रात्री॒ व्य॑ख्यदाय॒ती पु॑रु॒त्रा दे॒व्य१॒॑क्षभिः॑ | विश्वा॒ अधि॒ श्रियो॑ऽधित ||

The divine Night, arriving, looks forth with her many eyes across many places. She has adorned herself with all her glories.

Having arrived, the goddess has put away her sister, the Dawn. The darkness indeed departs.
As the divine Night arrives and takes her position, she ushers out her sister, the Dawn. With the departure of Night, the darkness that was present begins to vanish.

The villagers have settled down, and those who walk, and those who have wings. Even the hungry falcons have settled.

Ward off the she-wolf and the wolf, ward off the thief, O Urmya. Then be easy for us to pass through.
The speaker implores the goddess Night (addressed as 'Urmya') to protect them from dangers like wolves and thieves. They then ask Night to make their passage through the night easy and safe.

The darkness has clearly approached me, the blackness has become apparent. O Dawn, remove it like debts.
