Stanza 2.35.1

उपे॑मसृक्षि वाज॒युर्व॑च॒स्यां चनो॑ दधीत ना॒द्यो गिरो॑ मे | अ॒पां नपा॑दाशु॒हेमा॑ कु॒वित्स सु॒पेश॑सस्करति॒ जोषि॑ष॒द्धि ||

úpem asr̥kṣi vājayúr vacasyā́ṁ cáno dadhīta nādyó gíro me apā́ṁ nápād āśuhémā kuvít sá supéśasas karati jóṣiṣad dhí

Eager for success, I'm sending out my words and songs. May the Son of Waters gladly accept them! Will he not, this swift son of the waters, make them beautiful? After all, he's the one who will enjoy them.

Stanza 2.35.2

इ॒मं स्व॑स्मै हृ॒द आ सुत॑ष्टं॒ मन्त्रं॑ वोचेम कु॒विद॑स्य॒ वेद॑त् | अ॒पां नपा॑दसु॒र्य॑स्य म॒ह्ना विश्वा॑न्य॒र्यो भुव॑ना जजान ||

imáṁ sv àsmai hr̥dá ā́ sútaṣṭam mántraṁ vocema kuvíd asya védat apā́ṁ nápād asuryàsya mahnā́ víśvāny aryó bhúvanā jajāna

From our hearts, let's offer him this well-made hymn! Maybe he'll notice it. By the greatness of his divine power, the Son of Waters has created all the worlds.

Stanza 2.35.3

सम॒न्या यन्त्युप॑ यन्त्य॒न्याः स॑मा॒नमू॒र्वं न॒द्यः॑ पृणन्ति | तमू॒ शुचिं॒ शुच॑यो दीदि॒वांस॑म॒पां नपा॑तं॒ परि॑ तस्थु॒रापः॑ ||

sám anyā́ yánty úpa yanty anyā́ḥ samānám ūrváṁ nadyàḥ pr̥ṇanti tám ū śúciṁ śúcayo dīdivā́ṁsam apā́ṁ nápātam pári tasthur ā́paḥ

Some rivers flow together, others join them, filling one common expanse. The pure streams surround the radiant Son of Waters, who is pure and shining brightly.

Stanza 2.35.4

तमस्मे॑रा युव॒तयो॒ युवा॑नं मर्मृ॒ज्यमा॑नाः॒ परि॑ य॒न्त्यापः॑ | स शु॒क्रेभिः॒ शिक्व॑भी रे॒वद॒स्मे दी॒दाया॑नि॒ध्मो घृ॒तनि॑र्णिग॒प्सु ||

tám ásmerā yuvatáyo yúvānam marmr̥jyámānāḥ pári yanty ā́paḥ sá śukrébhiḥ śíkvabhī revád asmé dīdā́yānidhmó ghr̥tánirṇig apsú

The youthful waters, always attentive, surround the "Son of Waters" as he shines. He is adorned with bright, sharp energies, bathed in clarity, needing no external fuel.

Stanza 2.35.5

अ॒स्मै ति॒स्रो अ॑व्य॒थ्याय॒ नारी॑र्दे॒वाय॑ दे॒वीर्दि॑धिष॒न्त्यन्न॑म् | कृता॑ इ॒वोप॒ हि प्र॑स॒र्स्रे अ॒प्सु स पी॒यूषं॑ धयति पूर्व॒सूना॑म् ||

asmaí tisró avyathyā́ya nā́rīr devā́ya devī́r didhiṣanty ánnam kŕ̥tā ivópa hí prasarsré apsú sá pīyū́ṣaṁ dhayati pūrvasū́nām

Three divine maidens are eagerly offering food to the inviolable god. He seems to approach them within the waters, drinking the nourishment from these first, fertile sources.

Stanza 2.35.6

अश्व॒स्यात्र॒ जनि॑मा॒स्य च॒ स्व॑र्द्रु॒हो रि॒षः स॒म्पृचः॑ पाहि सू॒रीन् | आ॒मासु॑ पू॒र्षु प॒रो अ॑प्रमृ॒ष्यं नारा॑तयो॒ वि न॑श॒न्नानृ॑तानि ||

áśvasyā́tra jánimāsyá ca svàr druhó riṣáḥ sampŕ̥caḥ pāhi sūrī́n āmā́su pūrṣú paró apramr̥ṣyáṁ nā́rātayo ví naśan nā́nr̥tāni

Here lies the origin of the horse, connected to earth and heaven. Protect our leaders from harm and malice! That indestructible being, dwelling far off in inaccessible places, cannot be reached by enemies or untruths.

Stanza 2.35.7

स्व आ दमे॑ सु॒दुघा॒ यस्य॑ धे॒नुः स्व॒धां पी॑पाय सु॒भ्वन्न॑मत्ति | सो अ॒पां नपा॑दू॒र्जय॑न्न॒प्स्व१॒॑न्तर्व॑सु॒देया॑य विध॒ते वि भा॑ति ||

svá ā́ dáme sudúghā yásya dhenúḥ svadhā́m pīpāya subhv ánnam atti só apā́ṁ nápād ūrjáyann apsv àntár vasudéyāya vidhaté ví bhāti

In his home, there's a cow providing plenty. He enhances vital force and eats good food. The Son of Waters grows strong in the waters, shining for the devoted worshipper, offering wealth.

