The Maruts, with rain-bringing and powerful energy, fierce like wild beasts in their strength, blazing like fires, and impetuous, have pushed aside the clouds, revealing the cows (of rain).

Stanza 2.34.2

Like the sky adorned with stars, they shone with their armlets; they flashed like lightning from clouds. This happened when the mighty Rudra was born for you, O golden-chested Maruts, from Prisni's radiant lap.

Stanza 2.34.3

They cleansed their horses like racers in the contests, and hurried with swift steeds. O golden-jawed Maruts, shaking violently, you arrive with your spotted companions, like friends, to the feast.

Stanza 2.34.4

All these worlds have grown through them, like a feast for Mitra, ever-flowing ones. Spotted-horsed Maruts, with inexhaustible wealth, move powerfully in their paths.

Stanza 2.34.5

Come, O brilliant-speared Maruts, on smooth paths with your fiery cows whose udders are swelling! Like swans to their nests, come, of one mind, for the joy of the sweet offering.

Stanza 2.34.6

ā́ no bráhmāṇi marutaḥ samanyavo narā́ṁ ná śáṁsaḥ sávanāni gantana áśvām iva pipyata dhenúm ū́dhani kártā dhíyaṁ jaritré vā́japeśasam

O united Maruts, come to our prayers and libations, like the praises of heroes! Grow like a cow's udder, and create great, enjoyable success for the singer.

Stanza 2.34.7

O Maruts, give us that powerful strength for our chariot, that daily-invoked prayer and sustenance! Grant food to the praisers, and to the poet in our homes, wisdom, inviolable and unconquerable might.

Stanza 2.34.8

When the golden-chested Maruts harness their horses to their chariots, as bounteous givers, then, like a cow in her fold feeding her calf, they bestow abundant food upon people who offer sacrifices.

Stanza 2.34.9

yó no maruto vr̥kátāti mártyo ripúr dadhé vasavo rákṣatā riṣáḥ vartáyata tápuṣā cakríyābhí tám áva rudrā aśáso hantanā vádhaḥ

O Maruts, O Vasus, protect us from harm! Shield us from any mortal enemy who might put us among wolves. Turn your burning chariots against him, O Rudras, and strike down the weapon of the impious!

Stanza 2.34.10

citráṁ tád vo maruto yā́ma cekite pŕ̥śnyā yád ū́dhar ápy āpáyo duhúḥ yád vā nidé návamānasya rudriyās tritáṁ járāya juratā́m adābhyāḥ

Your march, O Maruts, is known to be brilliant, whether friends have milked the udder of Prisni. Or, O Rudras, if you mean to blame the one who praises, you weaken Trita; O unassailable ones!

Stanza 2.34.11

We invoke you, O great Maruts, constant travelers, at the offering of swift Vishnu! Holding ladles and prayerful, we ask the golden, exalted Maruts for praiseworthy wealth.

Stanza 2.34.12

They, the Dasagvas, first carried the sacrifice; may they inspire us at the break of dawn! Like the dawn, they uncover the dark nights with red brilliance, strong ones, with their bright light like a sea of milk.

Stanza 2.34.13

These Rudras, with the red clouds like ornaments, have grown great in the sacred places. Streaming down with rushing speed, they have assumed a bright and beautiful form.

Stanza 2.34.14

Approaching them for their great protection to help us, we invoke them with this worship. May they come, like Trita with the five priests for victory, bringing their chariot to aid us.

Stanza 2.34.15

yáyā radhrám pāráyathā́ty áṁho yáyā nidó muñcátha vanditā́ram arvā́cī sā́ maruto yā́ va ūtír ó ṣú vāśréva sumatír jigātu

May that grace of yours, by which you help the wretched across hardship, and free the worshipper from insult, come hither, O Maruts! May your favor approach us like a cow (going to her calf)!
