ṇaté sákhibhyaḥ durmāyávo durévā mártyāso niṣaṅgíṇo ripávo hántvāsaḥ

Indra, be strong! The obstacles have appeared. Help the one who sings for the sacrifice and for your friends. Strike down the evil, deceitful mortals, our quiver-bearing enemies.

Stanza 3.30.16

सं घोषः॑ शृण्वेऽव॒मैर॒मित्रै॑र्ज॒ही न्ये॑ष्व॒शनिं॒ तपि॑ष्ठाम् | वृ॒श्चेम॒धस्ता॒द्वि रु॑जा॒ सह॑स्व ज॒हि रक्षो॑ मघवन्र॒न्धय॑स्व ||

sáṁ ghóṣaḥ śr̥ṇve 'vamaír amítrair jahī́ ny èṣv aśániṁ tápiṣṭhām vr̥ścém adhástād ví rujā sáhasva jahí rákṣo maghavan randháyasva

A cry is heard from enemies near us! Send your fiercest weapon against them. Strike them from below, shatter them, and subdue them. Slay the demons, O Maghavan, and make them booty.

Stanza 3.30.17

उद्वृ॑ह॒ रक्षः॑ स॒हमू॑लमिन्द्र वृ॒श्चा मध्यं॒ प्रत्यग्रं॑ शृणीहि | आ कीव॑तः सल॒लूकं॑ चकर्थ ब्रह्म॒द्विषे॒ तपु॑षिं हे॒तिम॑स्य ||

úd vr̥ha rákṣaḥ sahámūlam indra vr̥ścā́ mádhyam práty ágraṁ śr̥ṇīhi ā́ kī́vataḥ salalū́kaṁ cakartha brahmadvíṣe tápuṣiṁ hetím asya

O Indra, uproot the demons, tear them in the middle and at the front! How long will you waver? Cast your burning weapon at him who hates devotion.

Stanza 3.30.18

स्व॒स्तये॑ वा॒जिभि॑श्च प्रणेतः॒ सं यन्म॒हीरिष॑ आ॒सत्सि॑ पू॒र्वीः | रा॒यो व॒न्तारो॑ बृह॒तः स्या॑मा॒स्मे अ॑स्तु॒ भग॑ इन्द्र प्र॒जावा॑न् ||

svastáye vājíbhiś ca praṇetaḥ sáṁ yán mahī́r íṣa āsátsi pūrvī́ḥ rāyó vantā́ro br̥hatáḥ syāmāsmé astu bhága indra prajā́vān

O Leader, may we move towards well-being with strong horses and ample riches. May we be winners of great wealth. May we have fortune, O Indra, and be endowed with offspring!

Stanza 3.30.19

आ नो॑ भर॒ भग॑मिन्द्र द्यु॒मन्तं॒ नि ते॑ दे॒ष्णस्य॑ धीमहि प्ररे॒के | ऊ॒र्व इ॑व पप्रथे॒ कामो॑ अ॒स्मे तमा पृ॑ण वसुपते॒ वसू॑नाम् ||

ā́ no bhara bhágam indra dyumántaṁ ní te deṣṇásya dhīmahi prareké ūrvá iva paprathe kā́mo asmé tám ā́ pr̥ṇa vasupate vásūnām

O Indra, bring us radiant wealth. May we enjoy your abundant gifts. Our longing has spread wide like the ocean. Fulfill it, O Lord of treasures!

Stanza 3.30.20

इ॒मं कामं॑ मन्दया॒ गोभि॒रश्वै॑श्च॒न्द्रव॑ता॒ राध॑सा प॒प्रथ॑श्च | स्व॒र्यवो॑ म॒तिभि॒स्तुभ्यं॒ विप्रा॒ इन्द्रा॑य॒ वाहः॑ कुशि॒कासो॑ अक्रन् ||

imáṁ kā́mam mandayā góbhir áśvaiś candrávatā rā́dhasā papráthaś ca svaryávo matíbhis túbhyaṁ víprā índrāya vā́haḥ kuśikā́so akran

O Indra, satisfy this desire with cows, horses, and shining wealth. Expand with your gifts. We sages, seeking light, bring our offerings to you with our thoughts and songs.

Stanza 3.30.21

आ नो॑ गो॒त्रा द॑र्दृहि गोपते॒ गाः सम॒स्मभ्यं॑ स॒नयो॑ यन्तु॒ वाजाः॑ | दि॒वक्षा॑ असि वृषभ स॒त्यशु॑ष्मो॒ऽस्मभ्यं॒ सु म॑घवन्बोधि गो॒दाः ||

ā́ no gotrā́ dardr̥hi gopate gā́ḥ sám asmábhyaṁ sanáyo yantu vā́jāḥ divákṣā asi vr̥ṣabha satyáśuṣmo 'smábhyaṁ sú maghavan bodhi godā́ḥ

O Lord of the kine, break open the cow-pens! May wealth and strength that wins booty come to us. You are heaven-seeking, O Bull, with true might. Be mindful, O Indra, giver of cattle!

Stanza 3.30.22

शु॒नं हु॑वेम म॒घवा॑न॒मिन्द्र॑म॒स्मिन्भरे॒ नृत॑मं॒ वाज॑सातौ | शृ॒ण्वन्त॑मु॒ग्रमू॒तये॑ स॒मत्सु॒ घ्नन्तं॑ वृ॒त्राणि॑ सं॒जितं॒ धना॑नाम् ||

śunáṁ huvema maghávānam índram asmín bháre nŕ̥tamaṁ vā́jasātau śr̥ṇvántam ugrám ūtáye samátsu ghnántaṁ vr̥trā́ṇi saṁjítaṁ dhánānām

Let us call on auspicious Indra, the best hero in this fight for riches. The strong one who listens, who aids in battles, who slays the Vritras, and wins riches.
