Stanza 10.45.1

दि॒वस्परि॑ प्रथ॒मं ज॑ज्ञे अ॒ग्निर॒स्मद्द्वि॒तीयं॒ परि॑ जा॒तवे॑दाः | तृ॒तीय॑म॒प्सु नृ॒मणा॒ अज॑स्र॒मिन्धा॑न एनं जरते स्वा॒धीः ||

divás pári prathamáṁ jajñe agnír asmád dvitī́yam pári jātávedāḥ tr̥tī́yam apsú nr̥máṇā ájasram índhāna enaṁ jarate svādhī́ḥ

Agni was first born from the sky. As Jātavedas, he was born a second time from us. Thirdly, the man-hearted one was born in the waters. The wise, ever-burning one, reveres him.

Stanza 10.45.2

वि॒द्मा ते॑ अग्ने त्रे॒धा त्र॒याणि॑ वि॒द्मा ते॒ धाम॒ विभृ॑ता पुरु॒त्रा | वि॒द्मा ते॒ नाम॑ पर॒मं गुहा॒ यद्वि॒द्मा तमुत्सं॒ यत॑ आज॒गन्थ॑ ||

vidmā́ te agne tredhā́ trayā́ṇi vidmā́ te dhā́ma víbhr̥tā purutrā́ vidmā́ te nā́ma paramáṁ gúhā yád vidmā́ tám útsaṁ yáta ājagántha

We know your three aspects, Agni, in three places. We know your forms spread out everywhere. We know your highest name, kept secret. We know the source from which you came.

Stanza 10.45.3

स॒मु॒द्रे त्वा॑ नृ॒मणा॑ अ॒प्स्व१॒॑न्तर्नृ॒चक्षा॑ ईधे दि॒वो अ॑ग्न॒ ऊध॑न् | तृ॒तीये॑ त्वा॒ रज॑सि तस्थि॒वांस॑म॒पामु॒पस्थे॑ महि॒षा अ॑वर्धन् ||

samudré tvā nr̥máṇā apsv àntár nr̥cákṣā īdhe divó agna ū́dhan tr̥tī́ye tvā rájasi tasthivā́ṁsam apā́m upásthe mahiṣā́ avardhan

The strong one kindled you in the ocean and waters, O Agni. The seer of men kindled you in the sky's heart. As you stood in the third realm, the powerful ones nurtured you in the lap of the waters.

Stanza 10.45.4

अक्र॑न्दद॒ग्निः स्त॒नय॑न्निव॒ द्यौः क्षामा॒ रेरि॑हद्वी॒रुधः॑ सम॒ञ्जन् | स॒द्यो ज॑ज्ञा॒नो वि हीमि॒द्धो अख्य॒दा रोद॑सी भा॒नुना॑ भात्य॒न्तः ||

ákrandad agní stanáyann iva dyaúḥ kṣā́mā rérihad vīrúdhaḥ samañján sadyó jajñānó ví hī́m iddhó ákhyad ā́ ródasī bhānúnā bhāty antáḥ

Agni roared like the thundering sky. He licked the plants, spreading his essence. Being born and ignited, he immediately illuminated the earth and sky from within with his brilliance.

Stanza 10.45.5

श्री॒णामु॑दा॒रो ध॒रुणो॑ रयी॒णां म॑नी॒षाणां॒ प्रार्प॑णः॒ सोम॑गोपाः | वसुः॑ सू॒नुः सह॑सो अ॒प्सु राजा॒ वि भा॒त्यग्र॑ उ॒षसा॑मिधा॒नः ||

śrīṇā́m udāró dharúṇo rayīṇā́m manīṣā́ṇām prā́rpaṇaḥ sómagopāḥ vásuḥ sūnúḥ sáhaso apsú rā́jā ví bhāty ágra uṣásām idhānáḥ

You are the generous source of splendors and the support of riches, the prompt of thoughts, the guardian of Soma. O King, Son of Strength, you shine brightly in the forefront of the dawns, originating from the waters.

Stanza 10.45.6

विश्व॑स्य के॒तुर्भुव॑नस्य॒ गर्भ॒ आ रोद॑सी अपृणा॒ज्जाय॑मानः | वी॒ळुं चि॒दद्रि॑मभिनत्परा॒यञ्जना॒ यद॒ग्निमय॑जन्त॒ पञ्च॑ ||

víśvasya ketúr bhúvanasya gárbha ā́ ródasī apr̥ṇāj jā́yamānaḥ vīḷúṁ cid ádrim abhinat parāyáñ jánā yád agním áyajanta páñca

As the germ of the world and banner of existence, the newly born one filled the earth and sky. He even broke the strong rock when moving forward. When the five tribes sacrificed to Agni, he appeared.

