Stanza 2.4.1

huvé vaḥ sudyótmānaṁ suvr̥ktíṁ viśā́m agním átithiṁ suprayásam mitrá iva yó didhiṣā́yyo bhū́d devá ā́deve jáne jātávedāḥ

I call upon you, Agni, who shines so brightly and is so worthy of praise! You are the guest of all communities, offering great abundance. Like a dear friend, you are someone to be cherished. You are God among gods, and Jātavedas, the one who knows all things.

Stanza 2.4.2

The Bhrigus, honoring Agni in the waters' abode, established him among the clans of Ayu. May Agni, the gods' overseer with swift steeds, surpass all worlds!

Stanza 2.4.3

The gods established beloved Agni among people as a treasured friend for those settling in. May he shine brightly, warding off the longing nights, revealing his power to the generous worshipper in their home.

Stanza 2.4.4

His delightful prosperity is like one's own increase! His appearance when rushing to burn is so captivating. Like a harnessed horse shaking its flowing tail, he darts his tongue among the plants, with potent energy.

Stanza 2.4.5

ā́ yán me ábhvaṁ vanádaḥ pánantośígbhyo nā́mimīta várṇam sá citréṇa cikite ráṁsu bhāsā́ jujurvā́m̐ yó múhur ā́ yúvā bhū́t

When they praised Agni's awesome power – the eater of forests – he revealed his radiant form to his devotees. He is recognized by his shining splendor, and though he ages, he is ever renewed, appearing youthful.

Stanza 2.4.6

Agni shines on the forests, like one thirsty, and his roar echoes like water on its path, or chariot wheels. His trail is dark, yet he shines with joyful heat, like the sky smiling through the clouds.

Stanza 2.4.7

Agni spreads out, consuming the wide earth. He moves freely like an un-herded ox. Radiant and burning, he consumes the brushwood, leaving a dark trail, as if he were seasoning the earth.

Stanza 2.4.8

Now, remembering your past help, I recite this hymn in our third gathering. Agni, grant us strength, heroic men, abundant food, and wealth with good descendants!

Stanza 2.4.9

tváyā yáthā gr̥tsamadā́so agne gúhā vanvánta úparām̐ abhí ṣyúḥ suvī́rāso abhimātiṣā́haḥ smát sūríbhyo gr̥ṇaté tád váyo dhāḥ

Agni, grant strength to us and our generous patrons! May the Gritsamadas, rich in heroes and victorious over enemies, overcome their rivals, achieving their goals with your help, even in secret.
