Stanza 2.30.1

ऋ॒तं दे॒वाय॑ कृण्व॒ते स॑वि॒त्र इन्द्रा॑याहि॒घ्ने न र॑मन्त॒ आपः॑ | अह॑रहर्यात्य॒क्तुर॒पां किया॒त्या प्र॑थ॒मः सर्ग॑ आसाम् ||

r̥táṁ devā́ya kr̥ṇvaté savitrá índrāyāhighné ná ramanta ā́paḥ áhar-ahar yāty aktúr apā́ṁ kíyāty ā́ prathamáḥ sárga āsām

Hey, you waters, that keep flowing, don't you get bored? You're heading towards Indra, the one who defeats evil, and Savitr, the sun god. Day after day, you flow so steadily. When did this amazing journey of yours even begin?

Stanza 2.30.2

यो वृ॒त्राय॒ सिन॒मत्राभ॑रिष्य॒त्प्र तं जनि॑त्री वि॒दुष॑ उवाच | प॒थो रद॑न्ती॒रनु॒ जोष॑मस्मै दि॒वेदि॑वे॒ धुन॑यो य॒न्त्यर्थ॑म् ||

yó vr̥trā́ya sínam átrā́bhariṣyat prá táṁ jánitrī vidúṣa uvāca pathó rádantīr ánu jóṣam asmai divé-dive dhúnayo yanty ártham

His mother, wise and knowing, told him what he was about to do – to throw his weapon. And just as she wished, the rivers, shaping their paths, flow along, seeming to go with his plan, day after day.

Stanza 2.30.3

ऊ॒र्ध्वो ह्यस्था॒दध्य॒न्तरि॒क्षेऽधा॑ वृ॒त्राय॒ प्र व॒धं ज॑भार | मिहं॒ वसा॑न॒ उप॒ हीमदु॑द्रोत्ति॒ग्मायु॑धो अजय॒च्छत्रु॒मिन्द्रः॑ ||

ūrdhvó hy ásthād ádhy antárikṣé 'dhā vr̥trā́ya prá vadháṁ jabhāra míhaṁ vásāna úpa hī́m ádudrot tigmā́yudho ajayac chátrum índraḥ

Indra stood tall in the sky, then like a cloud, he hurled his mighty, sharp weapon at Vritra. He attacked and conquered his enemy!

Stanza 2.30.4

बृह॑स्पते॒ तपु॒षाश्ने॑व विध्य॒ वृक॑द्वरसो॒ असु॑रस्य वी॒रान् | यथा॑ ज॒घन्थ॑ धृष॒ता पु॒रा चि॑दे॒वा ज॑हि॒ शत्रु॑म॒स्माक॑मिन्द्र ||

bŕ̥haspate tápuṣā́śneva vidhya vŕ̥kadvaraso ásurasya vīrā́n yáthā jaghántha dhr̥ṣatā́ purā́ cid evā́ jahi śátrum asmā́kam indra

Oh Brihaspati, like a fiery bolt, strike down the powerful warriors of the Asura Vrikadvaras! Indra, just as you defeated enemies before with your strength, defeat our enemies now too!

Stanza 2.30.5

अव॑ क्षिप दि॒वो अश्मा॑नमु॒च्चा येन॒ शत्रुं॑ मन्दसा॒नो नि॒जूर्वाः॑ | तो॒कस्य॑ सा॒तौ तन॑यस्य॒ भूरे॑र॒स्माँ अ॒र्धं कृ॑णुतादिन्द्र॒ गोना॑म् ||

áva kṣipa divó áśmānam uccā́ yéna śátrum mandasānó nijū́rvāḥ tokásya sātaú tánayasya bhū́rer asmā́m̐ ardháṁ kr̥ṇutād indra gónām

Indra, throw down your thunderbolt from the sky with great force to strike the enemy! And while you're at it, help us get lots of children and cattle, making us rich and successful, day by day!

Stanza 2.30.6

प्र हि क्रतुं॑ वृ॒हथो॒ यं व॑नु॒थो र॒ध्रस्य॑ स्थो॒ यज॑मानस्य चो॒दौ | इन्द्रा॑सोमा यु॒वम॒स्माँ अ॑विष्टम॒स्मिन्भ॒यस्थे॑ कृणुतमु लो॒कम् ||

prá hí krátuṁ vr̥hátho yáṁ vanuthó radhrásya stho yájamānasya codaú índrāsomā yuvám asmā́m̐ aviṣṭam asmín bhayásthe kr̥ṇutam ulokám

Indra and Soma, you two strengthen anyone you like and help them succeed. You're the ones who boost the worshipper's power. Please support us and create a safe place for us right here, in this dangerous situation!

