Stanza 1.76.1

का त॒ उपे॑ति॒र्मन॑सो॒ वरा॑य॒ भुव॑दग्ने॒ शंत॑मा॒ का म॑नी॒षा | को वा॑ य॒ज्ञैः परि॒ दक्षं॑ त आप॒ केन॑ वा ते॒ मन॑सा दाशेम ||

kā́ ta úpetir mánaso várāya bhúvad agne śáṁtamā kā́ manīṣā́ kó vā yajñaíḥ pári dákṣaṁ ta āpa kéna vā te mánasā dāśema

Oh Agni, how can our thoughts reach you with favor? What hymn of praise will bring us the greatest blessing? Who has truly grasped your power through sacrifices? And with what mindset should we offer you our oblations?

Stanza 1.76.2

एह्य॑ग्न इ॒ह होता॒ नि षी॒दाद॑ब्धः॒ सु पु॑रए॒ता भ॑वा नः | अव॑तां त्वा॒ रोद॑सी विश्वमि॒न्वे यजा॑ म॒हे सौ॑मन॒साय॑ दे॒वान् ||

éhy agna ihá hótā ní ṣīdā́dabdhaḥ sú puraetā́ bhavā naḥ ávatāṁ tvā ródasī viśvaminvé yájā mahé saumanasā́ya devā́n

Come, Agni, right here! Sit down as our priest. Be our unfailing leader. May the all-encompassing Heaven and Earth protect you. Let us sacrifice to the gods for their goodwill!

Stanza 1.76.3

प्र सु विश्वा॑न्र॒क्षसो॒ धक्ष्य॑ग्ने॒ भवा॑ य॒ज्ञाना॑मभिशस्ति॒पावा॑ | अथा व॑ह॒ सोम॑पतिं॒ हरि॑भ्यामाति॒थ्यम॑स्मै चकृमा सु॒दाव्ने॑ ||

prá sú víśvān rakṣáso dhákṣy agne bhávā yajñā́nām abhiśastipā́vā áthā́ vaha sómapatiṁ háribhyām ātithyám asmai cakr̥mā sudā́vne

Agni, burn away all evil spirits! Be the protector of our sacrifices against any curses. And please bring the Lord of Soma with his horses! We've prepared a welcome for this generous guest.

Stanza 1.76.4

प्र॒जाव॑ता॒ वच॑सा॒ वह्नि॑रा॒सा च॑ हु॒वे नि च॑ सत्सी॒ह दे॒वैः | वेषि॑ हो॒त्रमु॒त पो॒त्रं य॑जत्र बो॒धि प्र॑यन्तर्जनित॒र्वसू॑नाम् ||

prajā́vatā vácasā váhnir āsā́ ca huvé ní ca satsīhá devaíḥ véṣi hotrám utá potráṁ yajatra bodhí prayantar janitar vásūnām

With words that bring prosperity and children, I call you, Agni, to come and sit here with the gods. You who are worthy of worship, perform your roles as Hotar and Potar. Awake, O bestower and source of riches!

Stanza 1.76.5

यथा॒ विप्र॑स्य॒ मनु॑षो ह॒विर्भि॑र्दे॒वाँ अय॑जः क॒विभिः॑ क॒विः सन् | ए॒वा हो॑तः सत्यतर॒ त्वम॒द्याग्ने॑ म॒न्द्रया॑ जु॒ह्वा॑ यजस्व ||

yáthā víprasya mánuṣo havírbhir devā́m̐ áyajaḥ kavíbhiḥ kavíḥ sán evā́ hotaḥ satyatara tvám adyā́gne mandráyā juhvāā̀ yajasva

Just as you, Agni, a sage among sages, accepted offerings from wise Manu to the gods, so now, O most truthful Invoker, accept our offering today with your joyful ladle!
