Stanza 10.42.1

अस्ते॑व॒ सु प्र॑त॒रं लाय॒मस्य॒न्भूष॑न्निव॒ प्र भ॑रा॒ स्तोम॑मस्मै | वा॒चा वि॑प्रास्तरत॒ वाच॑म॒र्यो नि रा॑मय जरितः॒ सोम॒ इन्द्र॑म् ||

ásteva sú prataráṁ lā́yam ásyan bhū́ṣann iva prá bharā stómam asmai vācā́ viprās tarata vā́cam aryó ní rāmaya jaritaḥ sóma índram

Like an archer shooting far, present a fitting offering to him. O wise ones, overpower evil talk with your words. Singer, bring forth Indra together with Soma.

Stanza 10.42.2

दोहे॑न॒ गामुप॑ शिक्षा॒ सखा॑यं॒ प्र बो॑धय जरितर्जा॒रमिन्द्र॑म् | कोशं॒ न पू॒र्णं वसु॑ना॒ न्यृ॑ष्ट॒मा च्या॑वय मघ॒देया॑य॒ शूर॑म् ||

dóhena gā́m úpa śikṣā sákhāyam prá bodhaya jaritar jārám índram kóśaṁ ná pūrṇáṁ vásunā nyr̥̀ṣṭam ā́ cyāvaya maghadéyāya śū́ram

Like a cow at milking time, draw your friend near. Singer, awaken Indra, your beloved, as you would an eager lover. Bring forth the heroic Indra to give us wealth, like a vessel filled to the brim with riches.

Stanza 10.42.3

किम॒ङ्ग त्वा॑ मघवन्भो॒जमा॑हुः शिशी॒हि मा॑ शिश॒यं त्वा॑ शृणोमि | अप्न॑स्वती॒ मम॒ धीर॑स्तु शक्र वसु॒विदं॒ भग॑मि॒न्द्रा भ॑रा नः ||

kím aṅgá tvā maghavan bhojám āhuḥ śiśīhí mā śiśayáṁ tvā śr̥ṇomi ápnasvatī máma dhī́r astu śakra vasuvídam bhágam indrā́ bharā naḥ

Why, O generous Indra, do people call you a giver? Rouse me! I hear that you are the one who rouses. O mighty Indra, let my intellect be active, and bring us wealth-bestowing fortune, O Indra.

Stanza 10.42.4

त्वां जना॑ ममस॒त्येष्वि॑न्द्र संतस्था॒ना वि ह्व॑यन्ते समी॒के | अत्रा॒ युजं॑ कृणुते॒ यो ह॒विष्मा॒न्नासु॑न्वता स॒ख्यं व॑ष्टि॒ शूरः॑ ||

tvā́ṁ jánā mamasatyéṣv indra saṁtasthānā́ ví hvayante samīké átrā yújaṁ kr̥ṇute yó havíṣmān nā́sunvatā sakhyáṁ vaṣṭi śū́raḥ

People, standing together in assemblies, call upon you, Indra. The hero Indra makes an ally of him who brings offerings, he does not seek friendship with one who does not prepare the Soma.

Stanza 10.42.5

धनं॒ न स्य॒न्द्रं ब॑हु॒लं यो अ॑स्मै ती॒व्रान्त्सोमाँ॑ आसु॒नोति॒ प्रय॑स्वान् | तस्मै॒ शत्रू॑न्त्सु॒तुका॑न्प्रा॒तरह्नो॒ नि स्वष्ट्रा॑न्यु॒वति॒ हन्ति॑ वृ॒त्रम् ||

dhánaṁ ná syandrám bahuláṁ yó asmai tīvrā́n sómām̐ āsunóti práyasvān tásmai śátrūn sutúkān prātár áhno ní sváṣṭrān yuváti hánti vr̥trám

For him who diligently prepares strong, abundant Soma juices for Indra, he swiftly brings much wealth, like a flowing stream. For him, in the morning, he overthrows enemies equipped with swift weapons and slays Vritra.