Stanza 10.45.7

उ॒शिक्पा॑व॒को अ॑र॒तिः सु॑मे॒धा मर्ते॑ष्व॒ग्निर॒मृतो॒ नि धा॑यि | इय॑र्ति धू॒मम॑रु॒षं भरि॑भ्र॒दुच्छु॒क्रेण॑ शो॒चिषा॒ द्यामिन॑क्षन् ||

uśík pāvakó aratíḥ sumedhā́ márteṣv agnír amŕ̥to ní dhāyi íyarti dhūmám aruṣám bháribhrad úc chukréṇa śocíṣā dyā́m ínakṣan

Agni, the holy, pure, wise, and willing messenger, the immortal one, was placed among mortals. He sends forth red smoke, carrying it upward, reaching the sky with shining light.

Stanza 10.45.8

दृ॒शा॒नो रु॒क्म उ॑र्वि॒या व्य॑द्यौद्दु॒र्मर्ष॒मायुः॑ श्रि॒ये रु॑चा॒नः | अ॒ग्निर॒मृतो॑ अभव॒द्वयो॑भि॒र्यदे॑नं॒ द्यौर्ज॒नय॑त्सु॒रेताः॑ ||

dr̥śānó rukmá urviyā́ vy àdyaud durmárṣam ā́yuḥ śriyé rucānáḥ agnír amŕ̥to abhavad váyobhir yád enaṁ dyaúr janáyat surétāḥ

Appearing like gold, he shone brightly across the earth. Gloriously, he gleamed with imperishable life. Agni became immortal with life-giving powers when radiant Dyaus generated him.

Stanza 10.45.9

यस्ते॑ अ॒द्य कृ॒णव॑द्भद्रशोचेऽपू॒पं दे॑व घृ॒तव॑न्तमग्ने | प्र तं न॑य प्रत॒रं वस्यो॒ अच्छा॒भि सु॒म्नं दे॒वभ॑क्तं यविष्ठ ||

yás te adyá kr̥ṇávad bhadraśoce 'pūpáṁ deva ghr̥távantam agne prá táṁ naya prataráṁ vásyo áchābhí sumnáṁ devábhaktaṁ yaviṣṭha

O Agni, whose flames are beautiful, whoever today prepares a cake for you, O God, mixed with butter, lead him forward to greater prosperity, to happiness bestowed by the Gods, O most youthful one.

Stanza 10.45.10

आ तं भ॑ज सौश्रव॒सेष्व॑ग्न उ॒क्थउ॑क्थ॒ आ भ॑ज श॒स्यमा॑ने | प्रि॒यः सूर्ये॑ प्रि॒यो अ॒ग्ना भ॑वा॒त्युज्जा॒तेन॑ भि॒नद॒दुज्जनि॑त्वैः ||

ā́ tám bhaja sauśravaséṣv agna ukthá-uktha ā́ bhaja śasyámāne priyáḥ sū́rye priyó agnā́ bhavāty új jāténa bhinádad új jánitvaiḥ

Share with us, O Agni, in glories and in every praised hymn. Make us dear to the Sun, dear to Agni. By being born, may we destroy (obstacles) with our progeny.

Stanza 10.45.11

त्वाम॑ग्ने॒ यज॑माना॒ अनु॒ द्यून्विश्वा॒ वसु॑ दधिरे॒ वार्या॑णि | त्वया॑ स॒ह द्रवि॑णमि॒च्छमा॑ना व्र॒जं गोम॑न्तमु॒शिजो॒ वि व॑व्रुः ||

tvā́m agne yájamānā ánu dyū́n víśvā vásu dadhire vā́ryāṇi tváyā sahá dráviṇam ichámānā vrajáṁ gómantam uśíjo ví vavruḥ

O Agni, those who worship you day by day obtain all desirable treasures. Allied with you, seeking wealth, the wise have opened the stable full of cows.

Stanza 10.45.12

अस्ता॑व्य॒ग्निर्न॒रां सु॒शेवो॑ वैश्वान॒र ऋषि॑भिः॒ सोम॑गोपाः | अ॒द्वे॒षे द्यावा॑पृथि॒वी हु॑वेम॒ देवा॑ ध॒त्त र॒यिम॒स्मे सु॒वीर॑म् ||

ástāvy agnír narā́ṁ suśévo vaiśvānará ŕ̥ṣibhiḥ sómagopāḥ adveṣé dyā́vāpr̥thivī́ huvema dévā dhattá rayím asmé suvī́ram

Agni, the friend of men, the best keeper, the Vaishvanara, has been praised by the sages. May we invoke the peaceful Earth and Heaven. O Gods, grant us wealth with heroic children.
