Where is the renowned Indra heard? With what people is he famous today, like Mitra? He who is celebrated with song in the home of the sages, or in secret places?

Stanza 10.22.2

mahó yás pátiḥ śávaso ásāmy ā́ mahó nr̥mṇásya tūtujíḥ bhartā́ vájrasya dhr̥ṣṇóḥ pitā́ putrám iva priyám

He is the sovereign lord of great power and might, the bearer of the thunderbolt, the daring one, like a father bears his dear son.

Harnessing the two steeds of the wind, O thunder-wielding Indra, moving along the shining path, you create ways and are glorified.

tváṁ tyā́ cid vā́tasyā́śvā́gā r̥jrā́ tmánā váhadhyai yáyor devó ná mártyo yantā́ nákir vidā́yyaḥ

You yourself have come to ride these swift horses of the wind. For them, neither a god nor a mortal man is a driver; no one can control them.

Stanza 10.22.6

As you approach, people ask you: 'Why have you come to our home? Why have you come to a mortal, from the distant earth and sky?'

Stanza 10.22.7

Speak kindly to us, O Indra. Our prayer is offered. We ask for your help, as you defeated the man-like demon Shuṣṇa.

Stanza 10.22.8

akarmā́ dásyur abhí no amantúr anyávrato ámānuṣaḥ tváṁ tásyāmitrahan vádhar dāsásya dambhaya

The Dasyu is without ritual, without thought, disobedient, inhuman. You, slayer of the enemy, confound his weapon.

Stanza 10.22.9

You, O hero Indra, are ours, along with heroes. Those protected by you are strong. Your gifts are spread everywhere, like subjects who praise.

Stanza 10.22.10

You, O hero Indra, incite men in the killing of the enemy. In the fight, among the sages' tribes, whose strength is like the stars.

Stanza 10.22.11

Swiftly come your gifts, O hero Indra, thunder-wielder. As you destroyed Shuṣṇa and his companions, so destroy them.

Stanza 10.22.12

ahastā́ yád apádī várdhata kṣā́ḥ śácībhir vedyā́nām śúṣṇam pári pradakṣiṇíd viśvā́yave ní śiśnathaḥ

When the handless and footless Earth grew with knowledge and power, you destroyed Shuṣṇa and scattered him for the benefit of all.

Stanza 10.22.15

Drink the Soma, O hero Indra, and do not hold back your wealth. Protect those who praise you, and make us rich with great wealth.
