स॒मि॒ध्यमा॑नः प्रथ॒मानु॒ धर्मा॒ सम॒क्तुभि॑रज्यते वि॒श्ववा॑रः | शो॒चिष्के॑शो घृ॒तनि॑र्णिक्पाव॒कः सु॑य॒ज्ञो अ॒ग्निर्य॒जथा॑य दे॒वान् ||
samidhyámānaḥ prathamā́nu dhármā sám aktúbhir ajyate viśvávāraḥ śocíṣkeśo ghr̥tánirṇik pāvakáḥ suyajñó agnír yajáthāya devā́n
Agni, the fire god, is being lit up, following the old ways, and dressed with special ointments. He's got a fiery look, shining with ghee, and he's the one who makes things pure. He's expertly setting up the sacrifice to invite the gods.

Hey Agni, you've done such a great job performing rituals for Earth and Heaven before, and you're so smart about it! Now, use this offering to sacrifice to the gods just like you always do. Make sure this sacrifice goes perfectly today, just like you did for the people before.

Agni, you have three lives and three births from the dawn! Since you are so wise, use these to get the gods' favor for us. And bring good luck and peace to the person who is making this offering.

We are singing praises and honoring you, Agni! You are so bright and beautiful, O Jâtavedas. The gods have made you their messenger, the one who carries their offerings, and the very center of immortality.

Agni, just like the great priest who came before you, who was so good at sacrificing and brought so much good fortune, please perform this sacrifice according to his methods. You are wise, so help us place this offering correctly so the gods can enjoy it.
