    Stanza 10.87.1

    र॒क्षो॒हणं॑ वा॒जिन॒मा जि॑घर्मि मि॒त्रं प्रथि॑ष्ठ॒मुप॑ यामि॒ शर्म॑ | शिशा॑नो अ॒ग्निः क्रतु॑भिः॒ समि॑द्धः॒ स नो॒ दिवा॒ स रि॒षः पा॑तु॒ नक्त॑म् ||

    rakṣoháṇaṁ vājínam ā́ jigharmi mitrám práthiṣṭham úpa yāmi śárma śíśāno agníḥ krátubhiḥ sámiddhaḥ sá no dívā sá riṣáḥ pātu náktam

    I approach the demon-slayer, the powerful one, and come to the most expansive friend for protection. Agni, sharpened by rituals, may he protect us by day and from harm by night.

    Stanza 10.87.2

    अयो॑दंष्ट्रो अ॒र्चिषा॑ यातु॒धाना॒नुप॑ स्पृश जातवेदः॒ समि॑द्धः | आ जि॒ह्वया॒ मूर॑देवान्रभस्व क्र॒व्यादो॑ वृ॒क्त्व्यपि॑ धत्स्वा॒सन् ||

    áyodaṁṣṭro arcíṣā yātudhā́nān úpa spr̥śa jātavedaḥ sámiddhaḥ ā́ jihváyā mū́radevān rabhasva kravyā́do vr̥ktvy ápi dhatsvāsán

    O Jātavedas, with teeth of iron, strike the demons with your flame. Seize the worshippers of foolish gods with your tongue; devour the flesh-eaters.

    Stanza 10.87.3

    उ॒भोभ॑यावि॒न्नुप॑ धेहि॒ दंष्ट्रा॑ हिं॒स्रः शिशा॒नोऽव॑रं॒ परं॑ च | उ॒तान्तरि॑क्षे॒ परि॑ याहि राज॒ञ्जम्भैः॒ सं धे॑ह्य॒भि या॑तु॒धाना॑न् ||

    ubhóbhayāvinn úpa dhehi dáṁṣṭrā hiṁsráḥ śíśānó 'varam páraṁ ca utā́ntárikṣe pári yāhi rājañ jámbhaiḥ sáṁ dhehy abhí yātudhā́nān

    O one who possesses both upper and lower teeth, apply them. O destroyer, roaming in the sky, with your jaws, crush the demons.

    Stanza 10.87.4

    य॒ज्ञैरिषूः॑ सं॒नम॑मानो अग्ने वा॒चा श॒ल्याँ अ॒शनि॑भिर्दिहा॒नः | ताभि॑र्विध्य॒ हृद॑ये यातु॒धाना॑न्प्रती॒चो बा॒हून्प्रति॑ भङ्ध्येषाम् ||

    yajñaír íṣūḥ saṁnámamāno agne vācā́ śalyā́m̐ aśánibhir dihānáḥ tā́bhir vidhya hŕ̥daye yātudhā́nān pratīcó bāhū́n práti bhaṅdhy eṣām

    O Agni, bend your arrows through sacrifices, sharpen them with speech as if with whetstones. With those arrows, pierce the demons in the heart, and break their arms raised in opposition.

    Stanza 10.87.5

    अग्ने॒ त्वचं॑ यातु॒धान॑स्य भिन्धि हिं॒स्राशनि॒र्हर॑सा हन्त्वेनम् | प्र पर्वा॑णि जातवेदः शृणीहि क्र॒व्यात्क्र॑वि॒ष्णुर्वि चि॑नोतु वृ॒क्णम् ||

    ágne tvácaṁ yātudhā́nasya bhindhi hiṁsrā́śánir hárasā hantv enam prá párvāṇi jātavedaḥ śr̥ṇīhi kravyā́t kraviṣṇúr ví cinotu vr̥kṇám

    O Agni, pierce the demon's skin. Let the destructive dart kill him with fire. O Jātavedas, break his joints. Let the flesh-eating, flesh-seeking beings find his mangled body.

    Stanza 10.87.6

    यत्रे॒दानीं॒ पश्य॑सि जातवेद॒स्तिष्ठ॑न्तमग्न उ॒त वा॒ चर॑न्तम् | यद्वा॒न्तरि॑क्षे प॒थिभिः॒ पत॑न्तं॒ तमस्ता॑ विध्य॒ शर्वा॒ शिशा॑नः ||

    yátredā́nīm páśyasi jātavedas tíṣṭhantam agna utá vā cárantam yád vāntárikṣe pathíbhiḥ pátantaṁ tám ástā vidhya śárvā śíśānaḥ

    O Jātavedas, wherever you see the demon standing or moving, or flying through the sky, sharpen your arrow and pierce him.