Stanza 2.35.8

यो अ॒प्स्वा शुचि॑ना॒ दैव्ये॑न ऋ॒तावाज॑स्र उर्वि॒या वि॒भाति॑ | व॒या इद॒न्या भुव॑नान्यस्य॒ प्र जा॑यन्ते वी॒रुध॑श्च प्र॒जाभिः॑ ||

yó apsv ā́ śúcinā daívyena r̥tā́vā́jasra urviyā́ vibhā́ti vayā́ íd anyā́ bhúvanāny asya prá jāyante vīrúdhaś ca prajā́bhiḥ

He who shines brightly in the waters with divine purity and eternal order is everlasting. From him, like branches from a tree, all other worlds and living things, including plants, are born.

Stanza 2.35.9

अ॒पां नपा॒दा ह्यस्था॑दु॒पस्थं॑ जि॒ह्माना॑मू॒र्ध्वो वि॒द्युतं॒ वसा॑नः | तस्य॒ ज्येष्ठं॑ महि॒मानं॒ वह॑न्ती॒र्हिर॑ण्यवर्णाः॒ परि॑ यन्ति य॒ह्वीः ||

apā́ṁ nápād ā́ hy ásthād upásthaṁ jihmā́nām ūrdhvó vidyútaṁ vásānaḥ tásya jyéṣṭham mahimā́naṁ váhantīr híraṇyavarṇāḥ pári yanti yahvī́ḥ

The Son of Waters has ascended to the cloud's embrace, clothed in lightning. Carrying his greatest glory, the swift, golden streams flow around him.

Stanza 2.35.10

हिर॑ण्यरूपः॒ स हिर॑ण्यसंदृग॒पां नपा॒त्सेदु॒ हिर॑ण्यवर्णः | हि॒र॒ण्यया॒त्परि॒ योने॑र्नि॒षद्या॑ हिरण्य॒दा द॑द॒त्यन्न॑मस्मै ||

híraṇyarūpaḥ sá híraṇyasaṁdr̥g apā́ṁ nápāt séd u híraṇyavarṇaḥ hiraṇyáyāt pári yóner niṣádyā hiraṇyadā́ dadaty ánnam asmai

The Son of Waters, golden in form and color, emerges from his golden origin. Those who give gold offer him food as he sits.

Stanza 2.35.11

तद॒स्यानी॑कमु॒त चारु॒ नामा॑पी॒च्यं॑ वर्धते॒ नप्तु॑र॒पाम् | यमि॒न्धते॑ युव॒तयः॒ समि॒त्था हिर॑ण्यवर्णं घृ॒तमन्न॑मस्य ||

tád asyā́nīkam utá cā́ru nā́māpīcyàṁ vardhate náptur apā́m yám indháte yuvatáyaḥ sám itthā́ híraṇyavarṇaṁ ghr̥tám ánnam asya

His beautiful form and name grow mysteriously. The youthful divine powers kindle him together, offering him golden ghee as food.

Stanza 2.35.12

अ॒स्मै ब॑हू॒नाम॑व॒माय॒ सख्ये॑ य॒ज्ञैर्वि॑धेम॒ नम॑सा ह॒विर्भिः॑ | सं सानु॒ मार्ज्मि॒ दिधि॑षामि॒ बिल्मै॒र्दधा॒म्यन्नैः॒ परि॑ वन्द ऋ॒ग्भिः ||

asmaí bahūnā́m avamā́ya sákhye yajñaír vidhema námasā havírbhiḥ sáṁ sā́nu mā́rjmi dídhiṣāmi bílmair dádhāmy ánnaiḥ pári vanda r̥gbhíḥ

To him, our closest friend, we offer worship with sacrifices and reverence. We will polish his form, feed him with offerings, and praise him with hymns.

Stanza 2.35.13

स ईं॒ वृषा॑जनय॒त्तासु॒ गर्भं॒ स ईं॒ शिशु॑र्धयति॒ तं रि॑हन्ति | सो अ॒पां नपा॒दन॑भिम्लातवर्णो॒ऽन्यस्ये॑वे॒ह त॒न्वा॑ विवेष ||

sá īṁ vŕ̥ṣājanayat tā́su gárbhaṁ sá īṁ śíśur dhayati táṁ rihanti só apā́ṁ nápād ánabhimlātavarṇo 'nyásyevehá tanvāā̀ viveṣa

Like a bull, he generated his essence within the waters. Like an infant, he draws from them, and they cherish him. This Son of Waters, unchanging in his brilliance, has entered into a form here as if it were another's.

Stanza 2.35.14

अ॒स्मिन्प॒दे प॑र॒मे त॑स्थि॒वांस॑मध्व॒स्मभि॑र्वि॒श्वहा॑ दीदि॒वांस॑म् | आपो॒ नप्त्रे॑ घृ॒तमन्नं॒ वह॑न्तीः स्व॒यमत्कैः॒ परि॑ दीयन्ति य॒ह्वीः ||

asmín padé paramé tasthivā́ṁsam adhvasmábhir viśváhā dīdivā́ṁsam ā́po náptre ghr̥tám ánnaṁ váhantīḥ svayám átkaiḥ pári dīyanti yahvī́ḥ

He dwells in the highest place, shining eternally with radiant energy. The swift waters, bringing ghee as food for their offspring, flow around him.

Stanza 2.35.15

अयां॑समग्ने सुक्षि॒तिं जना॒यायां॑समु म॒घव॑द्भ्यः सुवृ॒क्तिम् | विश्वं॒ तद्भ॒द्रं यदव॑न्ति दे॒वा बृ॒हद्व॑देम वि॒दथे॑ सु॒वीराः॑ ||

áyāṁsam agne sukṣitíṁ jánāyā́yāṁsam u maghávadbhyaḥ suvr̥ktím víśvaṁ tád bhadráṁ yád ávanti devā́ br̥hád vadema vidáthe suvī́rāḥ

Agni, I have provided good shelter for the people and a worthy offering for our patrons. All that the gods favor is blessed. May we speak grandly in assembly with our heroes!