Stanza 2.30.7

न मा॑ तम॒न्न श्र॑म॒न्नोत त॑न्द्र॒न्न वो॑चाम॒ मा सु॑नो॒तेति॒ सोम॑म् | यो मे॑ पृ॒णाद्यो दद॒द्यो नि॒बोधा॒द्यो मा॑ सु॒न्वन्त॒मुप॒ गोभि॒राय॑त् ||

ná mā taman ná śraman nótá tandran ná vocāma mā́ sunotéti sómam yó me pr̥ṇā́d yó dádad yó nibódhād yó mā sunvántam úpa góbhir ā́yat

I really don't want to be tired or annoyed by pressing Soma juice. I don't want to be the one saying 'stop pressing Soma'! Instead, I hope for support from anyone who appreciates me, gives to me, understands me, or comes to me with cows when they are making offerings.

Stanza 2.30.8

सर॑स्वति॒ त्वम॒स्माँ अ॑विड्ढि म॒रुत्व॑ती धृष॒ती जे॑षि॒ शत्रू॑न् | त्यं चि॒च्छर्ध॑न्तं तविषी॒यमा॑ण॒मिन्द्रो॑ हन्ति वृष॒भं शण्डि॑कानाम् ||

sárasvati tvám asmā́m̐ aviḍḍhi marútvatī dhr̥ṣatī́ jeṣi śátrūn tyáṁ cic chárdhantaṁ taviṣīyámāṇam índro hanti vr̥ṣabháṁ śáṇḍikānām

O Sarasvati, protect us! And you Maruts, with your mighty power, help us courageously defeat our enemies. Indra is already taking down that strong leader, the chieftain of the Shanḍikas, who is full of pride!

Stanza 2.30.9

यो नः॒ सनु॑त्य उ॒त वा॑ जिघ॒त्नुर॑भि॒ख्याय॒ तं ति॑गि॒तेन॑ विध्य | बृह॑स्पत॒ आयु॑धैर्जेषि॒ शत्रू॑न्द्रु॒हे रीष॑न्तं॒ परि॑ धेहि राजन् ||

yó naḥ sánutya utá vā jighatnúr abhikhyā́ya táṁ tigiténa vidhya bŕ̥haspata ā́yudhair jeṣi śátrūn druhé rī́ṣantam pári dhehi rājan

O Brihaspati, strike down with your sharp weapon anyone who is secretly attacking us or plotting to harm us! And you, Indra, along with your powerful weapons, defeat the enemies. O King (Brihaspati), please destroy those who are acting maliciously!

Stanza 2.30.10

अ॒स्माके॑भिः॒ सत्व॑भिः शूर॒ शूरै॑र्वी॒र्या॑ कृधि॒ यानि॑ ते॒ कर्त्वा॑नि | ज्योग॑भूव॒न्ननु॑धूपितासो ह॒त्वी तेषा॒मा भ॑रा नो॒ वसू॑नि ||

asmā́kebhiḥ sátvabhiḥ śūra śū́rair vīryāā̀ kr̥dhi yā́ni te kártvāni jyóg abhūvann ánudhūpitāso hatvī́ téṣām ā́ bharā no vásūni

O Hero Indra, perform your great deeds with our brave warriors! May the actions you need to do be completed soon. We have waited a long time! Defeat them and bring us their wealth!

Stanza 2.30.11

तं वः॒ शर्धं॒ मारु॑तं सुम्न॒युर्गि॒रोप॑ ब्रुवे॒ नम॑सा॒ दैव्यं॒ जन॑म् | यथा॑ र॒यिं सर्व॑वीरं॒ नशा॑महा अपत्य॒साचं॒ श्रुत्यं॑ दि॒वेदि॑वे ||

táṁ vaḥ śárdham mā́rutaṁ sumnayúr girópa bruve námasā daívyaṁ jánam yáthā rayíṁ sárvavīraṁ náśāmahā apatyasā́caṁ śrútyaṁ divé-dive

With praise and respect, I'll speak to your divine group, the Maruts, who bring joy! We want to gain wealth, have lots of children, and gain fame day after day. We're seeking your favor!