    Stanza 10.87.7

    उ॒ताल॑ब्धं स्पृणुहि जातवेद आलेभा॒नादृ॒ष्टिभि॑र्यातु॒धाना॑त् | अग्ने॒ पूर्वो॒ नि ज॑हि॒ शोशु॑चान आ॒मादः॒ क्ष्विङ्का॒स्तम॑द॒न्त्वेनीः॑ ||

    utā́labdhaṁ spr̥ṇuhi jātaveda ālebhānā́d r̥ṣṭíbhir yātudhā́nāt ágne pū́rvo ní jahi śóśucāna āmā́daḥ kṣvíṅkās tám adantv énīḥ

    O Jātavedas, tear away what the demon has seized with his weapons. O Agni, blazing brightly, strike him down. May the carrion-eating birds devour him.

    Stanza 10.87.8

    इ॒ह प्र ब्रू॑हि यत॒मः सो अ॑ग्ने॒ यो या॑तु॒धानो॒ य इ॒दं कृ॒णोति॑ | तमा र॑भस्व स॒मिधा॑ यविष्ठ नृ॒चक्ष॑स॒श्चक्षु॑षे रन्धयैनम् ||

    ihá prá brūhi yatamáḥ só agne yó yātudhā́no yá idáṁ kr̥ṇóti tám ā́ rabhasva samídhā yaviṣṭha nr̥cákṣasaś cákṣuṣe randhayainam

    O Agni, declare here which demon is doing this. O most youthful, seize him with fuel. O watcher of men, surrender him to sight.

    Stanza 10.87.9

    ती॒क्ष्णेना॑ग्ने॒ चक्षु॑षा रक्ष य॒ज्ञं प्राञ्चं॒ वसु॑भ्यः॒ प्र ण॑य प्रचेतः | हिं॒स्रं रक्षां॑स्य॒भि शोशु॑चानं॒ मा त्वा॑ दभन्यातु॒धाना॑ नृचक्षः ||

    tīkṣṇénāgne cákṣuṣā rakṣa yajñám prā́ñcaṁ vásubhyaḥ prá ṇaya pracetaḥ hiṁsráṁ rákṣāṁsy abhí śóśucānam mā́ tvā dabhan yātudhā́nā nr̥cakṣaḥ

    O Agni, with your sharp gaze, guard the sacrifice. O Pracetaḥ, lead it to the Vasus. O burning one, attack the harmful demons.

    Stanza 10.87.10

    नृ॒चक्षा॒ रक्षः॒ परि॑ पश्य वि॒क्षु तस्य॒ त्रीणि॒ प्रति॑ शृणी॒ह्यग्रा॑ | तस्या॑ग्ने पृ॒ष्टीर्हर॑सा शृणीहि त्रे॒धा मूलं॑ यातु॒धान॑स्य वृश्च ||

    nr̥cákṣā rákṣaḥ pári paśya vikṣú tásya trī́ṇi práti śr̥ṇīhy ágrā tásyāgne pr̥ṣṭī́r hárasā śr̥ṇīhi tredhā́ mū́laṁ yātudhā́nasya vr̥śca

    O watcher of men, observe the demon among the people. Break its three extremities. O Agni, break its ribs with fire. Sever the demon's root completely.

    Stanza 10.87.11

    त्रिर्या॑तु॒धानः॒ प्रसि॑तिं त एत्वृ॒तं यो अ॑ग्ने॒ अनृ॑तेन॒ हन्ति॑ | तम॒र्चिषा॑ स्फू॒र्जय॑ञ्जातवेदः सम॒क्षमे॑नं गृण॒ते नि वृ॑ङ्धि ||

    trír yātudhā́naḥ prásitiṁ ta etv r̥táṁ yó agne ánr̥tena hánti tám arcíṣā sphūrjáyañ jātavedaḥ samakṣám enaṁ gr̥ṇaté ní vr̥ṅdhi

    O Agni, let your noose surround the demon who harms the order with falsehood. O Jātavedas, roaring with flame, crush him before the singer.

    Stanza 10.87.12

    तद॑ग्ने॒ चक्षुः॒ प्रति॑ धेहि रे॒भे श॑फा॒रुजं॒ येन॒ पश्य॑सि यातु॒धान॑म् | अ॒थ॒र्व॒वज्ज्योति॑षा॒ दैव्ये॑न स॒त्यं धूर्व॑न्तम॒चितं॒ न्यो॑ष ||

    tád agne cákṣuḥ práti dhehi rebhé śaphārújaṁ yéna páśyasi yātudhā́nam atharvaváj jyótiṣā daívyena satyáṁ dhū́rvantam acítaṁ ny òṣa

    O Agni, place your divine eye, like Atharvan's, on the demon with hoof-like feet. Burn the deceiver, who is unperceived, with celestial light.

