Stanza 2.20.1

व॒यं ते॒ वय॑ इन्द्र वि॒द्धि षु णः॒ प्र भ॑रामहे वाज॒युर्न रथ॑म् | वि॒प॒न्यवो॒ दीध्य॑तो मनी॒षा सु॒म्नमिय॑क्षन्त॒स्त्वाव॑तो॒ नॄन् ||

vayáṁ te váya indra viddhí ṣú ṇaḥ prá bharāmahe vājayúr ná rátham vipanyávo dī́dhyato manīṣā́ sumnám íyakṣantas tvā́vato nr̥ŕ̥n

Indra, please notice us! We're bringing our energy to you, just like someone readying a chariot for a competition. We're smart and thoughtful, composing songs to get your favor and enjoy great happiness with you among the mighty heroes.

Stanza 2.20.2

त्वं न॑ इन्द्र॒ त्वाभि॑रू॒ती त्वा॑य॒तो अ॑भिष्टि॒पासि॒ जना॑न् | त्वमि॒नो दा॒शुषो॑ वरू॒तेत्थाधी॑र॒भि यो नक्ष॑ति त्वा ||

tváṁ na indra tvā́bhir ūtī́ tvāyató abhiṣṭipā́si jánān tvám inó dāśúṣo varūtétthā́dhīr abhí yó nákṣati tvā

Indra, you are truly our protector! You watch over people who are devoted to you. You are our guardian, especially for the generous person who sincerely seeks your help.

Stanza 2.20.3

स नो॒ युवेन्द्रो॑ जो॒हूत्रः॒ सखा॑ शि॒वो न॒राम॑स्तु पा॒ता | यः शंस॑न्तं॒ यः श॑शमा॒नमू॒ती पच॑न्तं च स्तु॒वन्तं॑ च प्र॒णेष॑त् ||

sá no yúvéndro johū́traḥ sákhā śivó narā́m astu pātā́ yáḥ śáṁsantaṁ yáḥ śaśamānám ūtī́ pácantaṁ ca stuvántaṁ ca praṇéṣat

May our young friend Indra, who is called upon by prayers, be a beneficial protector for people! May he support those who sing, offer sacrifices, and praise him.

Stanza 2.20.4

तमु॑ स्तुष॒ इन्द्रं॒ तं गृ॑णीषे॒ यस्मि॑न्पु॒रा वा॑वृ॒धुः शा॑श॒दुश्च॑ | स वस्वः॒ कामं॑ पीपरदिया॒नो ब्र॑ह्मण्य॒तो नूत॑नस्या॒योः ||

tám u stuṣa índraṁ táṁ gr̥ṇīṣe yásmin purā́ vāvr̥dhúḥ śāśadúś ca sá vásvaḥ kā́mam pīparad iyānó brahmaṇyató nū́tanasyāyóḥ

I will sing and praise Indra, in whom people prospered in the past. May he fulfill the wishes of those who worship him and are devoted to him, providing them with abundance.

Stanza 2.20.5

सो अङ्गि॑रसामु॒चथा॑ जुजु॒ष्वान्ब्रह्मा॑ तूतो॒दिन्द्रो॑ गा॒तुमि॒ष्णन् | मु॒ष्णन्नु॒षसः॒ सूर्ये॑ण स्त॒वानश्न॑स्य चिच्छिश्नथत्पू॒र्व्याणि॑ ||

só áṅgirasām ucáthā jujuṣvā́n bráhmā tūtod índro gātúm iṣṇán muṣṇánn uṣásaḥ sū́ryeṇa stavā́n áśnasya cic chiśnathat pūrvyā́ṇi

Indra, whom the Angirases delighted with their praises, strengthened their prayers and made their path successful. He brought the dawn with the sun, driving away darkness, and even defeated the ancient foe Ashna.

Stanza 2.20.6

स ह॑ श्रु॒त इन्द्रो॒ नाम॑ दे॒व ऊ॒र्ध्वो भु॑व॒न्मनु॑षे द॒स्मत॑मः | अव॑ प्रि॒यम॑र्शसा॒नस्य॑ सा॒ह्वाञ्छिरो॑ भरद्दा॒सस्य॑ स्व॒धावा॑न् ||

sá ha śrutá índro nā́ma devá ūrdhvó bhuvan mánuṣe dasmátamaḥ áva priyám arśasānásya sāhvā́ñ chíro bharad dāsásya svadhā́vān

The famous god Indra, who is the greatest wonder-worker, rose up for people. He is powerful and independent. He defeated the wicked Dasa and brought him down, helping humanity.

Stanza 2.20.7

स वृ॑त्र॒हेन्द्रः॑ कृ॒ष्णयो॑नीः पुरंद॒रो दासी॑रैरय॒द्वि | अज॑नय॒न्मन॑वे॒ क्षाम॒पश्च॑ स॒त्रा शंसं॒ यज॑मानस्य तूतोत् ||

sá vr̥trahéndraḥ kr̥ṣṇáyonīḥ puraṁdaró dā́sīr airayad ví ájanayan mánave kṣā́m apáś ca satrā́ śáṁsaṁ yájamānasya tūtot

Indra, who destroys enemies and forts, scattered the dark-dwelling Dasas. He created the earth and waters for people and always helped the prayers of the worshipper.

Stanza 2.20.8

तस्मै॑ तव॒स्य१॒॑मनु॑ दायि स॒त्रेन्द्रा॑य दे॒वेभि॒रर्ण॑सातौ | प्रति॒ यद॑स्य॒ वज्रं॑ बा॒ह्वोर्धुर्ह॒त्वी दस्यू॒न्पुर॒ आय॑सी॒र्नि ता॑रीत् ||

tásmai tavasyàm ánu dāyi satréndrāya devébhir árṇasātau práti yád asya vájram bāhvór dhúr hatvī́ dásyūn púra ā́yasīr ní tārīt

The gods always yield to Indra's power, especially in battle. When the thunderbolt was given to him, he quickly killed the Dasas and destroyed their iron forts.

Stanza 2.20.9

नू॒नं सा ते॒ प्रति॒ वरं॑ जरि॒त्रे दु॑ही॒यदि॑न्द्र॒ दक्षि॑णा म॒घोनी॑ | शिक्षा॑ स्तो॒तृभ्यो॒ माति॑ ध॒ग्भगो॑ नो बृ॒हद्व॑देम वि॒दथे॑ सु॒वीराः॑ ||

nūnáṁ sā́ te práti váraṁ jaritré duhīyád indra dákṣiṇā maghónī śíkṣā stotŕ̥bhyo mā́ti dhag bhágo no br̥hád vadema vidáthe suvī́rāḥ

Now may your abundant gift, Indra, be given in return to me who praise you! Please grant blessings to your singers, and let our fortune not fail. May we speak with strength and heroes in assembly!