Stanza 10.42.6

यस्मि॑न्व॒यं द॑धि॒मा शंस॒मिन्द्रे॒ यः शि॒श्राय॑ म॒घवा॒ काम॑म॒स्मे | आ॒राच्चि॒त्सन्भ॑यतामस्य॒ शत्रु॒र्न्य॑स्मै द्यु॒म्ना जन्या॑ नमन्ताम् ||

yásmin vayáṁ dadhimā́ śáṁsam índre yáḥ śiśrā́ya maghávā kā́mam asmé ārā́c cit sán bhayatām asya śátrur ny àsmai dyumnā́ jányā namantām

For the one with whom we place our offerings, Indra, who has aligned his wishes with ours, for him, O Maghavan, let even the distant enemy tremble. Let all worldly glories bow down to him.

Stanza 10.42.7

आ॒राच्छत्रु॒मप॑ बाधस्व दू॒रमु॒ग्रो यः शम्बः॑ पुरुहूत॒ तेन॑ | अ॒स्मे धे॑हि॒ यव॑म॒द्गोम॑दिन्द्र कृ॒धी धियं॑ जरि॒त्रे वाज॑रत्नाम् ||

ārā́c chátrum ápa bādhasva dūrám ugró yáḥ śámbaḥ puruhūta téna asmé dhehi yávamad gómad indra kr̥dhī́ dhíyaṁ jaritré vā́jaratnām

O greatly invoked Indra, drive the enemy far away with your fierce weapon. Grant us abundance of grain and cattle. O Indra, make the prayer of your singer fruitful and rich.

Stanza 10.42.8

प्र यम॒न्तर्वृ॑षस॒वासो॒ अग्म॑न्ती॒व्राः सोमा॑ बहु॒लान्ता॑स॒ इन्द्र॑म् | नाह॑ दा॒मानं॑ म॒घवा॒ नि यं॑स॒न्नि सु॑न्व॒ते व॑हति॒ भूरि॑ वा॒मम् ||

prá yám antár vr̥ṣasavā́so ágman tīvrā́ḥ sómā bahulā́ntāsa índram nā́ha dāmā́nam maghávā ní yaṁsan ní sunvaté vahati bhū́ri vāmám

The potent Soma juices, which are abundant and rich, come to Indra. The generous Indra does not withhold his gift; he brings much wealth to the one who presses the Soma.

Stanza 10.42.9

उ॒त प्र॒हाम॑ति॒दीव्या॑ जयाति कृ॒तं यच्छ्व॒घ्नी वि॑चि॒नोति॑ का॒ले | यो दे॒वका॑मो॒ न धना॑ रुणद्धि॒ समित्तं रा॒या सृ॑जति स्व॒धावा॑न् ||

utá prahā́m atidī́vyā jayāti kr̥táṁ yác chvaghnī́ vicinóti kālé yó devákāmo ná dhánā ruṇaddhi sám ít táṁ rāyā́ sr̥jati svadhā́vān

Indeed, by superior skill in playing, one wins. When the gambler, in due time, gathers his winnings. The divine one, who brings riches, unites him with wealth, the one who does not withhold his possessions.

Stanza 10.42.10

गोभि॑ष्टरे॒माम॑तिं दु॒रेवां॒ यवे॑न॒ क्षुधं॑ पुरुहूत॒ विश्वा॑म् | व॒यं राज॑भिः प्रथ॒मा धना॑न्य॒स्माके॑न वृ॒जने॑ना जयेम ||

góbhiṣ ṭaremā́matiṁ durévāṁ yávena kṣúdham puruhūta víśvām vayáṁ rā́jabhiḥ prathamā́ dhánāny asmā́kena vr̥jánenā jayema

O greatly invoked Indra, may we overcome all hunger and misfortune with cattle and grain. May we, alongside princes and with our own strength, achieve wealth.

Stanza 10.42.11

बृह॒स्पति॑र्नः॒ परि॑ पातु प॒श्चादु॒तोत्त॑रस्मा॒दध॑रादघा॒योः | इन्द्रः॑ पु॒रस्ता॑दु॒त म॑ध्य॒तो नः॒ सखा॒ सखि॑भ्यो॒ वरि॑वः कृणोतु ||

bŕ̥haspátir naḥ pári pātu paścā́d utóttarasmād ádharād aghāyóḥ índraḥ purástād utá madhyató naḥ sákhā sákhibhyo várivaḥ kr̥ṇotu

May Brihaspati protect us from behind, and from above, and from below, from harm. May Indra protect us from the front and from the middle. May the Friend grant us, his friends, ample space and freedom.