    Stanza 10.87.13

    यद॑ग्ने अ॒द्य मि॑थु॒ना शपा॑तो॒ यद्वा॒चस्तृ॒ष्टं ज॒नय॑न्त रे॒भाः | म॒न्योर्मन॑सः शर॒व्या॒३॒॑ जाय॑ते॒ या तया॑ विध्य॒ हृद॑ये यातु॒धाना॑न् ||

    yád agne adyá mithunā́ śápāto yád vācás tr̥ṣṭáṁ janáyanta rebhā́ḥ manyór mánasaḥ śaravyāā̀ jā́yate yā́ táyā vidhya hŕ̥daye yātudhā́nān

    O Agni, what curse the pair has uttered today, what heated words the worshippers have generated, whatever sharp arrow arises from angry thought, with that, pierce the demons in the heart.

    Stanza 10.87.14

    परा॑ शृणीहि॒ तप॑सा यातु॒धाना॒न्परा॑ग्ने॒ रक्षो॒ हर॑सा शृणीहि | परा॒र्चिषा॒ मूर॑देवाञ्छृणीहि॒ परा॑सु॒तृपो॑ अ॒भि शोशु॑चानः ||

    párā śr̥ṇīhi tápasā yātudhā́nān párāgne rákṣo hárasā śr̥ṇīhi párārcíṣā mū́radevāñ chr̥ṇīhi párāsutŕ̥po abhí śóśucānaḥ

    O Agni, destroy the demons with fervor. Destroy the fiends with fire. Destroy the worshippers of foolish gods with radiance. Burn the insatiable ones intensely.

    Stanza 10.87.15

    परा॒द्य दे॒वा वृ॑जि॒नं शृ॑णन्तु प्र॒त्यगे॑नं श॒पथा॑ यन्तु तृ॒ष्टाः | वा॒चास्ते॑नं॒ शर॑व ऋच्छन्तु॒ मर्म॒न्विश्व॑स्यैतु॒ प्रसि॑तिं यातु॒धानः॑ ||

    párādyá devā́ vr̥jináṁ śr̥ṇantu pratyág enaṁ śapáthā yantu tr̥ṣṭā́ḥ vācā́stenaṁ śárava r̥chantu márman víśvasyaitu prásitiṁ yātudhā́naḥ

    May the gods today destroy the wicked one. May the sharp curses return upon him. May arrows pierce the liar in his vital parts. May the net of Viśva capture the demon.

    Stanza 10.87.16

    यः पौरु॑षेयेण क्र॒विषा॑ सम॒ङ्क्ते यो अश्व्ये॑न प॒शुना॑ यातु॒धानः॑ | यो अ॒घ्न्याया॒ भर॑ति क्षी॒रम॑ग्ने॒ तेषां॑ शी॒र्षाणि॒ हर॒सापि॑ वृश्च ||

    yáḥ paúruṣeyeṇa kravíṣā samaṅkté yó áśvyena paśúnā yātudhā́naḥ yó aghnyā́yā bhárati kṣīrám agne téṣāṁ śīrṣā́ṇi hárasā́pi vr̥śca

    O Agni, whoever consumes human flesh, or horse flesh, or steals milk meant for the divine, cut off their heads with fire.

    Stanza 10.87.17

    सं॒व॒त्स॒रीणं॒ पय॑ उ॒स्रिया॑या॒स्तस्य॒ माशी॑द्यातु॒धानो॑ नृचक्षः | पी॒यूष॑मग्ने यत॒मस्तितृ॑प्सा॒त्तं प्र॒त्यञ्च॑म॒र्चिषा॑ विध्य॒ मर्म॑न् ||

    saṁvatsarī́ṇam páya usríyāyās tásya mā́śīd yātudhā́no nr̥cakṣaḥ pīyū́ṣam agne yatamás títr̥psāt tám pratyáñcam arcíṣā vidhya márman

    The cow's milk is yearly. O watcher of men, may the demon not taste it. O Jātavedas, whoever desires to taste the first milk, pierce him with your flame in his vital parts.

    Stanza 10.87.18

    वि॒षं गवां॑ यातु॒धानाः॑ पिब॒न्त्वा वृ॑श्च्यन्ता॒मदि॑तये दु॒रेवाः॑ | परै॑नान्दे॒वः स॑वि॒ता द॑दातु॒ परा॑ भा॒गमोष॑धीनां जयन्ताम् ||

    viṣáṁ gávāṁ yātudhā́nāḥ pibantv ā́ vr̥ścyantām áditaye durévāḥ párainān deváḥ savitā́ dadātu párā bhāgám óṣadhīnāṁ jayantām

    May the demons drink the poison of cows. May Aditi cast off the evil-doers. May the god Savitar give them to destruction. May the plants and herbs be denied to them.

    Stanza 10.87.19

    स॒नाद॑ग्ने मृणसि यातु॒धाना॒न्न त्वा॒ रक्षां॑सि॒ पृत॑नासु जिग्युः | अनु॑ दह स॒हमू॑रान्क्र॒व्यादो॒ मा ते॑ हे॒त्या मु॑क्षत॒ दैव्या॑याः ||

    sanā́d agne mr̥ṇasi yātudhā́nān ná tvā rákṣāṁsi pŕ̥tanāsu jigyuḥ ánu daha sahámūrān kravyā́do mā́ te hetyā́ mukṣata daívyāyāḥ

    O Agni, you have always slain the demons. The demons have not conquered you in battle. Burn the foolish flesh-eaters. May they not escape your divine weapon.

    Stanza 10.87.20

    त्वं नो॑ अग्ने अध॒रादुद॑क्ता॒त्त्वं प॒श्चादु॒त र॑क्षा पु॒रस्ता॑त् | प्रति॒ ते ते॑ अ॒जरा॑स॒स्तपि॑ष्ठा अ॒घशं॑सं॒ शोशु॑चतो दहन्तु ||

    tváṁ no agne adharā́d údaktāt tvám paścā́d utá rakṣā purástāt práti té te ajárāsas tápiṣṭhā agháśaṁsaṁ śóśucato dahantu

    O Agni, protect us from above, from below, from behind, and from in front. May your intensely burning, unfading flames consume the one who utters evil.

    Stanza 10.87.21

    प॒श्चात्पु॒रस्ता॑दध॒रादुद॑क्तात्क॒विः काव्ये॑न॒ परि॑ पाहि राजन् | सखे॒ सखा॑यम॒जरो॑ जरि॒म्णेऽग्ने॒ मर्ताँ॒ अम॑र्त्य॒स्त्वं नः॑ ||

    paścā́t purástād adharā́d údaktāt kavíḥ kā́vyena pári pāhi rājan sákhe sákhāyam ajáro jarimṇé 'gne mártām̐ ámartyas tváṁ naḥ

    O King, O Sage, protect us from behind, from in front, from below, from above. O Agni, our friend, immortal, guard us mortals into old age.

    Stanza 10.87.22

    परि॑ त्वाग्ने॒ पुरं॑ व॒यं विप्रं॑ सहस्य धीमहि | धृ॒षद्व॑र्णं दि॒वेदि॑वे ह॒न्तारं॑ भङ्गु॒राव॑ताम् ||

    pári tvāgne púraṁ vayáṁ vípraṁ sahasya dhīmahi dhr̥ṣádvarṇaṁ divé-dive hantā́ram bhaṅgurā́vatām

    We establish you around us like a fortress, O Agni, O mighty one, O sage of heroic lineage, day by day. With your steadfast appearance, destroy our treacherous enemies.

    Stanza 10.87.23

    वि॒षेण॑ भङ्गु॒राव॑तः॒ प्रति॑ ष्म र॒क्षसो॑ दह | अग्ने॑ ति॒ग्मेन॑ शो॒चिषा॒ तपु॑रग्राभिर्ऋ॒ष्टिभिः॑ ||

    viṣéṇa bhaṅgurā́vataḥ práti ṣma rakṣáso daha ágne tigména śocíṣā tápuragrābhir r̥ṣṭíbhiḥ

    O Agni, burn the treacherous ones with poison. Strike the demons with your sharp radiance. Strike them with fiery lances.

    Stanza 10.87.24

    प्रत्य॑ग्ने मिथु॒ना द॑ह यातु॒धाना॑ किमी॒दिना॑ | सं त्वा॑ शिशामि जागृ॒ह्यद॑ब्धं विप्र॒ मन्म॑भिः ||

    práty agne mithunā́ daha yātudhā́nā kimīdínā sáṁ tvā śiśāmi jāgr̥hy ádabdhaṁ vipra mánmabhiḥ

    O Agni, burn the demon pairs and the demon. O sage, I sharpen you with hymns. Be vigilant and unharmed.

    Stanza 10.87.25

    प्रत्य॑ग्ने॒ हर॑सा॒ हरः॑ शृणी॒हि वि॒श्वतः॒ प्रति॑ | या॒तु॒धान॑स्य र॒क्षसो॒ बलं॒ वि रु॑ज वी॒र्य॑म् ||

    práty agne hárasā háraḥ śr̥ṇīhí viśvátaḥ práti yātudhā́nasya rakṣáso bálaṁ ví ruja vīryàm

    O Agni, strike the demon's strength with fire. Break the demon's vigor. Strike and break the demon and the evil spirit from all sides.
